Read your policy.

You will find out.

Agents, for the most part, are stupid.

Call the 800 number, get a claim number, get a scope of loss and show the scope of loss to the contractor you would like to use.

You will find out.

You will find out.

my agent was in claims for 10+ years and insisted he wanted to file the claim for me

he said everything would be covered - and then hedged that the inspectors would determine what would be covered

have not heard from inspector yet

I called on pool equipment and it's supposed to be covered under other structures.  The insurance company had an agent call.  I sent her the estimate and pictures of the damage.  I haven't heard back in a couple of days, but assuming they pay out minus the deductible, they'll be covering about 40% of the damage.  That's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Always make sure you have your updated insurance card in your glove compartment.

Most policies (I think) require "reasonable efforts" to help frozen pipes only on unoccupied properties. So leave heat on, or turn off water.

But some policies mention reasonable efforts for freezing pipes, even for non vacant property. I'm a super interested what the heck that means re the age old drip vs cover argument. Or relatedly, is it unreasonable to have neither dripped nor covered.
