I imagine it's challenging being a football diva when you don't have the talent to back it up.

I never understood how someone so bad could be given so many chances. And with no expectation that he has to improve his attitude.

"rebuild?" I'm not expecting a playoff run in 2021, but I can't really get behind the notion that this staff is facing a rebuild. There's plenty of talent on the roster to go with a forgivable schedule. If they're not 10wins+ after the bowl game, "7 Win Steve" will be feeding the fires around his so far well-earned nickname. Dude's getting paid $5+ and his staff's getting another $5+ in the Big 12. They need to be putting a lot of W's up in 2021 and building on it.

I don't care how much talent there is on the team. If the DL and OL don't have it, you're going to have it tough. On the other hand, you can be pretty mediocre and win it all with a great line...call it the '91 Redskins Rule.

Take a look at 2015. I highlighted our top four in terms of production. John Burt led us in yardage and TDs with some pretty big numbers.

"Both are still processing what the coaches are asking them to do. The good news is that both guys look the part. Each have had moments and each have had a few moments they'd want to take back. I'm not sure the real battle has truly started yet, but maybe that will change this week."

Has there ever been a more 9.95 garbage tidbit of “intel” ever written?

*** The source said the OL is certainly a work in progress, though this is how the first two groups looked this morning.

First Group OL:

LT – Christian Jones
LG – Denzel Okafor
C – Jake Majors
RG – Junior Angilau
RT – Andrej Karic
Second Group OL:

LT – Jaylen Garth
LG – Rafiti Ghirmai
C – Logan Parr
RG – Hayden Conner
RT – Isaiah Hookfin

Where is Tyler Johnson and how is he not in the discussion yet?

Texas likely wins 9-10 games last year without Covid cancelling 3 games against really bad teams in LSU, KU, and Rice. Granted even with a full schedule Herman still would have found a way to get fired, but let's not pretend that 10 wins isn't the floor for this team.

As a former Redskins fan, I did not think they had mediocre talent. But for a pre-salary cap SB winner, it was.

Receivers were great. Then on defense Wilbur Marshall and Darrell Green were incredible. But that was pretty much it - Charles Mann, maybe. Gibbs was a damn good coach.

I'm thinking mostly of Mark Rypien, here.

That OL made him look a LOT better than he was.

FCB insider notes (grain of salt, etc.)

Spoiler

— Talked to a few team sources about the Longhorns' fifth spring football practice - and first full-pads practice - on Tuesday. Here's what they said:

Casey Thompson was the first quarterback to get first-team reps, but Hudson Card is also getting reps with the first team - just as Steve Sarkisian has said will be the case throughout the spring.

Redshirt freshman 6-foot-3, 230-pound receiver Troy Omeire, who has been recovering from his torn ACL suffered last fall camp, was in full pads, running routes and catching passes, but isn't taking part in contact drills.

Receiver Jordan Whittington and Omeire are the only receivers who drew any praise from sources. In fact, sources said more receivers, such as Marcus Washington and Kelvontay Dixon, need to come on.

Receiver Joshua Moore, who was out sick (non-COVID-19, according to sources) for a few of the first spring practices, was back on the field in full pads on Tuesday.

The first-team offensive line for most of practice Tuesday was: Christian Jones at left tackle, Denzel Okafor at left guard, Jake Majors at center, Junior Angilau at right guard and Andrej Karic at right tackle.

The second-team offensive line was: Redshirt freshman Jaylen Garth at left tackle, Tyler Johnson at left guard, Rafiti Ghirmai at center, freshman Hayden Conner at right guard and sophomore Isaiah Hookfin at right tackle.

On defense, LSU graduate transfer Ray Thornton is getting the first-team reps at Jack — the outside linebacker position manned by Joseph Ossai last season — and Thornton also wears No. 46 (Ossai's number last season).

Sophomore Jaylan Ford is getting most of the first-team reps at middle linebacker, while David Gbenda is getting first-team reps at weakside linebacker, where DeMarvion Overshown played last season (but is not taking part in spring ball after having shoulder surgery). Marcus Tillman is also getting some first-team reps at middle linebacker.

Chris Adimora got most of the first-team reps at nickel with Anthony Cook also getting some first-team reps at that position.

B.J. Foster and Jerrin Thompson got most of the first-team reps at safety with Brenden Schooler and Tyler Owens backing them up. But early enrollee freshman JD Coffey is getting some second-team reps at safety as well as Marques Caldwell.

Josh Thompson and D'Shawn Jamison are getting the first reps with the first-team defense at cornerback, but McNeese State graduate transfer Darion Dunn and early enrollee freshman Jamier Johnson are getting some reps with the first team as well. Kitan Crawford and Jahdae Barron are getting some second-team reps but also a lot of third-team reps because the competition is fierce at corner, sources said.

With T'Vondre Sweat out, Vernon Broughton is getting some reps with the first-team defensive line along with Keondre Coburn, Alfred Collins and Jacoby Jones. Moro Ojomo and Jones are working at defensive end.

IT practice notes

Spoiler

By: Eric and Justin

These stem from Tuesday. Today was a lift and meeting day as the team rests up for a three-day practice stretch from Thursday to Saturday.

*The majority of the team got its first set of vaccinations on Tuesday. The second dose will be administered after spring ball is done. They’ll pad up again on Thursday, likely with minimal side effects.

*The tone of practice was set early with the Oklahoma drill.

*Jordan Whittington continues to pace the receivers. He’s really physical which is required to go up against this group of DBs. He’s been working both inside and outside.

*Practice was heavy on the run with Bijan and Roschon splitting carries.

*Cade Brewer is looking solid and continues to run with the 1s.

*Right tackle is in really good shape. Isaiah Hookfin is a worker getting better by the rep. His athleticism shows, he just needs to keep working on the technical side. Andrej Karic is still the main #1 on the right side.

*When asked which o-lineman are the most ready to play tomorrow if need be: “Karic, Angilau, Okafor, and probably Jones.” We haven’t mentioned Okafor much this spring but we should probably start paying closer attention. “Him being a veteran shows; good awareness out there.”

*Logan Parr is running with 2s at center along with Rafiti Ghirmai. Ghrimai has run with the 1s recently but we don’t think that’s indicative of Jake Majors struggling. This staff will give players opportunity to show what they can do. Ghirmai has some ability and could play guard this year if need be.

*Checked in on Jaylen Garth: “Athletic in pass pro, has some strength to him, needs to be more aggressive and keep getting stronger.”

*Alfred Collins is already a stud but Vernon Broughton is coming along. Strong and versatile. Those two will play side by side some this year.

*That said, on Broughton, true freshman Hayden Conner had some good reps versus him recently. Conner has worked at both right tackle and right guard. He even had some reps with the first team at guard. It’s too early to say he’s impressing but he’s raised some eyebrows.

*Ray Thornton is beginning to turn heads. He’s had sacks against any OT they throw at him. Hard worker, vocal leader, and already on the team leadership council we mentioned recently. Jacoby Jones has also caused his share of disruption. You guys know the drill, it’s hard to know who is playing well and who is benefiting from going up against inferior competition.

*Darion Dunn and Kitan Crawford get better each practice but on Tuesday Jahdae Barron and Jamier Johnson rotated a lot with the twos. Barron had a couple PBUs on Tuesday. These guys are dudes, too, and all of a sudden 2022 cornerback play isn’t looking as dire as it did a few weeks ago. Land some 2022 elites and they’ll be fine at corner the season after next.

*BJ Foster had a pick.

*Chris Adimora seems to be ahead of Anthony Cook at nickel, though again, nothing is set anywhere.

*They worked some base defense which put true freshman Terrance Cooks out there at Sam linebacker. He’s an athletic blitzer.

Going off the shaky premise that FCB knows what the fuck he's talking about: A fresh start with a new coaching staff, injuries creating 1st team opportunities, and wr friendly offense set this spring up perfectly for Washington to finally break out. I had really high expectations for him but we are getting close to the point where it is just not going to happen if things don't start clicking soon.

Johnson already running ahead of Kitan Crawford would be pretty surprising.
