You gotta go back ten years to find Miller’s tournament success.

Could have said the exact same thing when Tenn hired Barnes. How did that work out so far?

One Elite Eight appearance in ten years at Tennessee? One Final Four appearance in a nearly 40 year coaching career? I guess if the goal is making it to the second weekend of the tournament and nothing beyond that, sure it looks like a great hire.

2023 wasn't ten years ago.

We played him in the sweet 16 less than 2 years ago.

Look no further than right here that Texas isn’t a basketball school. True basketball schools expect to be playing on the second weekend of the tournament, they don’t jizz in their pants about a guy who gets you there every now and then.

We have a more recent FF than Zona.

And a more recent EE. And one less EE since 2001.

Zona has more sweet sixteens but you don't count those apparently.

Miller obviously wasn't my first choice but I trust CDC and I don't think it's particularly difficult to win at Texas.

There's only a handful of Texas fans who think we're a basketball school.

It's always been third behind football and baseball.

Yep, and Arizona fired Miller’s ass and sent him packing back to Cincinnati because he wasn’t getting it done. The expectations at a place like Arizona get a guy like Miller fired.

Holy Shit, if true.

I knew him, at Pitt, well enough to talk to him. Not friends and all but, friendly. I think he is a good coach. If there is plenty of $$, which I assume you all have because, Texas. I think it can work out really well.

Miller may not be the hot hire, but he a solid coach and he's never had this much NIL and strong AD backing, and that's a winning combination.

He had extremely strong AD backing at Arizona in Livengood and CDC and had NIL there before it was legal.

Exactly.

Coaching your Alma mater is a dream for most guys.

It’s why I couldn’t understand Tech fans melting down when Beard went to UT.

Well, they're stupid, so...

Explain this to me.

is NCAA changing scholarship limits on certain sports?

Or are their caps we’ve always stayed under on certain sports because Title IX and are just re-shuffling the deck?

Yes. But not every school has the resources to fully fund them, like we do

Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, the NCAA is implementing changes to scholarship limits and roster sizes, allowing schools to offer scholarships to every athlete on their roster and implementing new roster limits across all Division I sports.

And Texas fired Rick Barnes and just fired Terry after only two seasons. The Shaka fuckup in between isn't indicative of how Texas operates when it doesn't have a total fucking dipshit AD handing out bad extensions.

Kansas hasn’t made it out of the first weekend in 6 of the last 7 years.

I’m sorry but the way I heard he treated the players at practice and in the locker room, he doesn’t need to coach anymore players.  People keep saying he’s such a good guy, yes publicly. I hope the next coach can coach and treat the players with respect.

You mentioned this before. In general, I’m not a big believer in coaches who scream and yell so much that they treat athletes poorly.

With that said, a ton of highly successful coaches are not easy to play for and yelling and screaming is often part of the formula for success. Beard is a screamer, as are many other top coaches. The real question is whether the behaviors cross lines, or are the players simply not mentally strong enough to take the “coaching”.

Wasn't CDC gone by the time Miller got to Arizona?

Yep, had to go back and look. I had forgotten what year it was that he took the job at Rice. Livengood was CDC’s mentor - it’s uncanny how many of CDC’s traits and mannerisms are so similar to Jim’s - so I still think there’s a level of familiarity with Miller from that association. As an aside, while Livengood hired Miler, he was long gone by the time Miller was fired.

Vic is a screamer. Dude was about to have a heart attack in a 1-16 game last night. His players love him bc he coaches them hard and loves them harder

Yeah college basketball coaches are kind of dicks in general.

Nothing I heard made me think RT crossed any lines. Players apparently thought he was weird and a little too intense and didn't like him very much but nothing would lead me to believe he shouldn't coach again. He was coaching for his job basically the whole season. Guessing stuff like that makes it less fun to play for the guy 🤷

I imagine players are ok with being coached hard if they’re winning; if they’re not winning the coach is just an asshole.
