I think the thing that sucks about this the most, is that a lot of us who had doubts that this commitment would last up to signing day were getting pulled in by how actively he's been pushing for UT/the multiple visits etc... I think we might end up with him signing on anyway, but it'd be cool to have that class builder for the whole ride.

I think those are going to become more and more rare

I never even click in the 23 thread or even know who most of the important prospects are for this reason. Especially in this environment with essentially a year of no in person recruiting. When a good portion of your 22 commits have to be actively recruited still the likelihood of a blue chip 23 prospect staying committed seems unlikely.

The truth is that you can only sell promise for so long.  I listened to the recent blitz episode where they analyzed 27 power 5 programs and Texas was dead fucking last when it came to developing blue chip prospects.  Rod Babers is right that schools are easily negative recruiting us simply by showing them the data and our results.  It's hard to argue with 10 years of data.  Garrett Wilson said, talented WRs come here only to disappear and never be heard of.  He's not wrong.

In addition, the leadership within our program got lazy and let this entire thing slide.  We were more focused on what fucking taco bell commercial to put on the jumbotron that keeping our program elite.  Give aggy as much shit as you want.  They managed to position themselves in the best conference, pulled a national championship winning coach to that shit hole, upgraded all their facilities even if it's made them broke, and figured out a way to compete with the Bamas, UGAs, and LSUs when it comes to buying recruits.  Meanwhile, we let our facilities slide, stayed in a pathetic conference, hired 3rd rate coaches like Charlie Strong, and have a inflated image of our program thinking that elite recruits will come here regardless of results because we are Texas.

Recruits would love to come here.  We simply have to win.  My hope is that Sark and his staff can accomplish that.  Until we start putting players in the 1st round and competing for the national championship, we are going to see more of the same.  The other option is that we start buying recruits like aggy but I've lost hope in that as well.  I don't think NIL is going to have the effect people think it will at the moment.

On the bright side, it takes 1 coach to figure it out.  Look at Texas basketball.  We might be the hottest program in the country right now.  I never imagined seeing us recruit the way we are.  If Sark can figure it out, recruits will line up to play here again.

It's a good thing you're not letting the ebbs and flows of recruiting get you down or anything like that.

Reportedly Owens dad and Cooper Manning spent time together. The Manning’s have been through big recruitments and maybe they gave Rueben and Mr Owens some things to consider that they have never thought of before and they decided to take a step back. Or it could be that El Campo is a red ass aggy town and they hear negative stuff about Texas everyday and decided to take a step back. If he was class of ‘22 I’d write him off because kids seldom come back. But we have a lot of time. If we win games and Bijan goes off this year like we think and he truly liked Texas, I have full faith in him coming back in the fold.

That was one of the reasons I was really surprised when he did commit to the good guys. I had already written him off for aggy a long time ago.

I grew up about 30 miles from there and it was really aggy territory.  I was shocked too when he signed.

When your mascot is The Rice Birds,  that's a clue it's an agricultural area.

We may not have brakes but our transmission is stuck in park.

So get a couple huge commits and it's business as usual but lose one verbal guy from 2023 and everything's going in the wrong direction?

he was the pied piper for the 2023 class. he was pushing both Manning and Cook to Texas. odd that coming off a reportedly awesome weekend for those 3, a few days later, he decommits. yes it is a lot disconcerting.

there's many miles to go in this recruitment. anything can happen but to spin this as anything other than a big disappointed is not understanding what this might mean.

I mean I think Mitch hit it on the head. This was always going to be a nervy recruitment simply due to geography. But it is 2023 and we can't be sure how much his decision will or won't affect Arch and Cook. I'm not sure that is necessarily a 3 recruit package.

Not saying this is good news - but we have a season to play and the 2022 class to close on before we really get down to brass tax on 2023.

Arch Manning, of the New Orleans Mannings, is not going to allow his recruitment to be influenced by the whims of Reuben Owens and anyone that says otherwise should be power-pegged.

At first glance I read it that way...FIFY.

Correct... but it's pretty obvious to me that Reuben Owens, of the Wharton County Owens clan, caught wind that Arch Manning is no longer considering Texas after a pelican arrived carrying word that Quinncy Ewers of house Southlake is about to march his glorious mullet back on down to Austin to claim the Whiskey Barrel Throne.

Man, had him on campus twice last week and then he decommits right after? Not a good sign.

Also this is why we should ignore everything recruits say. He just spent the last week telling all the 9.95ers how solid he is, retweeting/liking stuff about Texas, etc. Classic.

So, he came to town and didn't get any pussy....ok.

Didn’t OKST have a program where okst coeds would act as escorts with recruits? I can’t find any info on it now because They scrapped that program once the NCAA started getting suspicious. Pussy >>> bagmen

I don't think Okie Lite has the market cornered on that practice. Zeta (sorority) at SMU got kicked off campus for whoring to football players in the 80s. I'd imagine plenty more examples exist.

Almost every school in the country had a group of hostesses like that but the Vandy rape and Colorado strippers scandals pretty much put a nail in the coffin as an official practice.

The majority of Wharton and Matagorda (24 4A) county are brainwashed Ags. I grew up around that shit my entire childhood even though our QB Richard Walton and Beau Trahan were Horns at that time. Imagine teammates of his who wouldn't even start at a D3 school are in his ear.

I recall Aker's Angels from my early days at UT. They were very hot, and always in attendance at recruiting functions. I do not know if they were offering spiritual guidance, or otherwise. But they were world class, no doubt.
