In addition to the level 1 violations that he committed, Will Wade lied to NCAA administrators and his own athletic department. You would have better chances wishing you could fly than CDC voluntarily bringing that to Austin. He's a fundamentally dishonest person.

Yep.  Texas wouldn't touch him with a twenty foot pole.  Let our shitty corrupt conference mates have him if he's so in demand.

well for what it’s worth Bobby Burton said this morning,

when/if Texas parts ways with Terry Texas won’t be worried about the money for the Coach, Staff, Buyout, NIL.

Money will not be a problem.

fuck it get Phil Jackson

Donovan in 9 NBA seasons has gone over on his team's preseason win total 6 times. If the Bulls win 4 of their last 21 games he will make it 7 out of 10. One of those seasons was 2016 where OKC underperformed in the regular season but they almost made the Finals. He won coach of the year in 2020 (although having Chris Paul helped).

He and OKC mutually parted ways after 2020 and has done nothing in Chicago that would cost him his job. He just hasn't had very good rosters his entire time in the NBA. I would say making it 5 years without being fired with two different franchises is fairly impressive and at worst he's probably in the top half of coaches in the league.

I would absolutely give him a phone call. The dude made 4 Final Fours at Florida - a school that prior to his arrival had made two sweet sixteens ever and one of those was vacated.

Totally valid, and I'm not saying I wouldn't give him a call or that I wouldn't be fine hiring him in a fully formed process. He's just not going to be my #1 by a long distance where I'm not considering other options. I do think some of the Bulls o/u has some noise to it where they just don't tank where rational teams tank in order to try and be the #10 team in the conference.

Isn’t he a devoted catholic?  Don’t see he would leave his school for that reason alone.  But yes, I’d be fine with him.

Is there a sizeable Catholic population somewhere in Central Texas?

I've noticed a disturbing lack of crazy beautiful Eyetalian Women.

A couple of musts haves:

Out of bounds plays

The ability to break a press

It's funny... I see this in HS ball. Coaches coach it and players lose their f'n brains as soon as the ball is inbounded. I've told my son, no less than a 100 times, "DO NOT DRIBBLE INTO THE TRAP ON THE RIGHT," and he has dribbled into the trap on the right about 99 times, which is death for a righty, because you can't turn left from there without exposing the ball unless you switch to your left hand... which is what should happen before you get in the trap in the first place, if you haven't already made the pass to the middle that you should have been looking for...  I watch teams get pressed, the ball gets inbounded, and everyone turns and sprints down court, back to the ball. I had kid tell me, "I didn't want to bring my man to the ball." DAFUQ?!

Inbounds plays... Coach and Inbounder shout out the play....3 out of 4 players line up in the right spot. One numbnut is lost, and 2 of the 4 players in the field shout the play at lost player... 1 of the 4 physically grabs him and puts him in the place... Inbounder slaps ball, lost numbnut actually runs the right play, but one of the original 3 goes to the wrong spot, inbounder tries to lob the ball to him over 2 defenders... turnover.

If I were an actual basketball coach, I would be dead from heart attack, stroke, and aneurism in every game. RT does a good job of surviving. He's a survivor.

A little related but Jai is leaving Duke at the end of the regular season to go to Miami.

First I’ve seen an assistant leave a team before the tournament, especially Duke who has a chance to win the the NC.

The main thing a head coach must have is a strategic vision for a roster and the ability to manage it year over year.

Coaches come to Texas and they get blinded by the ability to bring on high level talent without any real vision for how all the pieces are going to fit together.

I'd also say they need to be able to identify, attract, and retain high level support personnel, from S&C, to the assistant staff, to support staff.

It would be helpful if they had a bit of huckster in them to fire up the fanbase, because we kind of need that as a fanbase.

I feel like what I just described is Chris Beard, without the girlfriend choking issues. So find someone like that.

I like Tommy Lloyd best, but he's not a huckster by any stretch of the imagination. He's a little dull to listen to a great deal of the time. But I really like him as the head of a program. I don't know who the realistic options are. But I trust CDC to go after the best option he has available to him, whoever that might be.

Big difference maker on the bench, that Jai.

Alabama is 2-4 in their last 6 games so that must mean Oats met with CDC in Opelousas around Valentine’s Day

Still too early to tell.

We'll know for sure when Bama makes the title game and Oats jumps all over a reporter for asking about the Texas job.

Because he’s a good nba coach

He's coaching a franchise that's treading water and has been treading water for their entire existence. He's never had a title-contending roster in the NBA. There don't appear to be any openings where he could be a part of something like that. He is making $8mil right now - Texas could make that happen.

The main roadblock would be what it would take financially for Texas to make that happen. Not what Quinn would entertain, imo.

Again - I posted it a couple pages back in this thread and no one bit - Texas is a better job than a lot of you think and Texas has more money to make a splash hire happen than a lot of you think.

There is a reason Quinn's name even came up. Like I said - y'all best start believing in coach stories.

who’s not anywhere close to winning anything for the foreseeable future. he could win big time at Texas, plus he’s already coached and lived in Austin before. right now he’s just spinning his wheels in atlanta, and at 58 years old he still has plenty of time to earn a lot of hardware and leave a legacy somewhere, but no so much time that he can afford to just keep farting around in atlanta doing nothing. the Texas job is one of the more appealing jobs in all of basketball, professional teams included. there’s no reason he shouldn’t be interested in the job unless he’s already decided that he has zero desire to come back to college.

The main reason I posted the Coaches Rumors tweet is that he is much more focused on college basketball than 99% of those out there pushing various rumor scenarios and potential options via teams sites or networks/pods. The fact that it he will even entertain the idea as a possibility tells me at least some sort of discussion has occurred, and it wasn't the classic agent shakedown.

I probably view it as a 70/30 against, but if talks have occurred, it does show that we may be shorting both who are viable targets and the CDC criteria for a basketball coach.

I'd rather have Donovan but I'd take Quinn in a heartbeat. Fantastic basketball mind.
