Interesting pricing on the Midwinter Night’s Dram.

Charged a Blanton’s to the company, $18. I tipped the bartender well though so she told me that the Hamilton (across the street) has 5x more and better bourbon selections.

I’ll post a report tomorrow.

Any suggestions for stores to try in the Philly area for unicorns?

I found Blanton’s 8 bottles deep on the shelf in Wilmington DE several weeks ago. Van’s Liquors, Concorde Pike. 20 mins from Philly airport.

Any Portland bourbon bars to hit?

(Google says The Whiskey Library and Green Room but I don’t like waiting)

Multnomah Whiskey Library is a Mecca for great juice (on par with Canon’s and Jack Rose).  It’s worth the effort.

That’s a strong endorsement to compare a place to those two.

I quite enjoyed The Old Gold in Overlook

The Devils Punch Bowl. If you are in the area. You have to check it out. Also swing by to see the Cullen's. They've been there forever, but a little cheesee.

So which countries can you buy Blanton’s gold and sftb from in the duty free shops? My sister is coming back from Australia next week and was wondering if she might be able to find any.

Can she bring me some Bundaberg? Thats the best thing she can bring back. Especially the higher end expressions.

Early reviews on Stag Jr 2018 release and Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 2?

I got suckered into the Owl at full MSRP. I only did it to have another bottle after I drank Batch 1. Yes I know the Stoli Purchase back story. And yes, I’m not happy about it either.

I should have said I ordered them and paid the ridiculous shipping.  although the shipping from London wasn't bad.  But from the Netherlands, it was more than the bottle cost.

I picked up two bottles of Stagg Jr at the only Spec’s in Houston that still put it on  the shelf. Taking my total to 3.

Picking one more bottle up tomorrow. I should be set with 4.

Am I crazy if I open one bottle, let it breath, and then let it sit for a week? It’s worked well in the past. Is there any science behind it?

The "science" is that evaporation will take place.  What's your expected result?

I would put the cork back on of course.

In my experience Stagg Jr opens up some when you let some air in the bottle.

You’re right. There’s not a darned thing we can do about it. If it’s not good, I’m sure another distillery will raise up and take the Owl’s place.

Need them to start making more Old Carter Rye.

Right, they need to increase the size of these releases and bring the price point down. Old Carter batch 1 only had 1,269 bottles, and batch 2 only had 1,289 bottles. There were 7,000+ bottles of Kentucky Owl batch 1 released.

For now, I think I would buy Old Carter at $200 way before I'm buying Kentucky Owl batch 2 at $200.

So after trying 8 different stores, a brotha had to go all the way to California for the Eagle. The shipping was $14. I know I spent that much in gas and wasted time. 9bed53549392dbd91d3d2c3129eb498f.jpg

Nice.  I picked up a bottle for $31.99 at the hood liquor store by my office on the way home today.  They charge more than retail on everything but typically have Blanton’s, W12 and other solid items for secondary or just under.  They also had ER handles for $89 which makes no sense to me.

It’s been bizarre passing on Eagle Rare the last 4-5x I’ve seen it on the shelf. Up until recently it was an auto-buy. Now I’ve got enough to last me for quite some time.

Still searching for that elusive RHF, though.

Anyone seen EH Taylor Barrel Proof anywhere? Any special honeyholes in Austin that might have it?

Found some in crested Butte last week. Nowhere to be found down here though.

I can't believe you bought 3 Stagg Jrs. You must be hoping they all grow up to be a big George Stagg one day.

Cask strength , 9 year old bourbon for $50 is pretty good value I’d say.

Does the new batch taste good?
