Do us all a favor and tone the posting down.

I expect to encounter headwinds here, but I'd rather go after Pat Kelsey at Louisville than Sean Miller.  It won't happen for several reasons, among them not enough P4 experience and not being shiny enough for the BMDs, but he's a better coach than Miller.

Nah I love comments like this. Expands the potential field and calls into question the established "names".

Anyone that thinks that Billy Donovan wouldn't walk into Austin and immediately start terrorizing the SEC is out of their fucking minds.

IT with a non-update update

Spoiler

I don't have anything brand new to add but I will summarize what we've already stated.

Texas did not want it to get to this point with Rodney Terry. As IT reported weeks ago, CDC felt the carousel would have more quality candidates a year from now. Even this week, Texas was hoping Terry could make a good enough run to justify bringing him back. Sneaking into the "tournament" and then giving up a lead to Sean Miller and Xavier is not a "good enough run."

That doesn't mean they haven't been prepping for this moment. This was the most logical conclusion for the last few weeks, after all.

What we know, is, Texas does not want to pay a big buyout for a new coach. Parting with Terry will cost around $5.5 million alone.

I have no idea which direction the search will go. They have been in fact finding mode trying to gauge interest. They are of course aiming very high to see what's tangible but that doesn't guarantee the hire will be a big name.

With Texas out of the tournament, real discussions will begin to take place with representatives of the top guys.

That is such fucking horseshit.

God I hate these guys.

CDC knows what he's doing and is about to act accordingly.

My point isn't necessarily to dress up a Sean Miller hire as "could be awesome". It's that if it happens, it's another data point that when we have to hire a coach in a sport that the entire college athletics world invests in, it's suddenly not so easy to get a "home run hire", even with CDC at the helm with Texas resources.

but it is!

ok so it was an unintentionally funny post. i’d love to have mark few, but you might want to go look at billy donovan’s wikipedia in the meantime, and realize why your post about tourney success was so funny.

I dug a little bit. I may have more tomorrow.

From someone that is very plugged into Texas basketball and basketball at that level in general:

- Will Wade is a fan (player) favorite. My guy thinks he "would have been great" at Texas. Curious to see how he does at NC State.

- He isn't buying the Sean Miller shit. "That's just buzz" to quote.

again, i like both guys and would be thrilled with few if he wants the job. i’m just saying that billy donovan went 12-0 in the tourney in 06 and 07, which makes your response to the post about him funny, and which makes him a home run hire were CDC able to pull it off.

Better offensive coaching likely coming. RT's iso ball and lack of coaching late in last 4mins killed Texas vs Xavier.

Texas wont touch him.

On June 22, Wade was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2023–24 seasonand was given a 2-year show-cause penalty for his recruiting and bribery violations at LSU.[13]

Yeah - thanks. I know who Will Wade is.

The point is that he is thought of very highly across the landscape and is apparently a guy that players will sign up to play for.

We need a cemetery watch posted for the cities  where the rumored   coaches are currently working or the NCAA tourney hosts.   I’d say the perimeter needs to be 50  to 100 miles from the center of such location.     Flight aware  watchers need to be activated along with a special order of McRibs to pass time.

But I agree his resume is worthy of consideration.

The next Texas basketball coach: Make your pick

While we wait for official word to trickle out on the future of Rodney Terry, I ask the OTF community a few very important questions.

What are you looking for in the next basketball coach at the University of Texas? The criteria?

And how would you rank the list of names below...

The criteria ...

What does the fan base want to see. Some potential categories...

Age range
Personality
Length of head coaching experience
Resume of accomplishments
Offensive style
NBA level talent recruited throughout career
Or NBA assistant coach/outside the box hire

Rank this list or use this as your suggestion box ...

Sean Miller, Xavier

Brad Brownell, Clemson

TJ Otzelberger, Iowa State

Greg McDermott, Creighton

Mick Cronin, UCLA

Brad Underwood, Illinois

Ryan Odom, VCU

Ben McCollum, Drake

Kevin Willard, Maryland

Richard Pitino, New Mexico

Chris Jans, Mississippi State

Royal Ivey, Houston Rockets

For the dreamers ...

Rank in terms of preference as you drift off into dreamland.

Rick Pitino, 72, St. John’s

Bill Self, 62, Kansas

Mark Few, 62, Gonzaga

Scott Drew, 54, Baylor

John Calipari, 66, Arkansas

Jay Wright, 63, retired now on TV

Quin Snyder, 58, Atlanta Hawks

Billy Donovan, 59, Chicago Bulls

FWIW, Gerry said on this livestream that he’d be very happy with Sean Miller. Great offensive coach who could bring in a lot of international talent.

I just thought it was an interesting note. Not advocating for him to take over at Texas - but the fact that that was the first name that my guy brought up was something.

Wouldn't be surprised if he crushes it at NCST.

Not sure he’d work with all the NIL stuff, but I always had Brad Stevens on the short list the previous times this job came open.

Do you know what Brad Stevens does for a living?

Sean Miller is a coach on the downward slope of his career. Would be a fucking stupid hire.

Why not just get Joe Mazzulla to coach and Brad Stevens can be his “GM”?  They seem gettable with that struggling Celtics team.

Spoelstra can run the offense.

I think he’s happy being the best GM in the nba
