On my search for a bottle of 1924 I ran across this bad boy.  They wanted 325, I passed on it and struck out on the 1924.

I looking forward to this one because a good malt is so hard to find. Looking for a special occasion.

The JD Special Release from a couple years back was phenomenal.

To add color:

four roses - skip (nothing worth a shit on tasting menu)

HH - do if only for the allocated bottle (you do bourbon or connoisseur depending on what you are after)

Barton - I would do as it’s a very cool setup and bar is great with lots of options to taste

BT - likely do, as historical and pick which one interests you most  all end in same tasting of their mainstream offerings

whiskey thief - kinda cool off the run experience with barrel tasting.  If you want unique, this is it

Preservation - skip

willett - do it right before your reservation at bar Willett

Jack Ruby steakhouse - highly recommend this stop in Lexington. And be sure to try their exclusive 16 year Boone county MGP pick if there is any left

Following up on this, it'll be about 20 guys in a bachelor party, the vast majority (say at least 15) aren't really bourbon drinkers, and are just there to have fun. We're going to do one day of a private tour bus, and they said for a 9 hour day they usually recommend three stops, although they'll do it however you want to

With those parameters, what would you do? It seems like some of this will be wasted on a bunch of guys who aren't bourbon snobs

Don’t need to be a bourbon snob to enjoy the history and ambience.

id hit Heaven Hill, Willett and Bardstown. Even non bourbon snobs will enjoy it. And they are all really educational.

Oh, and killer bars at each one that offer more than bourbon. Some great craft cocktails.

Bidding War for a Barrel of Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Bourbon Surpasses $3 Million in Auction to Support LA Fire Victims

Source: https://www.msn.com/

February 20, 2025

Last week, Sazerac made the groundbreaking announcement that it would be putting an entire barrel of the coveted Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old Bourbon up for auction in an effort to raise money for the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The bidding began last Tuesday at $10,000 and is open until 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday.

Already, as of Tuesday morning, the bidding had reached a ridiculous $3,105,000.

The auction page was listed as "down for maintenance" Tuesday afternoon and evening, so we were unable to confirm whether that bid has been beaten.

In any case, if you're hoping to win a barrel of Pappy 15, you'll have to pony up more than $3.1 million — good luck with that. That the bid has reached such a high number is an overwhelming positive. The money raised is set to benefit two non profits: World Central Kitchen and Another Round Another Rally, which provide food relief and funding, education and emergency assistance for bars and restaurants, respectively. (Extremely wealthy) bourbon fans interested in bidding can do so........

At the same link, they can donate to World Central Kitchen for a chance to win a complete set of the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection or donate to Another Round, Another Rally for a chance at a bottle of the incredibly rare Eagle Rare 25 Year Old.

Thanks for the response

Would you do a tour for the first stop (whichever you think has the best tour), and then just hang at the bars of the other two?

Tour HH. Hit bar for a drink. Then pick one of Bardstown or Bar Willett to finish. You won’t regret it

Is it your bachelor party? Pick your two or three favorite bourbons and go there. No one else will complain.

For mine we rented a bus and did Four Roses and Buffalo Trace. Don’t overthink it. Pick your preferred bourbon and go there.

No, I’m just the one guy in the group who drinks a lot of bourbon, so I’m tasked with organizing the distillery day

I guess my main question at this point is do we just done one tour, and then just go to the bar at the next two places?
