I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'd like to see Greg McDermott in burnt orange!  His teams actually run plays and he seems to get the most from his players.  He's been in the Big East for a number of years and Creighton has recruited some quality players.

UT had a top 10 pick, he wasn't playing 'set plays'

I tend to think of it as a combination of more alcohol than wise, and poor choice in female companionship. Well, long-term female companionship. I mean, "Randi" is right next to "Tiffany" on the Hot/Crazy Matrix.

I know people in Chris's circle.  They definitely thought Randi could ruin him.  I don't believe Chris was drinking that night.  I'd bet Randi may have been !!!

Is he officially fired? We know he is going to be but no one else but chip has really reported it. CDC usually has someone lined up already but anybody we would want would be in the tournament I assume so surprised about this early of a firing.

This feels like it could be a Pierce type situation, where he knows he’s fired but we won’t know officially until CDC has his guy

But Goodman made it seem like the firing is gonna happen first

I saw him at Home Depot picking up some boxes.

Hi Rodney!

If Jeff Goodman is reporting it, then yes, you’re fired.

Can somebody explain why some are so negative about Sean Miller?

The only time he's struggled is at the end of his Arizona tenure when they were in hot water with the NCAA (his doing of course). His floor is NCAA tournament caliber teams and with Arizona-type talent he can probably get you to some Elite 8s/further.

Ramp up NIL with Sean Miller seems far from a bad hire.

He's a floor hire.

Which, if its down to keeping RT or hiring Miller, I am fine with Miller + NIL.

I just think we can do better.

Maybe but man I don't see it just as a "floor" hire.

Miller has made 4 elite 8s and the second weekend 7 times. He's more than capable of being more than a "floor" hire with talent.

I'm trying to think of a football equivalent. James Franklin? He'd win games here for sure, but would be met with a big meh.

Lulz, hiring James Franklin would be met with a whole lot more than a big meh.

Hey before Beard came to Texas he was unproven at Little Rock and smaller schools and took Tech to a final four.

sometimes a gamble could be worth the risk

I would love Jay Wright also

So let Little Rock hire Ivey. The fuck is wrong with you?

I don’t think Beard did much wrong that night. He made the grave error of ever engaging that crazy chick who isn’t that hot anyway.

I think Miller is a good coach.

Xavier had not made the tournament in 4 years prior to Miller. They were dogshit. Also, Miller would be a much more sexier pick if not for devastating injuries over the last couple of years.

Last year's Xavier team was probably a 2nd weekend team if not for Freemantle's season-ending injury. This year's Xavier team would have likely been a top-25 caliber team if not for Traore's season ending injury. They've had some terrible injury luck.

I don’t see a great deal of difference between Beard and Miller. Miller is a massive upgrade over Terry. Massive.

That's really the thing.

If the coach is an upgrade over RT - I'm happy.

And CDC has some leeway with this hire, considering his other non-RT hires.

But man, the candidates that are an upgrade over RT is a long fucking list.

I don't know about football but I view Sean Miller much like Rick Barnes. Based purely on resume, not style of play.

Will always have good teams but can he maximize that into final 4 caliber teams? Not sure, but I think we could do much worse. Ramping up NIL with Sean Miller seems far from a bad hire.

I don't mean it in a bad way, just on the scale of "competent upgrade over RT who will win games" and "sexy fucking hire of a big name, like Oates or Donovan", he's in the former category.  And that's fine, because Texas needs a competent upgrade.

On Texas Football continues to maintain that basketball coach Rodney Terry has coached his last game at Texas despite reports that there is a remote possibility that Terry could still keep his job.

There are many things to consider as we wait for resolution.

But first and foremost is the modus operandi of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and the timing of how how he fires and hires coaches.

For example, consider the timing of CDC's hirings of the two highest profile coaches at Texas - Steve Sarkisian and Jim Schlossnagle.

Tom Herman was officially fired on Jan. 2, 2021. Steve Sarkisian was hired later that same day, on Jan. 2, 2021.

As for Schlossnagle, previous Texas baseball coach David Pierce was informed he would not be retained on June 24, 2024. Just one day later, Schlossnagle was hired, on June 25.

In other words, during high-profile hirings, Del Conte's m.o. is crystal clear. He likes to do things cleanly, moving from one head coach to another with immediacy. As one source put it, CDC and Texas do not want to do anything considered merely "patchwork". They want a replacement ready to go prior to releasing the other head coach.

A different source told us much the same thing, that "Rodney Terry is the head coach until he's not the head coach."

So where does that leave us with potential replacements?

One source said Atlanta Hawks coach Quinn Snyder recently told Texas that he had no interest in returning to the college game. OTF has also been told that a lack of prolonged head coaching experience will be hard to overcome for Texas-Ex Royal Ivey, who is currently an assistant with the Houston Rockets.

Names thought to be under consideration and potentially attainable include Sean Miller of Xavier and Tommy Lloyd of Arizona. There is a long list of even higher profile coaches Texas will likely inquire through agents, too.

Oh, give it a rest. It was a singular situation.

If Texas continues to be concerned with how the press and other outsiders might view a basketball hire, if said hire is consistent with the Texas brand, or if it is a grand enough hire, then it’s has the potential to be a recurring situation. If a smart, young coach, has a demonstrated ability to construct a roster in an unstable environment, to lead that roster through the required forming, storming, norm ing and performing in short order, and then coach that roster to sustained success, that coach deserves serious consideration and should not be dismissed out of hand because he’s not a household name.

Nice of us to give him a raise? We've been hearing his name constantly the last couple of months.

Chip has been telling people it’s Miller. I personally didn’t buy it. If he actually is now mentioned Hurley, I find that interesting, because that’s the name I heard months ago.

Why would you want to coach LeBron knowing that you have no control over the locker room, personnel, and if he wants you fired, you're fired.

Only making it out of the first round 5 out of 12 seasons is pretty underwhelming when he was able to hand Adidas a shopping list of recruits

The only coach I've seen mentioned that I view as a for sure upgrade over Sean Miller is Oates.

Donovan is probably a better coach than Miller but he also hasn't been around the college game in over a decade. I would have some apprehension with Donovan knowing how to navigate NIL and other parts of recruiting. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

I guess my biggest point is I bet people on this board would view Lloyd as a much better hire than Sean Miller which seems wild to me. Miller has accomplished much more.

Wouldn't you just hire a GM with Donovan to handle that?

Kind of like he would be able to do with NIL at Texas if we prioritized it?

Texas fans would take 3 Elite 8s, 5 2nd weekend appearances, and 5 conference championships in a heartbeat. Please give us the results that Miller produced at Arizona.

Lloyd has similar red flags with a smaller NCAA tournament resume - he's been a #1 seed once and a #2 seed twice and failed to get past the Sweet 16.  The loss to a #15 seed in the 1st round is especially egregious.
