Anything can happen in match play but aggy's #5 was at least 14 strokes behind every Texas golfer in stroke play.

If aggy doesn't think there's any chance she can beat anybody the smart play is to just concede the point to one of our top golfers. If it plays out that way.

That post didn't necessarily age well.

Southern Cal knock’s off Stanford to advance to final against Wake Forest, who defeated aggy earlier.  The finals are manana.

Stanford not winner or runner up helps a bit for Director’s Cup. The only finished 1 round better than us

Stanford has been the top team all year and nobody can beat them in stroke play over a 3 or 4 round tournament.

This format is terrible for rewarding the best teams. They won't change it though because it brings excitement.

Your last point is exactly what I was going to say when reading your previous post.  The NCAA is not going to change it because team stroke play is confusing and hard to follow for fans.  Match play is simple and easy and makes for better drama.

To a lesser extent, it is the same thing with the basketball tournament.  A 64 team single elimination tournament is not the best way to determine the best team in a given year, but it's really exciting.

Yup, it's all about the drama and attracting viewers.

I personally prefer the format that rewards the best teams. Play 4 or 5 rounds of stroke play and the top team wins. Golf is such a finicky sport that 1 round based on a hole by hole format brings all types of randomness.

Should have done 3 days, cut to 15. Then cut to 8. Then cut to 4. Then have those 4 play to decide

Next year there's going to be a lot of pressure to win it all. Likely returning 4/5 from last year's team with Liao coming in.

Texas signed a loaded recruiting class with 4/5 of their top golfers likely returning from a team that made stroke play at the NCAA championships. Not sure there are any teams that will have a better roster than Texas next year.

Texas finished 2nd at the regionals this week. They needed a top 5 finish to move on, so mission accomplished

1 stroke off the leader.  Not bad.

It feels like we can help our chances in the Directors Cup here.

Ranked #10 but I think capable of finishing higher than that. Projections are based on current rankings.

Any finish for Texas higher than 10th and for Stanford lower than winning the whole thing helps us.

No one in the top 10 failed to advance.

Day 1 at the NCAA tournament was a disaster for Texas. They sit in 21st place (+11) which is 8 strokes behind the Sunday cut and 13 strokes behind the Monday cut to qualify for the knockout rounds. They have 2 more days to try to dig out of this deep hole. For Directors cup watchers, Stanford sits in good position after day 1 in 4th at place at -3

A finish in 21st is not catastrophic for the directors cup. Earns 53 points versus expected 67.5 for 10th place projection.

2 more days to get better

Aggy, tree and Clemson sort of running away with this stroke play. Only teams under par

Texas is currently 9th and 5 strokes above the cut line. Just got started for today

Terrible day today and back below the cut by 2 strokes. Towards the end of the course. Will need a bunch of teams ahead of us to have bad days

Did Texas make the cut ?

We did, barely. Finished 14th - top 15 advance. Field will trim again today to top 8 for match play. We are 11 strokes from top 8, so a lot of ground to make up.

Any idea when this thing tees off?
target if we are going to make match play today is probably a couple under. Even might do it if conditions are tough. Anything other than that not likely good enough.
