You mean, again?

Compared to Charley Strong and Steve Sarkasian so far, he was pretty good.

(note-I am only talking relative to our other post Mack coaches)

Mack was great at the attracting and keeping talent part, not so much the talented assistants (see: GD, Bull Reese, Mad Dog, Old Freak Nasty)

For all the complaints about Greg Davis, he had the highest scoring offenses we ever had and the 4 best QBs on the 40 acres since James Street and Bobby Layne.

And we had some really good defensive coaches.  They were so good they got head coaching jobs.  Chizek, Muschamp, Robinson.

Dude still led us to the best season in 12 years and was a good coach, better than Sark for sure. His downfall was his arrogance and the quality of coaches he surrounded himself with. If he had a legit top D1 staff and smoothed out some of his rough edges a bit he would still be here.

Sark will have more success even though he isn't nearly as good of a coach because of his ability to get and retain better talent than Tom. Tom was also too damn conservative in the true sense of the word not the bullshit current political sense. And yes the username sort of checks out

Tom Herman did what he always does, catch lightening in a bottle with another coach's players. Same thing he did at Houston. However, sustainability is also part of the job. Just like at UH he proved he cannot sustain success. He came right back with a 7-5 season. His recruits were all leaving, and his long term vision was FUBAR. We will see if he can build a program.

Has he been sick? He looks totally different.

There must be analytics out there suggesting coaches cut out carbs or go plant based or something. Maybe the pudgy overworked look isn't cool to recruits. Sark, Lane Kiffin, and  Herman have all lost weight recently. Even Lincoln's bitch tits look smaller.

He does look dramatically different, must be on the cocaine or meth weight loss kick. Kind of funny after Chuck Strong was fired he ended up at USF and Herman ended up at FAU. If he stops being an immature bitch he might actually end up being a good coach there and find his way back into the P5 ranks.

Maybe a bit too skinny (Let's not body shame) but it stands to reason that low stress, less/no drinking and time to reflect would lead to weight loss.  I hope he does well.  We should all look forward to redemption stories.

All of the people that I know that quite drinking get fat if they don’t eat right and exercise.

The gap between his neck and the shirt is significant.  Like, dude, buy a new shirt for your first day with the media at your new job.

And, oh yeah, the sweat line.

Haha mind the gap indeed. Looks like a guy showing up at Walmart to interview for a stocker position and he grabbed his dads oversized shirt and suit. He’s sweating like a a dude getting the itch for his next line of coke.

So Mack Brown doesn't do analytics?!

I am shocked that the four best QBs since the Wishbone went away, in an era in which scheme and rules favor the offense, played on the highest scoring offenses Texas has had. Shocked.

That said, what he did with Shipley in 2008 was pleasing. Walking back the attempt to make VY something he wasn’t was good. The (injury driven) changes that had Jamaal Charles eviscerating Nebraska in Austin and basically continuing to abuse defenses was awesome.

His foibles have been well-hashed, but he did move things around to accommodate who he had available, so he wasn’t all bad.

Didn’t realize 3rd and Orlando was the DC at FAU this season. Assuming Herman will keep him on but it would be hilarious if he didn’t.

Ed Warriner is the OL coach at FAU too. He worked with Tom at Ohio State. Mensa can only coach if he’s around people that already know he’s a major asshole.

Do I really need to run down a list of all the Texas QBs who really were disappointments in the 70s/80s/90s?  Who were as heralded at the time as Quinn Ewers?   And how about the post Colt/post GD QBs at UT who only seem to do well when they transfer to SMU?

No, you don’t. Just go look at the size of shoulder pads in those decades and check out the changes in pretty much all the rules from holding on up.

Everything went to shit post-Colt. Mostly recruiting and motivation. Let’s not imply the lack of Greg Davis was the issue.
