Haven’t they both made just one Final Four in their careers?

I didn’t say Barnes was a successful tournament coach.

Byington at Vandy might be a name to keep an eye on.

Doubt it - he's been to 1 NCAAT in his entire career. He's going to need to show more postseason success before he gets a look by Texas.

His gaudy record is from coaching in the Southern, Sun Belt and CAA and he made 1 tournament with JMU.

We've had this discussion - Texas doesn't need to take a flyer on a coach that doesn't have sustained P4 success, let him prove himself elsewhere first.

That’s stupid. Theres plenty of options in between - it’s not Wade or “someone for the seminary”

I don’t think CDC touches anyone with a previous show cause. Even if it expired.

I’m skeptical of anybody who cut their teeth pre-NIL by cheating their ass off and have done nothing of note since then. Will Wade and Sean Miller fall into that category.

he’s a HS girls coach somewhere in Texas. he’s young, maybe even still in his 20’s. he’s a passionate basketball fan, but he definitely sees college basketball through a much younger lens than most of the people here, eg him not really caring about will wade’s past and him possibly not understanding that Texas has actively avoided coaches like that for a very very long time.

I’m going to choose to believe Alabama has “crashed” these last few weeks because Oats has been meeting with CDC at the Raising Cane’s in Opelousas.

Tech has also looked a bit distracted.  (Could be McCasland is finalizing his move to Baylor after Drew goes to Indiana)

If they aren't meeting at Ray's, this whole thing is fucked from the jump.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/bill-self-seriously-considered-leaving-kansas-for-alma-mater-oklahoma-state-in-2024-per-report/

"Kansas coach Bill Self "seriously considered" taking the Oklahoma State job this past offseason, according to the Tulsa World's Berry Tramel. Self is an Oklahoma native who played for the Cowboys in the 1980s and later worked as an assistant there before holding his first two head coaching positions in the state at Oral Roberts and Tulsa.

The Cowboys were seeking a replacement for fired coach Mike Boynton and ultimately settled on Western Kentucky's Steve Lutz after Self opted to remain with the Jayhawks. However, Lutz's hiring only came after Oklahoma State put a "hard sell" on Self.

"Multiple Cowboy sources said OSU took a swing at Self, and Cowboy decision-makers grew increasingly confident that Self was impressed with the organization of the plan his alma mater had produced and was intrigued at the package, complete with competitive salary and budget to pay players in this new professional age of college basketball," the report read.

Asked about the report, Self on Friday said "I spoke to them, answered questions about the job and offered my opinion about what is needed to win in our league, which I have done every time the job has opened. "
