Venable has got the Cracker Barrel demographic locked down:

In my 20's, I was visiting my parents with my daughter. We woke up on Saturday morning and they wanted to go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. This was in east Texas. I thought I was ready for it, but, I wasn't. Never again. When I drive by them on the road somewhere I always just assume it's grandmas, hillbillies, okies, and aggies eating there. In the event of a nuclear holocaust, if only Cracker Barrels were left standing, I'll see you guys on the other side.

It smells like diabetes in every one I’ve ever stepped in.

Last year cousins from California were visiting my parents who still live in small town Oklahoma. The cousins wanted the Oklahoma experience so my parents, who never go to Cracker Barrel, took them to one off I-40. Everyone got Covid.

So yeah, diabetes and Covid.

I still live in small town Oklahoma and thank god there is no Cracker Barrel.

Bomar was just a trailblazer a bit ahead of his time. That funny gif with cash exploding out of a sack could be made of all players now- rightfully.

Looks like Hooters is projecting a start 5-6.

My MIL is a truly terrible person.  All sorts of things wrong with her that are too much to list and explain, and my wife would feel betrayed if she knew I was opening up and telling stories about her.  I think she would be ok with me mentioning this- Cracker Barrel is her favorite restaurant.

If the Bears started literally anybody else behind center, they win that Super Bowl versus the Colts. There's a reason he was called Gross Rexman.

***Cool Cracker Barrel Story Alert***

One year around the holidays, the wife (no pics) and I were with her family at a Cracker Barrel in Arkansas.  Her family includes her high functioning autistic nephew who was prolly 16 at the time.  At one point, he screams out "Mike Pence is a closet transexual!!!"  Stunned silence from the camo wearing, diabetes infected locals.  I look around and give an apologetic nod until I see the one black family give me a smiling nod.

About a year later, CB tried to recruit said wife to the corporate office.  They were interested in rebranding the chain to appeal to millennials.  She told them them to burn the place down and change the name.  They didn't like that.  I see now they're having trouble because their business model centers on selling a pornographic amount of food to olds for $10.  So sad.  They are selling beer now, which is an awful idea.

Evans seems to be back on board this afternoon.  Should know for sure in 45 mins or so.

Obviously the recruits still have to put pen to paper... but it appears that Oklahoma's new staff is an upgrade on the recruiting trail.

Very impressive first class for sure. Holding together the core of the last class was also huge. Hard to find complaints at this point. Especially if they can flip Bowen.

Going back 10 years, OU's never had more than 5 top-100 players in a class (247 composite). In OU got only 2 top-100 players 5 times and only 1 in 2016. I use top-100 as a metric instead of stars because star rankings appear to be inflating over the last 3-4 years.

So far, OU has 7 top-100 players committed this year. They're projected to add an 8th tonight (Vickers) and have a shot to add more (Bowen?, Renaud?, Akana?, Hicks?). They've won high profile recruitments that they'd never be a part of in the past (eg, LeBlanc and Carter out of FL) and taken lower ranked players who have gained acclaim over the summer (eg, Adebawore, Spencer).

Part of this is Venables connections in the SE and his earned reputation as a defensive coach, and part of it will be OU's expanded recruiting infrastructure. I'm still puzzled as to how they're doing this with limited NIL.

My only complaints at this point are CB and RB recruiting, two positions where recruiting rankings translate well. It seems like OU's in on a bunch of high profile safeties (Vickers, Bowen, Yaites and McCarty will be a safety too). Wagoner is their only true CB projection. Apparently Vickers is going to tried at CB first, but Bama wanted him at safety, not CB and he's highly regarded as a safety, not CB.

There's no reason OU shouldn't be getting top RB annually. Murray, outside of last year, continues to underwhelm.

Two of the top 10 RB’s last year. Didn’t expect fireworks this year. Also in great shape for ‘24 Gage.

If things hold, this is the best class OU has recruited since the internet began. They have to come out and prove the concept this season, though.

M. Vickers is in.

That 284 number is the number I'm talking about as being inflated. Don't use it as the recruiting services are giving out more 4 and 5 stars. That said, as indicated above, OU's not had more than 5 top-100 guys in a class from 2013 to now. So far, they have EIGHT with a good shot at Renaud and some chance with a couple of others.

I'm also impressed with the lower ranked recruits they're bringing in. Even the guy from Nebraska who's ranked in the 800s has ridiculous testing numbers.

They could be hard selling a quick move to the SEC.  I've read in a couple places their recruits are hearing 2023.

But why wouldn't recruits just go to a school that's already in the SEC if that were the draw?

this is where sucking for years on end comes back to bite Texas. The kid never had a genuine interest in Texas at all. And while I used to cheer for someone like him to go to A&M instead, it doesn’t really matter to me anymore since both OU and Aggy are likely to be in our annual schedule soon.

Don’t get me wrong, I would have  LOVED for this kid to be interested in the good guys, it doesn’t seem like he is the bestest of fits for our shit defense. Looks like a future DT to me.

Here’s to hoping he’s another Katy area bust.
