yeah apparently this factor and lloyd’s buyout are why it’s miller and not one of them. i understand not being able to justify having self earning more than sark, but the idea that we “couldn’t afford” lloyd’s buyout bother’s me. “Texas” and “can’t afford” are two phrases which do not go together.

Texas can afford that buyout, they're just smart enough to direct that money to a different place, like NIL.

If it were modern-day John Wooden with the buyout, the story would be different.

One Elite Eight appearance in ten years at Tennessee? One Final Four appearance in a nearly 40 year coaching career? I guess if the goal is making it to the second weekend of the tournament and nothing beyond that, sure it looks like a great hire.

Doing some key-word searching from people whose opinions I trust and it is a relief seeing stuff like this. Having stepped on campus 14 years ago we have never run a modern/fun offense in that time so I'm going to believe. Also, I know people won't believe it but coaches can evolve. Gonna wait until I see what he's able to bring in roster-wise (which will be telling to see where we're at as far as NIL investment) especially given that we very well could have an entirely new roster to put actual expectations on him but it's nice to be actually optimistic.

We got to see it briefly before Beard choked away his opportunity here.

That’s a horrible attitude for this site. Consider yourself reported.

Well - and I played basketball - so this pains me to say it (not really) - Texas football and baseball have zero margin for error, basketball is the sport that a coach makes the second weekend of the tournament half the time he’s gonna be set. National titles are aspirational but no one is losing their job here just because they don’t win it all.

You were calling for that after the loss to Nevada in the tournament. I remember

i actually was calling for him a few months before we played against him in that tourney, which made that game thread extra spicy considering my open pleading for him to replace shaka.

So how does this compare to what your sources were saying? Lol

their tune changed and just kept getting more and more “resigned” to the fact that it would be miller as the last 7-10 days have gone on. two weeks ago they were expecting a real deal coaching search vetting all of the best candidates, and then every communication just became more and more, as i said, “resigned”.

multiple people have said that CDC had more to do with this hire then several previous hires, essentially that miller is his guy, and that he feels more confident in how things will play out with miller (at this price) than if we had made a huge splash dropping crazy money on lloyd or self.

we saved money, the expectations are now way lower than they otherwise would have been, and CDC really believes in sean miller and feels like he’s got his guy. my takeaway is that he keeps his shit so close to the vest that even people i know who are usually way out in front of stuff like this were off the scent until basically a week ago.

He has definitely aimed higher on all the other hires he made without strong outside feedback (football). I guess RT was also made with outside pressure but I thought that was more PR than $$$ weighing in.

I would have rather we spent upfront for any of the younger Big 12 guys.

Apple, and everyone who works there apparently, don't know the word "its". It is always "autocorrected" to it's.

Meaning our BMDs are still not all in on basketball.

Hasn’t CDC shown that he knows what he’s doing with his hires?

Expand

Outside of Sark, RT, and now Miller, his other hires have been consensus Top 10 coaches in their sport. I'll give him props on sussing out Sark...RT was a failure.

It’s always easy to be all in with someone else’s money I have found. We needed a competent coach to match with our NIL and that is what Miller is. A good offensive minded coach that will do well at Texas. CDC wanted to hire him last time but fan sentiment got in the way. Not this time.

I worked at a downtown restaurant that many celebs frequented.  One day Sandra Bullock came in with a group of 6 or 7.   They paid with a coupon  point being, even rich people can be thrifty especially when there’s no real roi to them   They don’t own the team

as far as beignnall in on basketball, don’t forget we didn’t throw money at sark until he proved himself.

I really wanted Lloyd and if we passed on him because of the buyout that kinda sucks. I also know shit about fuck when it comes to college basketball coaches. Miller will obviously be a big upgrade over RT and maybe it’s a great fit.
