Was just watching a guy analyze the draft after the trade deadline. Tre went 10th in his mock. His qoute was:

"I wish he was in a better basketball enviornment. He is getting nothing for playing at Texas"

So that is nice...

My Top 8 Candidates to Replace Rodney Terry

1. Tommy Lloyd, Arizona
2. TJ Otzelberger, Iowa St - Wife is Iowa St basketball alumni, probably wouldn't happen but you have to attempt.
3. Dusty May, Michigan
4. Ben McCollum, Drake
5. Mick Cronin, UCLA - His yearly rants are pretty fucking annoying but otherwise he's a good coach
6. Grant McCasland, Texas Tech - Due to the Beard thing I don't think Tech would ever allow this to happen and would pony up big money to prevent and as noted above. That is why I have him toward the bottom.
7. Pat Kelsey, Louisville
8. Todd Golden, Florida

If this does happen that would be crazy.

Scott Drew good enough for Indiana but not Texas! lol

If Baylor opens, he gone. That’s his Alma mater. I’d hate losing out on GM to Baylor, but as Tech fans know once, the call of your Alma mater is too much

Taking coaches from Tech hasn’t even been a mixed bag for Texas. It hasn’t worked out. I’d be wary going to that well again.
Lincoln Riley to Tech will never happen even if he gets fired from SC

Tre at 10 would be a fucking steal. Would love for him to replace Vassell on the Spurs

Unsurprisingly, Brad Stevens is NOT going back to coach college.

That's crazy talk. I've heard he hates making $15M a season to run the best franchise in basketball.

For whatever it’s worth, Nahlin said this morning that he thinks Terry gets another year if we make the tourney. At least in part because CDC isn’t crazy about the potential replacement options.

Unless it’s Nate Oats because of the buyout reduction, who is more obtainable after next season than now?  And if the list is just Nate Oats, go hire him anyway if that’s who you’ve identified for the job.

It would be hanging over the program for an entire year. Everyone would know he’s a lame duck and we just kept him another year because reasons. I just can’t see CDC letting that happen.

Well, fuck Nahlin and here’s to not making the tournament.  I have no fucks left to give about Texas basketball. Thanks RT!

i won’t lie: when i’m watching the games im rooting for my team. but in my heart i know that we need to lose. this is never more clear than when we get behind by 20 and then go on a 10-0 run with 8 minutes left and i instinctively react like, “damn it!” sobering moments, and clear signs that it’s time to move on.

this isn’t going to get better

Kentucky game needs to be 70% blue. CDC needs to get the message

Maybe Spoelstra gets tired of Miami.

They could though. Remaining 6 games are all manageable and they only need to win 4.

That said the HCA has almost completely dissipated and the team appears to have quit giving a shit.

Rodney's record so far.

image.thumb.png.003521e598ea8ed1f4feb4fafb8ef37e.png

  • 2022-23 = 29 wins (seven from Beard)
  • 2023-24 = 21 wins
  • 2024-25 = 15 wins so far and we'll need to win every single remaining game to get up to 21 wins

*Every single remaining game on the schedule ->

Just a reminder that Nahlin almost never has real sources within the AD and is just making shit up 99.9% of the time.

the trajectory for Terry in this league was never in doubt...we decided to fuck around for 2 years.  will see if CDC wants to add a year to that.

This-at least OB has Steve Hicks leaking anything that gets to the BOR level.

I’m sure CDC is well aware that there are candidates previously thought unavailable that don’t come out unless the position is available.

I get that Texas baseball ain't Texas basketball - but look at the track record Pierce had and how quickly CDC pulled the plug there.

Sure - he had Schloss in the bag - but Schloss wasn't going anywhere.

The idea that Texas can't make a good hire this offseason and has to wait a year is fucking ridiculous. We aren't a better destination than UNC so what difference does that make? And CDC is paid to do shit like outbid and outsell Indiana for a basketball hire (which shouldn't be hard - we've been better than them the last 20 years even with Shaka's reign of shit).

Like we have already said here this program is on life-support right now from a fan interest and buy-in standpoint - and a big reason why is because we were JUST reminded that - oh hey - you CAN win at Texas. We had our guy get canned 11 games in in a huge scandal and an average coach take over and still should have made the Final Four (I mean shit - RT almost made a SS LAST season).

Plus - if I'm a prospective hire I'd rather take over after this season and try and pull off a quick rebound than have to clean up an even bigger mess after next season.

TLDR - I think IT is full of shit.

Yeah, I thought IT lost their insider.

I feel like I generally trust Gerry on these things—and @closetojumping.

To reiterate what I was told and wrote about on other threads, everything is going to be based upon on the premise of “program trajectory”, similarly to Pierce in baseball.

Go to the tournament and lose on the first weekend? Flat to negative trajectory.

Get to the Sweet 16 or better? Things are looking up.

Don’t make the tournament? GTFO.

The only gray area is a round of 32 finish.

I pass this along from someone who is probably more important with next steps than anyone else.

I don't like the idea of some sort of unexpected tournament success becoming a get out of jail free card.  Certainly nothing below Sweet 16.  At that point or beyond we're back to the "optics" issue.  Regardless, anyone who thinks this program's trajectry is upward is a blind fool, and I know CDC isn't a blind fool.

SS and you could make the argument he's a "tourney coach". Granted they need to make the tourney first.

Either way I don't really trust RT to build another roster. Both of his seasons Texas have had glaring holes (hilariously undersized starting backcourt in 24, zero depth at the 5 in 25).

The average fan still indexes program health disproportionately on tournament success. Look at how Kevin Keatts won his way off the hot seat despite six entirely forgettable years before the Final Four run (and look at where NC State is now).

this is exactly how we got one Shaka Smart.  unless some guy is way out performing his seed on the regular(like a lot) basing it on tourney success is a fools errand.

at this point terry has performed to his seed basically.
