Actual journalistic entity if you'd like some info and not just tweets:

https://apnews.com/article/ap-top-news-john-kirby-iran-syria-iraq-c10b1fb0ed653e687bfbf57d04b591b5

Relevant portion from the article is that it's a retaliatory strike for an attack against our kurdish (former?) allies:

Biden administration officials condemned the Feb. 15 rocket attack near the city of Irbil in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish-run region, but as recently as this week officials indicated they had not determined for certain who carried it out. Officials have noted that in the past, Iranian-backed Shiite militia groups have been responsible for numerous rocket attacks that targeted U.S. personnel or facilities in Iraq.

Like fucking clockwork....right on time

I’m also anticipating with baited breath for analyses by The University of Google Assistant Professors who wax and wane in their Geopolitical Conflict classes.

yall want to discuss political topics, do it in the fucking political forum.

I thought it was newsworthy.

Unfortunately everything is seen through a more political lens now.

Maybe we should just eliminate the news and current events forum and have it all be in CR. Even the weather threads really. Would that make everyone happy?

if the daily texan posters could keep focused on the details of an event, rather than the politics of it, it could stay in daily texan.

All of this.
I, for one, would benefit and enjoy a grown folk discussion on the policy and the geopolitical movidas.
Alas, it seems almost impossible without someone trying to be clever by throwing infantile feces and sophomoric sound bites, in order to quench their insatiable thirst to play gotcha.

As someone who has been in the federal government relations space for decades, it’s a sad commentary on the current discourse (or lack thereof) within the country. We can be better than this, because we have been in the not so distant past.
It can start here, but there has to be the will to do so.

whatever.  its been this way since Ford/Reagan and you have just described the cloak room.  the left went apeshit when Trump bombed Syria.  now Harris does it and its a good way to show that we mean business. but the problem is the people saying "gotcha"/pointing out the hypocrisy?  the whole thing is ridiculous on its face.  the good news is the media will say good job Joe and it will be gone from the news cycle in about 4 days.  No one, not even our allies, cares about 7 500lb bombs dropped in Syria unless its the wrong person making the decision to drop them.

so much horseshit, so little time.  trump's sharyat missle strikes in 2017 were covered extremely positively by the media. despite your ipse dixit bullshit, the facts don't lie...

Syrian Airstrikes Rekindle Media’s Love Affair With US Violence

Corporate media reaction to Donald Trump’s April 6 missile strike on a Syrian airfield might be summed up in an ironic tweet from FAIR analyst Adam Johnson: “Find someone who looks at you the way US media look at bombs.”

Daily papers lined up to endorse Trump’s action, as a study by Johnson found (FAIR.org, 4/11/17). As of April 11, out of the top 100 US newspapers, 47 had run editorials: 39 in favor, seven ambiguous and only one opposed to the military attack. Sample headlines: “Syria Strike Shows US Resolve,” “Striking Syria Long Overdue” and “Serious on Syria: The Attack Was a Message to Russia and China Too.”

The public at the time was much more divided; an ABC/Washington Post poll (4/7-9/17) found 51 percent supporting the airstrikes and 40 percent opposed.

Immediately after the attack, as Americans were just forming their opinions, corporate media opinion was already established. Johnson (4/7/17) looked at five top dailies—the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and New York Daily News—and found none offering any opinion space to anyone who argued the airstrikes shouldn’t have happened. The five papers ran a total of 18 op-eds, columns or “news analysis” articles that either praised the strikes or criticized them for not being harsh enough. The Times (4/7/17) ran a piece headed, “On Syria Attack, Trump’s Heart Came First.” The Washington Post (4/7/17) called it “Trump’s Chance to Step Into the Global Leadership Vacuum.”

On television, we had MSNBC‘s Brian Williams (4/7/17) opining weirdly about the “beautiful pictures of fearsome armaments.” And CNN‘s Fareed Zakaria (4/7/17) embodying what FAIR’s Jim Naureckas (4/7/17) called the “essential pundit take,” that Donald Trump “became president of the United States” by launching Tomahawk missiles at a sovereign state.

The Washington Post was among the many who referred to the idea that with the airstrike, Trump was “righting Obama’s wrongs” in Syria, picking up on what writer Reed Richardson (FAIR.org, 4/7/17) called the dangerous “Obama did nothing” narrative. When folks like CNN anchor Jake Tapper (Twitter, 4/4/17) ask, “What will it take for the world to intervene in Syria?” they’re standing on its head a reality in which the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and Russia, among others, have been intervening in Syria for years.

https://fair.org/home/out-of-46-major-editorials-on-trumps-syria-strikes-only-one-opposed/

Quote

In other words, 83 percent of editorials on the Syria attack supported Trump’s bombing, 15 percent took an ambivalent position and 2 percent said the attack shouldn’t have happened. Polls showed the US public being much more split: Gallup (4/7–8/17) and ABC/Washington Post (4/7–9/17) each had 51 percent supporting the airstrikes and 40 percent opposed, while CBS (4/7–9/17) found 57 percent in favor and 36 percent opposed.

A list of the editorials with quotes showing support or opposition can be seen here. The list of the top 100 editorial boards in the country was taken from a 2016 Hill piece (10/5/16) on presidential election endorsements.

Eight out of the top ten newspapers by circulation backed the airstrikes; the Wall Street Journal (4/7/17), New York Times (4/7/17), USA Today (4/7/17), New York Daily News (4/8/17), Washington Post (4/7/17), New York Post (4/10/17), Chicago Sun-Times (4/7/17) and Denver Post (4/7/17) all supported the strikes with varying degrees of qualification and concern.

GMAFB.  You and your ilk would be masturbating furiously if this was Trump blowing up some more brown people, so don't act like you give a shit about this.  It's all about keeping score and trying to pwn the libs - no discussion of the actual implications or reasons for the military action.  Just post a few tweets, play the victim card/bitch about the MSM, make a few "funny" jokes about Harris being the actual POTUS, and let the good times roll.  Amirite?

I haven't read up on this bombing yet, but I don't support this type of action no matter who the president is.  It's an example of executive power run amok and is yet another area where the legislative branch should reassert its authority.

GMAFB.  welcome to the last 4 years bitch.  Biden is a fucking buffoon who can't string sentences together. now Harris, she is actually coherent.

We do agree that no one cares about hitting Syria with a few little bombs

OK since you obviously need it spelled out, they pretend to care that it is awful when the wrong person is making the decision.  this admin making the decision means "all good, right move".

Its OK though.  Joe FINALLY visited Texas.  What took him so long?  does he not care?

This was demonstrated to be factually wrong in post 70, dipshit. The one you conspicuously ignored.

Biden's already spoken more intelligent statements (as potus) than dotard did in 4 years, tweets included.

Start at the 3:13 mark.  Biden is fine as long as he sticks to the teleprompter.  When he goes off script or looks away, he has a little trouble.  Trump was an idiot no doubt and said a lot if really stupid things, but don't act like Biden is some sort of brilliant mind.  It's ok.  He's ordered a hundred billion doses of the vaccine, a hundred million of both Pfizer  and Moderna, and that will be able to vaccinate 300 Americans sometime this summer.

I see we're back to selecting a few moments out of hundreds of hours of tape to make him look like he's totally lost it.

No one is saying Biden is some sort of brilliant mind at his age, but he's much more coherent and mentally capable than the orange idiot. That is clear as day.

Speaking of fitness, he can also ride a bicycle, run, walk down stairs normally, stand without leaning forward, and drive a car.

There's something missing....something about somebody in the White House on twitter acting like he's an angry 12 year-old in Fortnite.

Instead, today we have Biden just wanting to talk about covid vaccines and how they are safe to use, and how we are ramping the numbers up.

hundreds of hours?  he hasn't been out of the basement for 100's of hours.  we can call a "lid" on this thread.

and holy shit on him being coherent.  we are not "back to".  Its an ongoing theme. hell they want to take away the codes from him.

well sure Trump had stupid tweets(which made him his own worst enemy sometimes) but its going to be a whole lot easier for Ol' Joe while the media fellates him and never asks him any tough questions for 4 years.  Its also easier when he lets Harris do all the diplomacy.  He won't have to defend anything he does, ever.  sure there will be some faux outrage when the $2T package becomes $1.5T because some sweetheart deal for bailouts got cut but it will blow over quickly.

There is also no completely false allegation that he is colluding with China from the jump.  Joe B is on easy street if he can make it.  The economy is the only thing that can possibly hurt him but that will be explained away as not his fault.

Wait....there’s no allegation that he’s colluding with China...other than the repeated allegation by trump and all his surrogates that Biden is in league with China?

You aren’t even trying.

I am not in favor of any bombing. I do not care what president does it. It would be nice at some point though if human beings would get together and attempt to understand one another instead of the response being one that involves our military.

The show of force auto-reaction has not stopped people from hating us. It has never been a tactic that wins anyone to your side. History is pretty clear about that. We can either evolve as a country, and really a species as a whole, or we can keep on doing this. The onus is on us to find a better way to resolve differences.

And for the Daily Texan group that has isolated yourself because you do not want to engage in political discussion with, it’s time to be an adult. I realize this thread was moved here from that forum. Seeing all the reactions to Paski’s tweet lets me know politics is nothing more than a game to you. She should have to explain how she reconciles that tweet with what the president just did. I would have respect for her if she gave an honest answer if she was asked.

that's rich on the acting like an adult comment after 4 years of "3 year olds in a grocery store" temper tantrums

narrator: she won't(with an honest answer)

This is quite rich coming from a poster who has systematically negged probably hundreds of my posts, 20-30 at a time, like a child.
