So, back to that legalization thing

Abbott will find a way

Yep.  MAGA will cheer it on, and when you ask them "so you want the government telling you what you can and can't put in your body" they'll briefly be confused, and then go back to talking about child trafficking.

Yup. And just a stone's throw away south, you have the city of Farwell, TX, which is adjacent and across the tracks from Texico, NM.

The small sign just in front of the red truck hauling the camper welcomes you to New Mexico. The yellow building directly across the street is a smoke shop. Being caught with marijuana standing in the exact spot where this picture is taken would be a crime. Thanks, Texas!

I’ll see your example of trash weed policy and raise you this:

Last week a judge told my PTSD Vet that if he tested hot for THC, he would have his probation revoked, even if he could provide a valid prescription for an approved registered physician under the Compassionate Use Program.

Opioids? Benzos? No similar policy/stande.

That’s a judge who needs his/her shit put on blast.

Weed (and therapy) most likely saved me from a full fledged mental collapse when I was a young man. Additionally it helped keep me from what would have likely been a pill problem that could have taken any number of roads.

not to mention I watched my mom go through colon cancer, and saw how impactful marijuana was in her pain mitigation and relief treatment.

A friend of mine from a few jobs ago developed some joint issues and ended up developing gout. His doctor's prescribed him a bunch of opioids, but he just smoked weed for pain relief and completely effectively managed his pain.

It's such a farce that weed is considered so dangerous in the eyes of the law.

Personally I’m hoping it goes like last time this came up with those assholes…too much bickering/legislative energy ‘wasted’ on fighting over school vouchers, border, etc.  Of course, Abbot was successful on his efforts to Primary any dissenters and I’m worried it’ll go like his pardon recently…all those involved were appointed by the Texas Terrible Triad of Abbot/Paxton/Patrick.

The D8/D9 products have done me really well as a surrogate to the real deal…helpful for sleep, drinking less, and often works to setup a nice evening with the wife.

I’m all for regulating it…hate that you can buy it in gas stations, only self-imposed quality oversight, and places where it’s legal it comes in child resistant packaging.  A nightmare of mine is my kids getting into the gummies, so I have a special lock box for it.

Actually implementing this will kill a ton of small businesses, impact chronic pain sufferers/veterans, and be another reason to hate what Texas has become the past 22 years I’ve lived here.

There is a ghost town in the Texas Panhandle named Glenrio, Texas. It's on the old Route 66, right where Texas and New Mexico meet. If you look at this photo, Texas ends and New Mexico begins where the pavement changes color.  It's pretty desolate there. But that white building, the only structure? That's the Glenrio smoeke shop in New Mexico. You can legally buy all the marijuana, gummies etc ... that you want right there, within about 150 yards of Texas. Texas is so dumb.

looks like there's police waiting to pull you over if you head back to Texas. lol, nice try, copper

Texas likes owning libtards and stoners.

from arrest to booking, a cop wastes about 3 hours of his time to get a stoner off the streets. Cops don’t mind the easy work because it saves them from actually having to deal with violent and dangerous criminals while also making it look like they’re “ doing their job”.

Our state is run by extremely backwards and stupid ass people.

It’s not just about marijuana being legal. There is a huge industry that thrives on the fact that marijuana is illegal. Those “cannabis” shops that sell delta-8 and all that grey market stuff are huge lobbyists against recreational legalization because it will wipe out their industry overnight.

except that it wouldn't. they would simply have new competition. but in my experience even when states decrim it takes a while to adjust. they would simply adjust along with the new laws. I don't abide that as a legitimate reason to be against decrim

DeSantis and the hemp industry were working together against the Amendment that failed in Florida. DeSantis had previously vetoed a bill that would ban hemp products (like delta 8 ) and in return the hemp lobby gave the Republicans $5 million dollars.

But in June, when DeSantis was presented with a bill that would have imposed a similar hemp ban, he vetoed it. In the following weeks, CBS reported on text messages that showed hemp executives—whose lobbyists also have deep ties to Florida Republicans—rallying around DeSantis and pledging $5 million to the Florida Republican Party. Those messages showed that in turn, the state GOP would use that money to fight Amendment 3. “We know nothing in life is free and neither was this veto,” said an introductory post in a WhatsApp message group called Save Florida Hemp.

Except in Texas where I expect Delta8 and other Alts to be banned in the next session.

The amendment would’ve passed in Florida if they didn’t have such a shitty governor.  Desantis went all out to stop Legalization. I don’t think most other governors would have interfered so blatantly.

he went harder at the abortion vote, which likely had ripple effects on this amendment. oh well, keep trying, I guess

What does Trump winning mean for the ongoing effort to take marijuana off schedule 1?

Id assume they aren’t going to bother to stop or kill the review. Trump voted for legalization in Florida.

If someone offered him an opportunity to make money off it that would be a sure way to get it passed.

If he was going to do anything about legalization, he could or would of done it previously. I'm hopeful something will get done but I'm also realistic.

It should be legal everywhere.  Hate that it takes so long for it to happen.  An issue I disagree with many in my party on.  I see no reason for alcohol to be legal and pot illegal.  I dislike the smell and it being everywhere in public, but that's my only gripe.  And I feel like once it's legal, people eventually chill with the public consumption.  I spend summers in the mountains.  When it was first legal in Colorado for a couple years it seems like I smelled pot every where I went.  Now, I barely notice.

Agree with all this. And in my opinion public weed smoking is just as trashy and annoying as boozing in public places. I don’t think we need laws against either, generally, but I’m a big believer in cultural disapprobation as the best tool to control both- similar to what happened with cigarettes.  Banning it inside bars was the last step, not the first, and in the transition it got kick-ass patios built.

Laws reflect culture, not the other way around and when they are out of sync, culture wins 100% of the time.

I don’t get why republicans oppose it when they don’t have facts or public opinion on their side and they never will. Just because you don’t support something doesn’t mean you have to oppose it.  Why can’t they just get out of the way or put it up for a vote then vote present and let it pass with all democrat votes?

just doesn’t make any fucking sense and it makes me hate the GOP

When has facts ever mattered to Republicans? The easiest answer is that whatever gets them more votes or lines their pockets, you then have brainwashed sheeple that will vote for them because they hate the libs, that hatred is their drug of choice, it burns their brain and turns them into zombies.

Holy shit!  how do you do that?  LOL.

I am pro-legalization.  Have seen too many people that benignly enjoy pot and even more-so, those who can use it for pain management/ medical purposes.

I served on a grandjury years ago, and probably 80% at a minimum of the cases involved possession of marijuana or some variant.  Might as well make breathing a criminal act.  Marijuana is just a device for LE to leverage when they don't have anything else.  I'm one of the last folks on here who is anti LE, but I've come around in many ways.  I kept hearing these cases and I'm like, OK a handful for these guys are bad dudes, dealing and also possessing weapons.  Got it; but treating this dude who was vaping CBD oil or whatever or had a bag of gummies on them in the same manner is bullshit in my book.  These folks are not threatening society-  they just want their bag of Doritos and to be left the fuck alone.

As a society, we are chasing mice while getting curbstomped by elephants. Even if it is legal, I will likely never use it; but I do feel it should just be openly available.

"These stores not only sold to adults, but they targeted Texas children and exposed them to dangerous levels of THC."

Oh yeah, it's sooooooo dangerous! Please cite the statistics that show how many people die from it every year. Then do alcohol, then do cigarettes, then do your 6 week abortion ban and let's see how the numbers stack up.

Hey Dan, why don’t you go talk to an oncologist about how many of their patients are using weed to dull the pain from the chemo and maintain their appetite.

Republican voters and politicians are irredeemable piece of shit people.

Well, in California the cops just say they smelled the odor of "burnt marijuana" and because smoking while driving is illegal, boom, there's your PC for a stop. Doesn't matter if they later don't find any evidence of MJ being used.

You can't do that in Texas Dallas County which is weird because it's not legal like it is in Cali.

Sorry, worded that poorly. That WAS the lay of the land for close to a decade after legalization. CA supreme Court ruled a few years ago that it, by itself, is insufficient.

And so for a good part of my career, it was like a memo went out to all LEO that this was the golden ticket to justifying the subsequent search.

this just demonstrates that the folks enforcing the laws have no clue how the world works. most people I know ingest their thc. most people don't use thc recreationally. it's medicine. it needs to be treated as such, full stop.

Doesn't matter if it is recreational use or medical use, shit should be legal. People should not have to trot out "oh meh anxiety and glaucoma" to get a special blessing from the government to ingest a plant.

It needs to be repeated: a move to Schedule 3 is not legalization. It will treat marijuana no differently than testosterone oil, tramadol, and other controlled substances. Will this mean weed shops are shut down and marijuana is effectively moved to pharmacies? Here in Texas you can't dispense a schedule 3 med without a prescription from a licensed pharmacy. I'm excited to expand the compounds I can offer patients if this happens but I'll be pissed if the local smoke shop can do it too.

I can't dispense Schedule 3 meds without a pharmacy license, a licensed pharmacist on duty at all times, DEA certificate, federal and state security standards to meet, recordkeeping procedures for on-site inspection, proof of valid contract with wholesaler, reporting requirements to state PMP, yearly state inspections, cleaning standards that are actionable on a state license if not performed, etc. Yes a smoke shop bypassing all of that would piss me off. Marijuana dispensers should be required to play under the same set of rules.
