Wow. There is definitely something wrong with this dude. To get fired less than two years into his contract is surprising.

They found his G2 stash and got pissed when he was ripping up their floor tiles without permission.

Damn.  I'm not a Tom Herman fan at all.  But he did a good job at Houston, and despite his shortcomings at Texas he had a 32-18 record here with 4 straight bowl wins.  I'm not saying that's worthy of a top tier job.  But you'd think he'd have more success at a place like Florida Atlantic and could maintain gainful coaching employment.  Now it looks like he'll either hope for an analyst job somewhere or will sell insurance.

Like Dbeasy commented, there's something more with this guy, probably tied to a substance dependency based on the rumors we heard during his last year at Texas.

Maybe not a csb, but a good friend of mine somehow ended up having dinner with Tom Herman during a ski trip about a year after Texas had fired him, and found him to be an incredibly nice guy, and said he didn't seem too bitter about his time at Texas.  My friend said that he really only complained of the constant managing of parents and other family members, and seemed to be relieved that he was no longer dealing with all that.

If someone paid me $15m to go away, I wouldn't be bitter, either.

I just think he isn’t meant to be a Head Coach. I don’t buy the substance abuse rumors (without a LOT more evidence) nor do I buy the affair rumors.

most likely he’s just not a good enough coach, and his outward demeanor projects arrogance which leads to dislike…

No shit I was gonna say, you think Jimbo is bitter at aggy? He has $77M reasons not to be.

He must have gone on a cocaine bender after getting canned at Texas because the next time we saw him at his first FAU presser it was obvious he dropped a ton of weight and this was before the ozempic craze.

Texas State had that at one time.  They fired their baseball coach about 40 years ago and assigned him to the campus police.   I know the most recently-fired WBB coach works for the registrar's office.

If Derrick Johnson made that call, I’ll let that pass as his total badassness outweighs such a mistake.  DJ needs to come back to campus and teach the defense the art of punching a ball out to cause a fumble.

DJ talked about it recently.

Arkansas threw things for a loop by choosing to defer until the second half. Rather than realizing he needed to elect to receive, Johnson had it so drilled into his head what he expected to happen on the coin toss that he accidentally opted to kick off to Arkansas in the first half also.

Yeah I thought FAU would be a sweet spot of sorts for him. Low enough profile to avoid some of the pitfalls at Texas, but plenty of second and third tier local talent that can play. He and his staff were bad roster managers but I think what Sark and co. have done with a lot of his guys tells us the evals were there, which would seem to tee him up at a place like FAU.

Maybe it really is just the alcohol/coke stuff. Hope he gets right if that's the case.

Why would any agent agree to reassignment terms, esp. in a mercenary era of college coaching?

Because the offers aren't exactly rolling in for their shithead client?

Put this on the carousel thread, but will add here...

Last week, Herman fired DC Roc Bellantoni.

They are rehiring him to report to the interim coach, Chad Lunsford.

lol... he was the toilet cleaner.. now he gets his old job back and Herman gets to clean the toilets.  FAU legal doing things right.

Well, he did have to live there for a few years. I'd be bitter at that.

He reached a #6 ranking his 2nd year at Houston then proceeded to lose to 3 unranked teams. Can’t believe he got hired here after that.

My sources tell me the set of tits that was used as a cocaine tray belonged to a stripper enjoyed by both Tom and Michelle.

We had an interesting, sort of related situation on the 40 Acres.

In Dec. 1991, David McWilliams resigned as head coach and asked to be reassigned in the athletic department.  He became an associate athletic director working with student athletes.

Just the year before, he had signed a new 4 year contact extension.

His base salary ?  $116,000 per year.

The joke at the time was that McWilliams was in charge of hot dogs and hamburgers for the Texas Exes.

He did have burnt orange blood. But, he never coached again.

David was my Dad’s go to for years for away game tickets, as well as extras at home games. Both were teammates and roomed together for a semester or two.

Dad seriously considered joing his staff when he was at Tech, but the recruiting, as well as living in Lubbock really mentally shrank his idea of leaving a HC/AD position in HS for at the time a small pay bump.

Hook’em!!!

He may be done as a coach but damned if it doesn't look like the boy's got a future in stand-up.
