That's awesome how many more national titles did Baker win than Tebow?

Oh he brought them within an eyelash of getting to the national championship game. Wow amazing!

espn going to espn...if tebow's name wasn't so cold right now, he would have been number 1

They are still mad VY toasted the "greatest cfb team of all-time".

Halfway through it was a disappointment? Huh. I don't remember that. Well I guess whatever rationalization they need to use.

Besides Mayfield did nothing tons of other QBs have done at OU. He put up big numbers, won conference titles, and failed to win the national championship.

I hate Mayfield.  But, if peered through an objective lens, his story would make a pretty good disney movie.

From walk-on to Heisman winner and first pick of the draft.  Those are the ingredients for a feel good movie.

With that said, Fuck Baker Mayfield and Fuck OU.

Not putting Vince #1 isn't especially heinous. I mean, I'd probably disagree, but I could hear an argument.

Putting Baker #1 is silly. Anyone at #1 or, like someone said upthread, in the top 5, really, should have a national title. I would think Vince's competition would boil down to Deshaun, Cam, Burrow, Jameis maybe.

Just saw they have Jameis at #16. That's bad, too. Dude was fucking incredible until that loss in 2014 in the semis.

That network died when it started putting people like Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless on the air.  The whole thing is run by pot-stirring idiots now.  Everybody's got to have "a take," even if it's blatantly stupid.

I keep waiting for a smart, funny sports network to fill the void.  They won't be able to compete for the live games deals, but they should at least be able to replace the shitshows that SportsCenter and College Gameday have become.

I’m biased but I’ll die on the hill that Vince Young is the most disrespected college football player of all time. Vince never got the ridiculous fever-pitch publicity Tebow or Newton got.  The fact that Bush won the Heisman in a landslide still annoys me. If Vince didn’t win that natty in 2005 he’d be in the 20s on this list.

I honestly dont think he leaves after the junior year if Texas didnt win that game and he didnt have that once in a lifetime game.

His hype wouldnt have been through the roof, and since Houston had the first pick that year, and VY wanted to play for them, without the hype, he stood no chance on getting drafted #1.... so he would have just been a "top 10 college QB" that year and told to go work on his throwing skills another year.  which I think he would have listened and done- especially since there was so much pressure to not be the first underclassman to leave Texas early under Mack.

if we had lost that game, VY is pissed, and furious at not winning the heisman and barring a Dak-like injury, he would have murdered 2006.... we almost did it with Colt until he got hurt and we didnt have a backup.

then his 3 year numbers looks almost ridic,   he ends  up his last 3 years with 2 total losses, 2 conf champs and a 2006 season natty instead of a 2005 season one, and those numbers make him the clear #1 in this idiotic poll.

The part that kills me is that they marketed the MNC game against USC as "Vince Young the One Man Highlight Reel against The Greatest College Dynasty of All Time About to 3-Pete Sorry LSU You Didn't Really Finish #1."

Okay, that was horseshit, but if that's what you're gonna sell, and then VY wins that game with 467 total yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 turnovers, don't you have to anoint him as the greatest player of all time, just to be consistent?

Also, if VY had played for an SEC school, the entire Gameday crew would've died in a simultaneous orgasm.

hilarious take from The Worldwide Leader. I'd post the link, but ESPN's mobile app has made that impossible for me, so i'll just share what all else i remember:

•Johnny Hitler was 13

•Colt was 12

•Tebow was 5

•Cam Newton was 2

Cam at 2, and above Tebow is fine. Colt 12 is fine’ish.

But Bako #1 wtf is this nonsense ?

They overhyped the USC so badly, by the time the game started even I wanted to UT to mudhole their ass.

VY not only crushed their souls on the US C sideline, but blasted all the talking heads and bullshitters that we all had to endure for the weeks leading up to the game.  I know he had some very famous words of the huddle among his teammates, but publicly he never had to say a word.

You must have missed his first Rose Bowl. As amazing as he was against USC, it was basically VY doing VY things.

Holy shit. You ranked a dude who couldn't win anything but a conference title over a guy who won two Rose Bowls back to back with a title? Must be retards doing this list.

It's ESPN. If they actually ranked them true to form, there wouldn't be nothing to talk about. But they release bullshit just to get the talk going and get their article spread all over. Baker was good in college. Really good. But he was a regular season QB. You can't be the #1 or even close if you didn't perform when it mattered. VY single handedly ended a dynasty. I know other QBs have came after him and put up better stats in the big game. But sports isn't all about stats. The influence he had in that game and just how god like he was will never be matched. What Burrow did last year against Clemson doesn't even come close. Maybe I am being biased but fuck it.

Didn't Baker lose to a Charlie Strong-coached team? I mean, holy shit. That alone should disqualify him from #1.

If Vince had played another year, there is no fucking doubt in my mind he wins the Heisman and Texas wins back-to-back titles. And I'd still rank him #1 even with only 3 seasons. Goddamnit.

ESPN does this every offseason as a cheap way to generate outrage clicks. A take this bad is on purpose. Every fanbase where Baker is undeservedly ahead of their fan favorite has a shitload of fans that will click on this article.
