Wait—what are you hearing on RT? You’re the billion dollar donor on this board.

I’ve never claimed to be anything but adjacent to some people who are and that eavesdropping is one of my super powers.
I left last night feeling comfortable he’s done.

A lot of baggage in college hoops with the Adidas bullshit. I think there’s enough good names out there, that we don’t have to go in those direction.

I want Oats, but I understand the best we can probably do is McCasland. So be it.

With what CDC has done, I don't believe there is a "best we can probably do."

Are we talking about Oats specifically?  Sankey has waited about a decade for SEC hoops to get this good. I doubt he wants Texas to rock the boat, and would prefer they hire outside of the conference.

I don’t think it’ll prevent CDC from doing whatever he wants, but it might be out there.

Bama has gotten serious about hoops, invested in the program, and made a great hire. Good for them.

Slippery slope there.   We just pulled Schloss from aggy who is somewhat in the sec.  If not him we allegedly were gonna go after vitello

I don’t think CDC gives a crap. He stole Beard from another conference school. He stole Schloss days before we officially became SEC members.

just went ahead and reached out to someone i trust, and he said that this search will *not* just be cdc making the call. said that cdc will be involved, but that the big money collective has gotten together and have basically said, “its time” to make a big boy move, and as such they will have a lot of say and sway in the matter. said oats is at the top of the list.

Just go ahead and say it. You PM'd @closetojumping.

he's been at Gonzaga since 1989

I guess there's always a number someone will say yes to, but I just don't see him leaving. He has it so dicked. Lives in the middle of nowhere. Doesn't have to deal with any boosters or bullshit. Gonzaga has sneaky money (no, it isn't Texas money but it's more than you think) and just gets to lay low and no one bugs him.

Yes and no. It's not your typical rebuild job: brand new arena, lots of BMD and NIL $, top tier market... It's not a bad situation.

rebuilds don’t take more than 1-2 seasons these days. a coach like that at a school like this could easily be in the S16 in year two.

all believable, but until someone does it and can be consistent i'll believe it

62 isn’t that old anymore. plenty of guys are coaching well into their 70’s these days. rick barnes was 61 when he took over at Tennessee and not only has it worked out extremely well, he doesn’t appear to be slowing down. no reason to think few couldn’t do the same, or even better, here at Texas.

Pitino is 72 and in his second year at St Johns, and he's got them in the top 10 and probably winning the Big East. I can promise the Texas job isnt as big a rebuild as that St Johns gig was.

that piece of shit should have been banned for life for multiple, multiple, multiple, multiple offenses on top of more multiple offenses

new ncaa rule - if your school has to vacate a title, the head coach is banned for life, but can appeal after 5 years

Oh he's a scumbag for sure, I'm just stating that people who say 60 is too old, or you need more than two years in todays world of NIL and unlimited transfers have their head up their ass. We saw what Beard did here in two years with basically no roster when he showed up. We have money, we'll buy players. I hate thats what college athletics is these days, and my give a fuck is about 10% what it once was, but Texas has a lot of advantages that aren't easily duplicated elsewhere.

i'd imagine cdc has a target and a short list

I do not readily keep up with UT basketball that often, but Pat Kelsey seems like a guy who is going to win a bunch of tournament games in the next several years at Louisville. I think he could handle coaching in Austin. Louisville is just on year one though so I am sure he has no desire to pick up and leave after bringing them back from the dead to near the top of the ACC again.

Isn’t he a devoted catholic?  Don’t see he would leave his school for that reason alone.  But yes, I’d be fine with him.

I don't understand 3 putt's reply here.  Beard did it 2 years ago.  We all saw it.  He fucked that up himself, it had nothing to do with UT or the ability to win consistently here.

Look at Louisville which was quite literally the rock bottom of all p6 programs the last couple years. I'd be pissed if we weren't good immediately under a new coach.

I don't really get the fascination with Donovan. It's been 10 years since he's been in the college game and, while not totally his fault, he's been with the most lifeless, directionless team in the NBA for 5 years and hasn't really had a year you'd say he's overperformed over expectation ever? At least Snyder has shown more ability to win and improve teams more recently but neither guy is inspiring and neither is leaving an NBA job so Snyder is almost definitely out of the picture and Donovan feels like a 50/50 at worst to stay in Chicago. It also feels like we'd be buying Donovan at the lowest his stock has been. I also place way less emphasis on recruiting given teams focusing way less on high school recruiting and have been on record wanting a competent offensive minded coach since before Beard which we haven't seen in Austin in at least the last 15 years.

That kind of leads to Wade who fits the mold of great recruiter, mediocre at best coach that we've had. Very cool that he's outtalenting teams in the Southland, that's not the a performance that should lead to being hired at Texas.

I actually agree with this on Donovan. If that’s who it would be, I don’t think I’d be overly excited. More like:

I don’t think Few is it either. In fact, I see him retiring rather than go to a new team/new program this late in his career. He strikes me as the old guard who doesn’t like this new age of college basketball as well.

Maybe Spoelstra gets tired of Miami.

I think he would be a perfect hire but he just got a massive extension. He'd need to get fired after the Jimmy Butler debacle and then he would need to be willing to leave the NBA.

He's a guy who succeeds when he's got a clear talent advantage. I think Texas can provide that to him.
