What’s next on the chopping block? 4 Roses SiB? The last victim was McKenna 10.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but you can still go fuck yourself just for writing these words. I should probably buy 10-20 bottles of 4 Roses SiB just in case this ever happens.

The rye is pretty good. Great value. It's a deep list.

Idk what to think about the rye. It’s definitely a good value for what it is, yet I’ve had a bottle forever and rarely drink it because it never sounds more enticing than other stuff I have in the cabinet.

The OF Rye doesn't really stand out. It is good, and it's cheap. I'm sure Zykan gets asked everyday when OF is going to come out with a barrel strength rye.

Elijah Criag Rye is better, but it's not a boat race by any means.

Thumbs up. Better than Rittenhouse. Not as good as Pikesville. Beats the the pants off of many $60-70 ryes.

I just opened the Elijah Craig Rye. I like it, especially at $28.

But's it's noticeably sweeter than most ryes. It feels like it's catered more to bourbon drinkers than rye fans.I agree that it's better than Rittenhouse but not as good as Pikesville. I'm guessing it's a similar 51% rye mashbill.

I stand by OF 100. 1910 has a bonfire note. 1920 has a medicinal note.

I really liked 1910 when it came out, but the novelty of it has worn thin on me.

Interesting opinion as I think the 1910 and 1920 are two of the better bottles out there that I can find consistently.  Never tried the 100 so guessing its swill based on some of the reviews here.

Marshmallow, not bonfire.  But nowhere near as marshmallow as Rare Perfection 15.

Could be nothing, but stopped at two smaller stores today that usually have plenty of OF 1920 in stock, and today had none. I'm sure TW/Specs has plenty though

Since I have about five bottles that are a week or two from getting killed, I bought some mid-range bottles that I either have neither had or haven’t had in awhile

OF 1920
Smooth Ambler Old Scout
Russel’s Reserve SiB Total Wine Pick
Still Austin The Musician

Old Fitz has two annual releases of varying ages. The last two spring releases have been younger, 9 years (2020) and 8 years (2021). The fall release is usually 15 years old. It might be easier for the store if you just told them Old Fitzgerald.

I'd also add the EHT Special Release, Blanton's Gold, Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, and Smoke Wagon Desert Jewel.

Good list, jealous if your guy gets these for you.

I want my avatar back.

No chance he'll get me Van Winkle or BATC, but figured it was worth asking for

Outside of the Buffalo Trace unicorns, what do you want really want?

Very respectable list. I mean hell, I have to hustle my ass off for one bottle of EHT Rye.

Might have one to spare. Interesting trades considered.

What’s the allure of Elmer? It’s essentially Blanton’s, no?

I’m not looking to pick a fight or suggest that it’s not a fine dram, but it’s also not particularly unique. It’s a crushable low proof bourbon, and I can’t figure out why something like that is so sought after.

It’s similar. I won’t rehash my entire take about why I don’t go out of my way to buy single barrel bourbons, but Blantons, Elmer and Rockhill are the exceptions.
I like Elmer better than most Blanton's.

God, it amazes me how elusive Elmer is here in MD... have not seen it ONCE in three years, and even most of the honey holes aren’t getting a single bottle.

Seen? Shit. I haven’t seen it in Austin. Ever.

I acquired it online. Actually just finished my bottle last night. It’s like Blantons. I like Rockhill the best out of the ETL, RHF, and Blantons

Elmer is anywhere from 4-6 years older than Blanton’s and about $20 cheaper. Same mashbill. When you catch a good barrel it’s amazing stuff. I always order when I see it on bar menus for less than $20.

I had never seen Elmer for sale until last November. I’m cracking that bottle next week.

I thought the general belief was that Elmer has gotten increasingly younger due to how high demand has gotten. I was reading a comparison to Blanton’s somewhere that said at this point both are 5-7 years old.

Full disclosure, the guy that takes care of our group pulled out an Elmer for us last week at a price of $55. We bought it, but there were more than a couple of guys openly asking if we’d be smarter selling it. We aren’t about to burn our supplier like that so we cracked it this weekend, but nobody was able to discern why it sells for 6x retail on the secondary.
