Good news for all the self-identified “Cuomosexuals” of social media: Andrew Cuomo hears you, and he’s a fan.

Appearing on an upcoming episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Andrew Cuomo embraced the new term adopted by DeGeneres and fellow TV hosts Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert to express love and admiration for the New York governorand his brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

(The internet is smitten too, and there’s even an Urban Dictionary entry for “Cuomosexual” and clothing emblazoned with the word.)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2020-04-28/andrew-cuomo-sexual-ellen-degeneres-youtube%3f_amp=true

A) I have cramps. So feeling bitchy right now.
B) I was referring to the lovefest for Cuomo in multiple articles and on television. Not individual surly posters. I don’t recall the lovefest here. I am talking about celebrities, talk show hosts, the mainstream national media and so on. And yes, I think it is entertaining to watch them all walk back their love for him now. Some have referred to it directly. Trevor Noah did a piece on his former Cuomo love the other night and it was hilarious. Said he was now embarrassed.

Not referring to posters. Referring to people in the media and those in celebrity in somewhat influential positions. I am enjoying watching them squirm. Which makes me an asshole I guess? But I have cramps and IDGAF! 😃😃😃

Excuse me, ma’m, can you answer the fucking question?  No?  I think not.  You all need to shut the fuck up. And lay back and enjoy it. Because it’s coming.

Who are your representatives and senators?  Do they support Cuomo ?  How does this affect you other than your palsy discomfit when Fox News says jump?

I'm sorry, it's a thread on Surly and people have been discussing it.  Cuomo was made center news on a daily basis by most news outlets and the typical ones were making him  out to be a water walker while it suited their needs.

so if you don't like the topic you're free to not post, but don't try and tell me or anyone else for that matter, what Antone should or shouldn't discuss or have interest in.

You're not the boss of me....

See how that works  ?

That’s cool, I just don’t understand the concerted effort against Cuomo and Newsom.  They aren’t the party. At least not where I sit.

I am not really paying attention to Newsom though I understand he is fighting for his political life. I found Cuomo to be creepy. So the lovefest for him for many months last year in light of what’s coming out about him (though one could say his past with women is interesting long before these allegations) was disturbing. It does matter as NY and CA are very valuable to the political landscape.

I don’t know why this particular story interests me. Perhaps because I have way too many people in my family weighing in 24/7 with their political opinions on Texas and the former and current President. I’m just over it. Lol. It’s a constant stream of opinions with my family. They have scarred me for life.

Answer what? I can’t comment on Cuomo because I don’t live in NY. I have to only comment on Texas? Lay back and enjoy what? Don’t support Trump and don’t support the current governor of Texas. I can call out anyone I want. Cuomo brought this on himself. If no one is in his corner that’s his fault. Fuck him.

All the alien stuff interests me also. But we don’t have a real kickass UFO thread which makes me sad.

I'm not both siding, but this is how I feel about Cruz being slammed for Cancun and not his part in inciting insurrection.

I recall hearing murmurings about Cuomo's mishandling of Covid even back when he was a media darling and the toast of the non-Trumpist nation. I do get the feeling that national TV news thinks we can only handle one story at a time. They think that our minds will explode if we hear a person can do good and bad at the same time. Sad thing is that they're probably right about a lot of American: two speeds, hate and love.

Cuomo was a good PR foil to Trump's insane lying and disregard, but I was always reserved in praise for him because New Yorkers seemed to have real doubts about him. It looks like he's far worse than I would have guessed. This sexual harrassment must stop.

Maybe we ought to abandon name-brand recognition in politics. For awhile there, it looked like every national election was going to have a Bush or Clinton. Cuomos, Cheneys, Kennedys, or McCains shouldn't be given the benefit of divine right. We're supposed to hate that stuff.

So the same people who thought it was fine that trump deferred on invoking the DPA because Covid was primarily hitting blue states including NY at the time, are suddenly concerned about New Yorkers dying from Covid?  Or who voted for a man accused of 20 plus sexual assaults are worried about sexual harassment? Given that y'all clearly don't actually give a flying fuck about either liberals dying from Covid or women who are sexually harassed or assaulted, why should anyone want to listen to your rantings about Cuomo?

And to be clear, I think Cuomo did a shit job, and that he should resign.  But the GOP has lost absolutely all of its moral authority and the people who are fine with lying about Jewish space lasers, immigrants being the cause of spread of Covid, and that the unenacted Green New Deal caused Texas to lose power need to shut the fuck up.

Notice how no Democrats are screaming, “Fake news by the failing New York Times!”

Of course no Republicans are either. They only do that when it’s news they don’t like. Cuomo is getting roasted by the so-called “liberal media” and rightly so, in a way no Republican ever would be by the right-wing propaganda machine. You’d have to be blind not to see that.

Trump is your crutch. Much easier than admitting your policies and platforms are not supported by the majority of Americans. They must be Trumpkins if they disagree. Not much room for nuance eh?

Yeah, the party that has the widely popular policies is the one who has openly admitted they're suppressing voters because if more people vote they lose!

Yeah, he needs to resign yesterday and get whatever legal/criminal ramifications he has coming.  Question is if and when that happens, what non-GOP boogeyman is Fox going to focus on next?

*polls and statistics can be biased, so grain of salt and all of that

Green New Deal 58% support https://www.dataforprogress.org/the-green-new-deal-is-popular

"In a nationwide public opinion poll by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) this past summer, more than 3 in 4 Americans had heard little or nothing about the Green New Deal. While overall opinion was split, opposition rose among those most familiar with the plan.

Of those who said they had heard at least “a good amount” about the Green New Deal, nearly 6 in 10 opposed it. Among all adults, 20 percent supported it, while 20 percent were opposed and the rest said they did not know enough to have an opinion."

-everyone wants to fight pollution, save Mother Earth.  Sounds good.  The devil is in the details, which would most likely not reach the general support of "58%" cited above.  It's a catchy slogan, but the implementation is lacking.  No air planes, no beef, retrofit every existing building etc etc, all on their own don't garner 58% support.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2019/11/27/americans-like-green-new-deals-goals-they-reject-paying-trillions-reach-them/

-Dreamers - completely agree, no fault of their own, only country they have ever know.

Now do illegal immigration.  The majority of Americans all agree immigration is a positive for our country, and separate from illegal immigration.

https://www.fairus.org/issue/public-opinion-polls-immigration

  • 59% of likely voters believe that the “policies and practices of the federal government encourage illegal immigration.” Only 23% disagree (Rasmussen, September 2011).
  • 72% of likely voters believe parents should be required to prove they are legal residents when registering their child for public school; only 21% oppose such a requirement. Only 32% believe that children of illegal aliens should be allowed to attend public school in the U.S., opposed to 53% who disagree (Rasmussen, August 2011).
  • 81% of likely voters oppose granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens in their state, with 12% supporting tuition breaks for illegal aliens (Rasmussen, August 2011).
  • 66% of likely voters say that gaining control of the border is more important than amnesty for illegal aliens. Only 27% believe amnesty is more important (Rasmussen, July 2011).
  • 43% of Americans believe that immigration to the U.S. should be decreased, 35% believe that it should be remain at its present level, while only 18% believe that it should be increased (Gallup, June 2011).

https://news.gallup.com/poll/1660/immigration.aspx - gallop poll show much of the same

Medicare for all, this we agree on, how best to do it????  But this is a non-starter for many if we can't control illegal immigration.  Would not be sustainable.

Mask Mandate, agree from me

As for Covid relief, not shocked to see overwhelming support to receive a check from the government (as were the relief bills under Trump).  Lets take that same survey and remove the direct payments to citizens and let us see if they still agree.  Do you think 9% of the bill actually going to covid related issues vs 91% going overseas/pork/bailouts would be popular?  Or the raise for congress they put in the bill?......Personal self interest, no shit.

Raising the min wage - again, self interest, people support giving themselves a raise.  Attach it to the local cost of living and it makes sense, but setting the same wages for someone in San Francisco vs rural Kansas is just dumb.

Polls certainly should be taken with salt. But actual votes, you know like the votes that installed by popular vote a majority of Democrats into the House, (by sheer vote total across the country) Democratic senators received a large majority of votes over their counterparts, and elected by the larges number of votes ever a Democratic president with that platform you claim isn’t supported by the majority probably are pretty good indicators of what the majority prefers.

States such as New York have already reversed their similar policies, and lawmakers want to know why Michigan hasn’t done so.
