I'm drinking the Oak Store Pick Barrel Bourbon, 14 years, 112.5 proof.

Pretty good. Smooth as all get out, but I'm making up a lot of tea notes in the finish. I don't like, and I don't drink tea. Unlike EJ, I'm a black coffee man.

Watching it down with a screening of The Big Lebowski.

You gonna sous vide those chops?

No better way to eat them. 45 min at 140 and then sear. I won't eat them any other way.

Though I agree, went the low/slow to sear/baste method tonight as the sous vide is in storage... seemed to turn out OK.

I’m sitting on three.

Yep, should have bought more in the fall. Best double oaked I've ever tasted., and much cheaper than comparable bottles.

Perhaps, maybe, Old Forester is positioning themselves as he every man's bourbon. What Weller once was, some years ago.

Since the mint is thriving and I wanted to try this 1792 Full Proof I figured I should get some julep practice in before the Derby in May.

How was it?

I’ve started bottles of the Single Barrel and the BiB. Liked the BiB. Still waiting to pop the Full Proof.

*Hot Take Alert* I don't really like E.H. Taylor Small Batch. I pass every time if it's not Single Barrel. Even then I have to think about it. i don't think the Single Barrel is priced very well. It's usually $60 at Spec's. It should be $45-50 bottle.

Barrel Proof and the Rye are worth every penny.

My current bottle of Barrel 14 Year, Oak Store Pick will probably be my last. It's fine, but for a 14 year, high proof, $85 bourbon it should be better.

Barrel Bourbon 14 is sourced from Dickel. Some people love it, some people find it off putting.

that store always seems to charge $10 more than the going rate at other stores.  not a gunthers fan.

That's funny you say that. I have bought several bottles of ER there, and always paid around $30 (have also bought the 1.75s for $65). Then last weekend I stopped by to pick one up, and was shocked to see the $40 when it rang up. I still bought it because it's still a good value for that price to me, but I was surprised.

Well here’s another one none of us will be able to find retail.

Yesterday was a good day!

I got an Old Rip Van Winkle 10 for $60.79 and Weller 12 750ml for $20.97.

Just know, I hate you to your core.

Kidding, that’s awesome

Have you hunted any Cincy? I'd imagine the selection is pretty decent due to proximity.

I just landed and have an early meeting...but ya, they are pulling bottles out like dollar bills at yellow rose.

Next up...

I used to love this, but now all I get is strong cinnamon.  I almost can't drink it anymore... almost.

My two favorite store picks from last year were both from TW. I'd take him up on it if I were you.

Yea, the TW and Goody Goody picks of the KCSiB were both outstanding.  Gonna be a sad day when I run out of both.

Fred Minnick is that you?

Probably not because I have no fucking idea who he is.  I like this stuff, though.  Wouldnt' have known about it without this thread.

Finally found OF Rye up here and it's a hell of a drinker for $25.  Might have to pick up a case before the price goes up.

Specs is selling for $20

Stock up

FIL asked me if I could find him some Blanton's, told him I haven't seen it around Houston for about 3 months. 🚫. Anyone have better luck, anywhere?

This may be sacrilege to some of you here, but I picked up a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel/Barrel Proof and it’s pretty damned good in my opinion.

The Heritage Barrel stuff is supposed to be excellent. They seem to be improving.

GG was bone dry today. The worst I’ve ever seen it. We might be in a spring drought gentlemen.

Try one of the Facebook secondary markets. The mark up isn't bad.

Thanks Bill, will give em look. On a side note, a colleague did run across two bottles that the proprietor of the store was extremely proud of...@ 249.99 each! 💰

Given the current climate, I’d say $70-75 is ok.
