Anyone ever done this? Trying to get my brother on Steam to play some old school v3.1 Total Annihilation.

Option #1 Start with WINE - this thread talks a little about running older stuff through Steam on a Mac (WINE is free)

https://www.reddit.com/r/wine_gaming/comments/f4j1im/how_do_i_play_windows_steam_games_on_mac/

Some info (maybe outdated, doesn't hurt to try)

Option #2. There are other options - CrossOver for Mac which is a commercial version of WINE, and is a little more updated.  It's got a decent price and a free trial, and it's got a nicer database - check the tips and forums for info

Option #3 Worst case scenario, but this is harder on the Mac resources, a full-blown virtualization solution such as VirtualBox

https://www.virtualbox.org (Free, there are paid versions - Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion)

Download Windows 10 (you don't have to put a license/key in right away, and can test it out)

If your brother has an M1 Mac, I've been running a few older games and apps through the beta of Parallels Desktop:

Also, you will need to get the beta preview/whatever (free for now) of Windows 10 on ARM, which I think is linked to in that link above, but if not:
