Her twitter is a beating.   Typical red accusations and no substance.   It's predictable and comical, but it's the norm now.

The GOP is now a flock of parrots, all bleating the latest message to denigrate anything that might constitute a change for the better and away from a system that favors wealth over justice.

Too many of them are investing in Generac systems for their homes.

My Trumpkin brother was whining about spending 8 grand on one and I told him to just donate the money to his local democrats, get them in office and let them just fix the system.  I mean what the fuck, are we going to be buying personal maintainers to grade our roads, since TxDot seems to lose more funding every year?  Drill our own water wells?  Put in outhouses or septic systems?

Already you look at these gomers wanting to carry guns because you can't count on the cops.

Just fund shit to work properly.  Shake my head.

Good point and comeback when someone is complaining how they have to spend their own money when the govt used to do a perfectly good job.

Republicans do think that people know how to spend their own money better than the govt. Start hitting that credit card.

A pretty fucking big chunk of the state was pretty blue back in February, and Abbott acting all cavalier about the grid right now is not going to help him at all.

If he doesn't lose the primary, he'll win by 10 pts.  And if he loses, his opponent will win by 10pts.

This guy gets it.  Beelzebub Puppykicker Childrapist, III (R) wins any race in Texas by 6-8 points min, even if his platform is "no electricity for anyone, turds floating in your drinking water, and you all food will be McDonalds," because owning tha libz.

The sooner y'all realize that actual politics, policy, and governance, have zero to do with GQP electoral success, the sooner we might have a chance to unseat them.

We'll be eating leaves from a makeshift bowl in the dark, unable to even leave town because all the bridges have collapsed, and a majority of Texans will still be saying "but I can't vote for anything but the (R), because socialism and libz!"

The winter storm caught a lot of people off guard, and scared the shit out of them.  When Memaw loses power and water and it's well below freezing, people get pretty fucking angsty.  Especially when it comes out that they didn't do shit after 2011, then Hot Wheels proclaims that everything is fine and fixed, and that the people bitching about ERCOT are the "neanderthals" as he put it, that bitched about masks, yeah that stuff doesn't go over very well.

The voter suppression stuff the GOP is trying to push through here in Texas is a pretty damned good sign that they are seeing unfavorable numbers in their internal polling, and that they are scared.

If the GOP wants to win handily across the state next year, they better be on their knees and praying to ERCOT that there are no serious problems this summer or this coming winter.

People will tolerate a lot of shit, but they won't tolerate what happened last February again, and they won't tolerate rolling blackouts becoming the norm, especially when Greg is encouraging power-intensive operations to move into the state.

Former mayor of Irving or something like that. Ran on super-Trumpy platform and was part of that mega-fundraiser that included Dan Crenshaw and others with the Top Gun ripoff ads. She's a twat.

People said the same thing about the horrible response to Covid. Then Dan Patrick said old people would prefer to sacrifice themselves for the economy and the Texas Republicans agreed. No one gives a shit about Meemaw or holding authorities accountable.

Polling had Texas as a tossup. What the polls missed and that surprised everyone was increased Hispanic turnout that broke heavily for trump. That’s not gonna happen in 2022.

I'd like to believe this but McAllen, TX just voted in a republican mayor.  Not sure when the last time that was.  Although, as someone from Pharr, I know firsthand that valley Hispanics are their own breed.

Trump also underperformed compared to the other Texas Republicans on the ballot. Why do you think that happened?

Because the state is still republican plus 3-4. It’s just not the blowout people here are claiming it is or even was in 2020. If the dems put up a strong candidate for governor, and that is a big if, it will be close and snowvid and Ercot hurts Abbott whether people want to believe it or not.

While that is interesting it’s my understanding those are non partisan elections.

The Texas Democratic Party and the national one need to pay more attention to the valley and Hispanics in Texas though. Currently they take them for granted and 2020 showed that was a big mistake with big consequences. Cannot be repeated in 2022 and 2024.

Que?  I honestly have never heard of that, non-partisan mayoral elections.  They don't fly trump or bernie flags during the campaign, but I'm pretty sure their political allegiances are well known by voters.

And I fully agree about Texas Dem Party needing to learn some hard lessons and adjust the messaging, but the democratic party in general has proven to be very, very bad at all aspects of politics.  I mean, despite all the treasonous shit trump did, he still would've won easily if it weren't for 450k Americans dying due to his incompetence and corruption.

Yes, we have to change the mindset that these groups, be they identified by race, religion, gender, or locality are monoliths.  However Covid hurt a lot.  The party was hampered by no in person canvassing.  The republicans thought Covid was bullshit, and they waded through it, right up to people's doorsteps.  The dems couldn't do that and not come off as hypocrites.  The lack of face to face on porches or in events is critical.

You are right.  It is usually the school districts and utility type districts that are non-partisan.  But you can usually find where a party has endorsed a candidate or not.  I will say I firmly feel that local races for everything from dog catcher to county judge should be non-partisan.  Let them win based on their merit and ideas, not the letter behind their name.  And make it ranked voting as well.

There's usually a party preference that's known, but D/R doesn't show up on a lot of mayoral election ballots.  That's why they are considered "non-partisan"

But then again - Villalobos versus Goodacre.  The name matters.

If these kinds of things didn't matter and it was going to be a cakewalk, the Republicans wouldn't be melting down in a quest to push through more restrictive voting laws.

And even if it's only a few points, this stuff will hurt down ballot in the closer races.   There will be more Williamson Counties flipping.

Yeah, Brad Gerdlinger probably isn’t gonna win the McAllen mayor election anytime soon unless he changes his name to Pablo Chicon.

Its like in Travis County if you’re a man and you want to win a dem primary you better have a first name like Ashley or Erin.

Good fucking lord. The hate for renewables continues. From the article:

In a letter sent to the commission on Tuesday, Abbott ordered the Public Utility Commission of Texas to take several immediate actions, including:

  • Streamline incentives within ERCOT to encourage development and maintenance of adequate and “reliable” sources of power like natural gas, coal and nuclear
  • Hold “unreliable” generators financially responsible for outages (wind and solar power are listed as “unreliable”)
  • PUC should instruct ERCOT to establish a maintenance schedule for natural gas, coal, nuclear and other non-renewable electricity generators to ensure adequate, constant supply
  • PUC should order ERCOT to accelerate the development of projects that help increase connectivity

Guest Lobo

We can do this in another thread, but I get some (just SOME) of the apprehension about wind.  But July in Texas, home of 14 sunlit hours of 100 degrees per day is not a great time to cast doubt on the giant fiery ball in the sky.  Bold strategy to blame shit on the Sun right now.

Also, where the fuck was this call to action in March?  I guess his $500k and some land from George P. has the whole border situation sewn up so we can get back to basics like water and light?

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong here, but didn’t wind and solar actually outperform anticipated production during the freeze, or at least relative to natural gas, coal, and nuclear? He’s just pandering to the anti-renewable energy crowd who thinks the grid failure was somehow due to GND policies.
