I mean I get that except Texas A&M has no basketball history. They’ve never been past the Sweet 16.

They’ve only been to 16 NCAA tournaments total. Texas has been to 37.

Buzz is…it. They’d be making an unprecedented move to tell a successful coach who is going to be a 3 seed to move on when they basically have no history.

Make no mistake about it, Beard wants out. He would take that job.

Why would A&M move on? Buzz is nothing special. He has a dogshit offense and can’t recruit elite players. He has piled up losses year after year and if he can’t make a run with this older group, what’s the point of retaining him?

Their last coach was more successful. Kennedy made 2 Sweet 16s and all Buzz has to his name right now is 1 NCAA tournament win over a program that's never won a NCAA tournament game (Nebraska).

Yet to be determined what happens this year in the tournament but Buzz has done almost nothing in the NCAA tournament so far in year 6 at aggy.

I thought Will Wade recently said no to NCST, or implied disinterest, because he wants a bigger job.

He's probably hoping Beard goes to Indiana this year or UNC/KU next year and he'd slide right in as the new resident slimy ass cheater at Ole Miss

I’m mean, do you have a connection to Beard to know he wants out? Of course he will probably put his name in the ring for several jobs because of his belief that he’s a great coach and deserves a bigger job and because Mississippi is a shit school and shit job.

Buzz is nothing special but neither is the A&M basketball history. He’s one of the top 3 most successful coaches in their 100+ year history. A&M doesn’t give a shit about men’s basketball, and their NIL shows it. They have 2 decent recruits coming in next year, one of them from fucking San Francisco (how do you go from San Francisco to Texas A&M, I will never know).

The rumors are Buzz wants out, which is odd because he fought like crazy to get that job. Either he forgot how crazy/delusional/racist those fans are or he isn’t getting exactly what he wants to be successful compared to other SEC programs.

the rumor earlier in the week was Wade was going after Clemson (his Alma mater) because Brownell was connected to the Indiana job.

Austin sports radio guys were saying this morning that Buzz hates Trev Alberts, as did Schloss.  Further flavor:  I didn't realize A&M couldn't land Skip Johnson to replace Schloss because of that very reason, too.  Alberts may turn out to be the most disastrous hire in A&M history, and that INCLUDES Jimbo.

I know nothing about Alberts’ personality outside of his stint on ESPN 20 years ago, but based on that alone-I can see it.

Texas:

  • Royal Ivey: can coach, would drive program support, but totally unproven at the college level.
  • Brad Underwood: meh.
  • Sean Miller: meh.
  • Todd Golden: seems like a decent HC given his short career, but also might be a sexual predator.
  • Will Wade: dirty as fuck, but the guy can coach. Unlikely we hire him.

Buzz wants out because like 6 of their top 7 players are seniors and gone after this season.

If they don't make the 2nd weekend this year, next year's roster will likely get him fired.

That makes sense, actually. A bad AD who doesn’t give you the support you need is a reason to leave a P4 job

Yeah, and he had Alberts shoved on him, several years after taking the job.

Gomer can never stand still. One moment they need Borjk to spend money and build a winner, hires Jimbo, gets run off. They decide to be frugal, hire Alberts,  lost Baseball coach, higher high school coach. Elko for football, if Buzz leaves, they ain't getting anything special in return.

I, too, prefer top tier coach via money whip off that list

Then Buzz has nothing to offer portal guys, which goes back to my assertion that A&M has nothing in terms of NIL for basketball. The probably have no idea how it even works.

Oh and Bjork gets a football natty under his resume the first year at OSU. I really want wiggy to succeed at Houston, the people they run off (except Sumlin and Fran) always do better elsewhere.

I've long thought Buzz is just an insanely good con man.

He had success at Marquette but in his last season they didn't make the tournament and there was massive attrition. Marquette was probably not going to make the tournament 2 years in a row under Buzz. He turned that into a long-term contract at Virginia Tech.

Then in 5 years at Virginia Tech, Buzz won a total of 2 tournament games. Yeah, Virginia Tech doesn't have rich basketball history but still. He then turned that into a long-term contract at A&M.

Now at A&M he has won 1 tournament game in year 6. He will probably somehow turn that into another long-term contract somewhere else with his entire roster departing after this season.

Fun fact:  15 years ago today Texas was tabbed an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament.  Earlier that year we were ranked #1 at 17-0, but finished the rest of the season 7-9.  Oh yeah, we lost in the 1st round to 9 seed Wake Forest.

Brad Underwood on that list from Trilly? The same Brad Underwood who left Oklahoma State after 1 year to get to his wife’s homeland of Illinois just for her?

I don’t know about that.

I would absolutely poach Golden.

Colt injury in the title game

Barnes collapse

TCU beat us in the Austin super for baseball

Texas softball lost their home regional as a top 8 seed

Yeah, a mid major like Shaka probably. And Shaka did that with 0 tournament wins at Texas lol

Read the thread. We aren’t the decision makers. Making the tournament isn’t going to just save his job - it didn’t for Pierce or Aston or Clark or winning a bowl for Tom

I have to believe the decision (to let him go or retain him) is already made. Save for a Sweet Sixteen run, he's likely gone.

However, if Texas makes the tournament and advances in any fashion, I'll believe it when I see it that a coach who wins a tournament game in every season of his tenure will be let go. Then again, if the upgrade is so obvious, I could be wrong.

I will say CDC had the nonverbal of “hurry up and end this” during the game yesterday…

I also think he’s been told this is it barring a miracle run in the tournament.

When Buzz gives College Station the double deuces - which sounds like it could be soon - this tweet will ascend to an eschelon of all-time freezing cold takes that we didn't even know existed. Reigning above all on a tier of its own.
