what does anyone know about fortuna and thomas moore bourbons.   seems like i remember hearing good things but both would be a first time purchase for me.  the plus side is i would probably open and drink both instead of collecting and letting it gather dust.

Tom Moore BiB is a top notch handle. I’ve steered clear of their finished bourbons.

Yeah, i think  this ones port-finished.  i'll probably pull the trigger on it just to try something new.  always good to have a bottle you can open without remorse.

Finally got a birthday bourbon. So that’s neat.

I hope you spent less than I did.  Now I can’t bring myself to drink it.

You could have done a lot worse for $29.99. I’ve got one somewhere, and while it’s not bad at all it just lacks depth in my opinion. Probably half full and I’ve had it for 3-4 years.

does the taste change over time after the bottle has been opened? i’ve never had a bottle longer than like two weeks lol. the only real good stuff that i had would be whatever hg has sent me in the past, so i tend not to hold on to any one bottle too long.

Pretty hotly debated topic. It does oxidize some. Sometimes it can help, sometimes it doesn’t, but I’m the same way. I usually open a bottle and kill it in a few weeks.

I don’t believe it changes much, if at all. I didn’t put the Legent back because I was trying to save it, but because it just didn’t appeal to me. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a “Holy shit this is cat piss” like the RR10, but it wasn’t remarkable either. Just meh. And for $29, you can do a hell of a lot worse. So even though I’m not a fan, I’d say you chose wisely.

My one bottle of Legent was a long time ago, and I'm pretty sure I paid more than you did.  I remember thinking that it was pretty good -- not great enough to keep me coming back for more but certainly not a drain pour.  And that was at a higher price than you paid, so I'd say you did well.

2023 Widow Jane Vaults 15YO -- anyone had it?  Worth $200?

I think there is one Jane people like.  And that's not it.

Lucked into another one of these polarizing bottles from a few years ago.
You either love it or it's the most disgusting shit ever.    I love it.
May be an image of drink and text

thats ancient.  must have had dust on it on the shelf.  cant believe it was still there.  that was one of my faves of the masters collection. the oat one was pretty good too.  theyve gone hill ever since they changed the bottle style.

not for that price.  i have seen and tried the baby jane and its pretty decent and at a way more reasonable price.

Things got kinda nuts at a whiskey tasting I hosted Saturday. All I was able to snap was the before picture before the rails came off. IMG_3594.thumb.jpeg.6ea8acef7760cc46c41422c29f607be8.jpeg

Yeah, before and after pix would have been interesting -- both as to the bottles and the participants.

I honestly think the 1946 Schenley had the most love from the group.

Very curious about that and the Vintage Rye… Everything there is difficult to attain, but those two are on another level.

Like anyone even could even know what that is...

I had a bottle of V17 back in the day before I knew anything.

I wonder.  Was it really good?

I think KBD sources ryes of that era were better. But the bourbons were still tasty. V17B is probably my least favorite of the bunch. But wouldn’t kick it out of bed if it was on my junk.

Not bourbon, but bourbon adjacent:

I’m not drinking Sunday-Thursday anymore, so I really don’t have a place for mixers. For example, the picture below is a Manhattan I made with Barrel Seagrass, and it’s over-the-top delicious.  A lot of people would only drink that whiskey neat or maybe with an ice cube, but I figure if you own good whiskey you should drink good whiskey.

This might be better than I remember it being. Things could get interesting in a blind with Old Fitz 8. As always, I wish I bought 2.

I’m about to buy an ETL

I’ve got dusties of RY10, ETL, and Rockhill Farms that have sat in my back shelf for close to a decade. One of these days I’ll get to them. I like them all, there was just a long period where I was very dialed in and wound up with more great whiskey than I needed.

Shit I just gave away a bottle of MWND Act 3 scene 1

First one I've been able to acquire in the wild in SA that was $100 and it wasn't even in the shelf. Chatted up the dude behind the counter and he mentions he has a Blantons in the back floor $100 even. The dozen or so stores around where I live are trying to get $170+ which is fucking obnoxious and I always passed. Nice to know one store I can start a report with for sought after shit.

Was the MWND Barton juice? If so, unwise.

The recipient was pretty happy. And shocked. I told him the two conditions were that he was forbidden to wait for a special occasion to open it, and to invite me  over when he does.
Life’s too short to hoard good things.
