There is a screenshot floating around from Trilly Donovan's Discord (still not sure if this dude is to be trusted or not but he seems to be more right than wrong) that KD is really trying to push for Royal Ivey.

Wasn't there a conversation on here a month or two back about a lot of former players being in his corner and saying they are willing to provide $upport if he is hired?

I get this thought but I really think it all hinged on that elite eight "run".  My sense is CDC really didn't have the right guy on the hook but would have pressed if we bow out in the first or second round. And everyone that mattered liked RT and wanted to give him a chance.   The contract of 3M a year said it all though, as it was probably the lowest you could go and not look like it was a buyout waiting to happen.  I fully admit I am rationalizing hoping that CDC really didn't WANT to hire Terry.

I'm on the periphery of folks that are in the know and I have already heard the spend less on the coach and more on NIL since you have to reload every year anyway(and also add Toppin would have made a huge difference....right). I want to slap my forehead because that is the exact opposite of the situation.  you need a guy who can coach balls out, whip guys in to shape, and has a real implementation plan because he's going to be dealing with a new team every year(maybe 2).

It is more like the NBA than it has ever been.  Having a system and ability to integrate players into that system is going to be the most valuable commodity.  ISO is not a system, IMO.

I agree.  I thought getting to the sweet sixteen got him the job.   As in once he got there it was over

I didn’t mean to imply anything more than cosmic shit with how it worked out with Terry. There were some really deflated supporters when Beard fucked it all up. I don’t know how much folks were ready to immediately pour into the next guy.

TJ Ford has been rallying former players and pleading the case for Ivey for years now. The guy gave me the pitch at one point so I have heard it with my own ears. If Durant is doing anything along those lines, it’s derivative. I’m assuming someone in the discord is just passing the story off and getting names wrong.

if the program is going to be profitable then the one place you spend big is on the HC. you don’t hire a lesser and/or unproven guy and then financially support him with money for a whole new roster every year, you back up the brinks truck for a proven commodity who portends to be winning at a high level at Texas for 1-2 decades if not more. you don’t win in cbb with NIL money, you win with bill self, dan hurley, billy donovan, jay wright, or coach k as your HC.

CTJ addressed it but yeah. That ship has sailed though.

Or KD….you can stop pushing Royal and do something similar to what Steph is going to do with Davidson.

YES. NIL ambassador / assistant GM type of deal. His mini-me plays for Vic already

My basketball soul is so crumpled up by the RT era that I would gladly take Royal Ivey.  It can't possibly result in worse basketball, can it?

I almost don't care.  If these are "the good old days", then shoot me.

KD has a poor track record of picking coaches.

Can Duane Akina coach basketball

I bet the defense would improve and Texas would primarily be using a man-to-man technique.

He was a quarterback in college at Washington, he might know something about offense and play calling.

He loves to recruit and still very spunky for his age.

I have never seen him wearing glasses either, except for some cool shades, doubt he would wear those indoors.

I think he would love the challenge.

I'd be okay with Few.

mainly just bustin' your balls.  honestly I wouldn't be crazy jazzed with Few mainly because it COULD be perceived as a little bit like a late era money grab(even though he obviously isn't driven by money) but the guy can still coach and has an eye for talent(Moar shooters please!) IMO.

He's already done the HCIW apparently so he's either done or he's just willing to let another guy have a shot.  that kind of thing isn't really a great sign.

He'd be the splash hire though.

This is way more Beard's and CDC's fault.  I don't blame RT in the least.  Even though we knew how it would likely end we offered him the contract.  Good on RT.  I never felt he didn't do everything but the best he could and no stupid platitude shit.  Take that University money, you earned it.

As they say, timing is everything.

At least we’d play defense.  I’d feel good about rooting for an alum like Ivey too.

I know. Just clarifying my position. Few would be a good hire I would just have a couple reservations. Same if we hired Self, honestly. But I don't see that happening.

The name I heard two months ago, from a very circuitous route, which we would all be quite happy with, fits Gerry’s criteria. Now I’m getting interested.

I think you greatly exaggerate this board's ability to agree on anything.

Maybe we could reassign RT to be equipment manager for football.

Did you see those ugly polos he picked out to start the season? No thanks

I do think the conference pitch now means something. When the last realignment carousel stopped everyone thought the Big 12 would be a total buzzsaw and the best league. But that’s not the case.

Is this where I go “SEC! SEC!”?

NBA assistant >> college HC is getting big. I guess it’s more attractive now that recruiting has been simplified to managing a payroll

Former players vs donors has way more comedic potential as a bmd dynamic than Dallas vs Houston

I'll throw something else out there. What if the plane never came back to ground but instead kept climbing, to the point it left earth's atmosphere? I know that a space shuttle has insane amounts of thrust/force/speed to get off the ground and into space, but could a plane, already traveling at 40,000 feet doing 500+mph pull the nose up and just keep going? What if that plane was so fucking high that it just left the gravitational pull of the earth???!?

CDC: “we want to be top 10 in every sport. that’s the standard………..unless it costs money to hire elite coaches, and in that case we’re not really interested in being good, or winning, or filling that $375m basketball arena we just built.”

yeah, because that makes sense. so on the one hand you’ve got chris del conte who has stated in no uncertain terms what our athletic goals are, backing it up with elite hires across the board, not to mention a $375 million dollar basketball arena, and then on the other hand you’ve got gerry fucking hamilton, who knows fuck all about anything, saying that a $5m buyout is too rich for our blood.

gee, just a really tough call on who to believe.

Well we didn’t pay for the arena just the land that it is built on

Like anybody could even answer that question without information on the treadmills whereabouts.

LOL sorry that post was supposed to go in Derka's "what if" thread but I guess I clicked the wrong thread
