miller needs to talk with those guys asap too

Why so they can continue to not contribute to NIL?

My bad it was $3 mil think I had it confused with a different KD donation.

You didn't make it clear that that was what you were referring to - and who gaf where the money came from it's KD's money.

No one. Do you know of any of our former players besides KD who has contributed significantly?  Because if you do that would be the only relevant comment to the rather non controversial post that I made.
I’m really kind of interested in the question because I legitimately don’t know the answer.

Texas wanted to hire Miller last time but circumstances and the fact he lost to Texas and Terry it didn't happen.

This time Miller beat Texas and Terry, and he got the job.

So, if Texas and Terry had beaten Miller and Xavier, which they should have.

Then Texas loses to Illinois in the first round, which most likely would have happened.

Does Texas still name Miller as head coach, if Terry was fired.

Would seem a little awkward.

...but all that shit that used to be "unethical" is legal now.

It’s adorable if you think paying players is the only unethical shit coaches do.  If paying dudes is legal then the less ethical will find other rules to break to gain an edge.  I’m glad Texas is slowly walking away from the sanctimonious we’re squeaky clean and pure as the driven snow crap.  I want to win.

Miller's unethical shit sure didn't win him much

Oh hell no. His main credential was that he said “yes” after we were to “no” 5 or 6 times.

Persistence pays off! RT wanted the Texas gig for decades, and he had his opportunity. His tenure went as I expected, but maybe Sean Miller will shock us all and make Texas a national title contender.

Off the top of my head:

Pitino, Calipari, Drew, Hurley, Self & Izzo is all I could come up with.

So not a lot.

This is a great opportunity for very good college basketball coach.

Let's see what he can do.

This has the potential to be a very good hire.

I’m mostly excited about the offense he runs and his eye for guys that know how to shoot the three ball.

And he can develop guards. Feels like it's been a decade or longer since we had great PG play.

Apparently one of our friends texted Sean this morning and said, “congratulations”, and the response was, “thanks”.

Then he texted "lol poooor Aggie" and "OU Sucks!"

We're in good hands.

Gerry on NIL

Was told about 20 minutes ago that Texas is expected to see a basketball all together NIL increase into the 4.8-5 million range for next season.

This season's roster was 3.7-3.8 million.

That increase would place Texas in the top 15 range nationally based on numbers currently

This is a big start. Miller isn't Rodney Terry level mediocre. He's a solid coach, he just isn't elite. And he was fired for a cheating scandal, so it's weird to hire a coach who's a cheater after standing on your principles and running off a much better coach who had a one time domestic violence incident. At least have some consistency, but they could have done worse and hired another Terry type for dirt cheap. At least this is a coach capable of making a final 4 type run if everything is pushed all in.

Since Miller isn't elite, and isn't a recruit magnet, he'll need top 5 NIL money to compete. Top 15 is a start, but it has to get pushed higher to have a shot at a title with him.

Gerry loves the hire, some here love the hire. I read the Arizona record, how he gets fired and then the meh on his second stint at Xavier. Can some here help me as to why I should like the hire other then CDC thought it was a good idea.

The question is who would you have hired instead, realistically?

I will say it is almost like CDC predicted this.  he probably wanted Miller last time, Terry beat him(oops).  He was going to have a problem so he bowed to media, major alum players and Terry's money buddies.  Gave RT the bare minimum contract knowing the buyout was baked in.

Then Terry gets matched with Miller again but fortunately Miller beats him.  CDC had to be like "WTF, somebody give me a break here."

Shaka got 5 stars at Texas. It isn't about stars, it's about getting the right mix and building the right team.

In all those years at Arizona and Xavier, Miller got to 3 elite 8s and 7 sweet 16s. That's his ceiling, like I said in a post a few days ago in the Fire Rodney thread. He's going to need maximum all in financial push from the University and it's people to break that ceiling. If they don't go all in Miller is good enough to have us in a lot of 2nd round/Sweet 16s as a ceiling.

Also, he cheated. Doesn't matter if paying players is legal now, it absolutely was not legal then. He compromised his ethics and was a black stain on the reputation of the University. That's why he was back at Xavier and not another top program after Arizona fired him. He's a redemption project. I just wish we had kept our own redemption project who had us on the rise and built an elite 8 team. Who, while living in Mississippi, has not had another incident in over 2 years.

If you dumb monkeys who are celebrating this would realize the hypocrisy and stupidity of your stance on Beard, and the huge mistake it was to fire him, then we could all get along.

Miller's a big upgrade in terms of resume, playing style and ability to fill the gym. I'll also take my chances with him as a recruiter, especially at Texas. Had he been our coach this year, even with the Mark and Weaver injuries we'd have been a much more complete team. The list of guys better than him is shorter than many fans assume.

This is the operative question. Apparently, the answer is nobody.
That’s why I’m not bent about the hire even though to me it’s underwhelming.
But, as I sit here watching Ole Miss, it drives home that we apparently can’t have nice things when it comes to basketball.  We were close.
It’s hard to go from that to consoling myself with the fact that at least Miller may prove to be better than RT.

Mack Brown's ceiling was 11 wins for 21 seasons.  Do you know how stupid you sound?

It's 100 percent pertinent and relevant at the moment. The AD just hired a disgraced former cheater who was fired from Arizona and had to go back to a lower level program to rehab himself. 2 years after firing a much better coach who then went down to a lower program to rehab himself. It's like divorcing your wife for cheating once, then 2 years later marrying a much uglier and nastier woman who got divorced because she cheated. It's stupidity, have some consistency. If they wanted the basketball program to stand on ethical principle then hire a squeaky clean coach with no cheating scandals in the past. If they don't care about reputation, then why did they fire the better coach?

Also, Beard is now up 11 as a 6 seed coaching a program that has never been to the elite 8, and hasn't been to a sweet 16 in 24 years. I hope he wins the national title there just to piss in all of you moron's Cheerios.

Since tons is plural, that’s at least two tons. At 200 pounds per player on average, that would be 4000 pounds/200 pounds per player = 20 5 stars.  In 12 years at Arizona. That’s 1.67 5 stars per year.

While I find the hire underwhelming, I don’t think it’s necessary to spend wildly on a basketball coach. Someone competent, with an offensive system, is an upgrade.  Money added to the roster pool is a great start.

I think this is the reality of the sport moving forward. Especially for a program like Texas.

Get your ducks in a row and the $$$ in order and recruit the shit out of Texas and do it with someone at the helm that isn't going to drive the bus off a cliff.

I mean - crappy coaches win titles or get close in the NBA all the fucking time.
