Begged for him 4 years ago and was easily my #1 choice, don't see him leaving USC after a year especially given the croots he's got coming in

Yup this is who I wanted too after Oats.

He’s home now though.

This isn’t true, not at all.

What’s fucking over Texas is a) timing and b) caring about perception

this program is to 15 in all time wins in college basketball. It has a history. It has the means to win a NC. The coaches this website wants either have a large ass buyout or have already established top programs so there’s no need to leave.

Nobody is taking or leaving this job because of all time wins. CDC is one of the most persuasive and capable hirer in college sports. If the best he can do is Miller, it is what it is. There’s nothing unique about the timing of firing a coach in March right before the portal opens and I’m not aware of any elite coaching options CDC is ignoring for perception’s sake unless you’re talking about Beard

Probably not, but he's going to have to say no.

Says who? I would bet my house that CDC isn't wasting his time on Self and Self doesn't have any reason to even take the call. You have no leverage whatsoever over him.

Has anyone considered Miller isn’t the best we can do, but that’s who CDC wants? And has wanted since 2023

Who says it's CDC who calls him?

Throw some money at Hurley.  Just to see. I know he didn’t take Lakers job but Storrs sucks.  Great timing now, too.

The guy’s from Jersey. Storrs is like Highland Park to him.

C'mon, we're not hiring Buzz.

Buzz Williams in 6 years at A&M: 1-3 vs Texas, 2 NCAA tournament wins.

Rodney Terry in 3 years at Texas: 2-1 vs A&M, 4 NCAA tournament wins.

😂😂😂😂

on to bigger and better things

Does CDC not follow basketball?

Miller has 3 NCAA tournament wins in the last 7 years, and has missed it 4 times. Very impressive

6th Street always there to hate on our coaches before they’re even hired. How’s the Sark hate working out for you? Sean Miller is going to kill it at Texas. Great hire.

Kinda wish he had ignored Miller for perception's sake.  Oh well.

By kill it, do you mean kill all fan interest in men’s basketball?

CDC gets the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Miller + bigger NIL budget + the increase in MBB scholarships

Let’s see if it works

You will learn to loathe Sean Miller as much as I do.

Regardless of who it is coaching Texas needs to start crushing NIL and recruiting. Hopefully he's a good enough coach still to take full advantage of that. May just need some new scenery.

Either way it's fucking annoying to be back to square one like this. Thanks, Beard.

Underwhelmed but I obviously hope he kills it.

Idk how to change my name I may need help.

You should start a thread to solicit suggestions and then create a poll to decide on the winner.

Look at his record at Arizona and get back with me.

I can guarantee that I follow Arizona basketball a lot close than you do.

You ready for that name change, buddy?

Well I was not pleased when we hired a football coach with a well documented drinking problem who was unceremoniously fired from his last head coaching gig (at a blue blood, no less).  Turns out CDC knew more than me.

I'm not necessarily saying trust the coaches/AD, I'm just saying if I dislike a hire it has a great chance of working out due to my reverse Midas touch.  So pencil in Texas as going deep in your future brackets.

If RT leaves for another program voluntarily, say USF as been mentioned, then that 4-5 million could go to another coach yes?

I’m sorry but the way I heard he treated the players at practice and in the locker room, he doesn’t need to coach anymore players.  People keep saying he’s such a good guy, yes publicly. I hope the next coach can coach and treat the players with respect.

Self is from Oklahoma and played for Oklahoma State, so he took the call.

Exactly.

Coaching your Alma mater is a dream for most guys.

It’s why I couldn’t understand Tech fans melting down when Beard went to UT.

Just asking because I don’t know much about Miller, but why him over other coaches?

$$$?

CDC was on Jim Livengood’s staff when Livengood hired Miller at Arizona. I think that has a bit to do with it.

In all likelihood, the best of the best weren't attainable, and CDC has pre-existing relationships/knowledge of Miller due to his time at Arizona.

Also, CDC's hiring strategy of hiring coaches with high-major experience knocked out some of the higher-variance candidates that may be more intriguing.
