Blanton’s is always a good score. I’ve heard  horror stories from locals about waiting in line for 3 hours at Buffalo Trace and not getting a bottle.

I’d ask the family to pick up some cask strength Four Roses, and for them to pay a visit to the Heaven Hill Gift Shop.

I like ER more than Blantons, there I said it

Seconded.

I could see that. A store pick ER could very well be better than Blanton's. I've seen some rumors that Buffalo Trace has brought the age down on Blanton's to 6-8 years. Eagle Rare will hopefully be 10 years old from now until forever.

So people are collecting Blanton's based on the dump date to commemorate personal milestones?! I must not be a sentimental person because why in the hell does the dump date matter?

Keep in mind that I am a hetero male and a great aunt purchased me a Beanie Baby that shared my "birthday" when I was 13 years old. (I put it away when I would watch internet porn in my parents' basement). My point is - why does any of this shit matter?

Yeah, I don't get it either. The indirect effect is that dump date collectors contribute to the scarcity of Blanton's. Buying a bottle of Blanton's dumped on your son's birthday to share with him on his 21st Birthday is the most Hallmark Channel - bourbon BS I've ever heard of. Chances are he's going to be out getting drunk with his friends and he'll want very little to do with you. The notable exception being, please send more money.

That specific story line is so insane but I see it all the time.

Not only that, but what 21 year old wants to drink bourbon neat or on rocks?  You gonna let him mix Blanton's with coke?

this story really raises more questions than it answers.

Thoughts on the knob creek rye? I picked up a 115 proof store pick today; worth the $45?7ce06dc870f958e324615f9686305db2.jpg

I've had it and liked it but I also enjoy Rye. It packs a punch but that was probably me just drinking too much of it.

I want to support Texas whiskey, but what is so special about Garrison Brothers to justify the price? Balcones single malt is one of my favorite whiskeys and I gladly pay between $60 and $70 for it. I can’t imagine GB is better than Balcones, and certainly not for a 30% price increase.

They got themselves a cult following to convince themselves that the absurd price point is worth it.

It's their gimmick. Their barrel strength is pretty decent, but I wouldn't buy it again unless everything else was sold out.

Turned 40 today, so I need to break out the hitter lineup tonight. Will start with a bit of Rock Hill Farms, and then on to Sam Houston 14, Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend (with an Alec Bradley Tempus Nicaragua stick) and Bardstown Chateau de Laubade. Might have to end with a nightcap of Stagg Jr if I’m not completely hammered by then.

Enjoy those drams tonight, fellas.
