How come they can't approach our level of stealth technology so as to stay out of the Weekly World News?

Are you saying they became all being masters of time, space and dimension.   And you want to know why of all the wild and crazy things, those jerks wanted to go to Europe?

I like how we have a pretty strong fundamental understanding of physics at this point through our standard model of particle physics with a pretty sound understanding of Gravity at scale that match all observational evidence for the last 100 years (and a growing understanding of gravity at quantum levels). Yet we think a magical race of aliens can modify the laws of physics to their whim with untold energy sources available through human-sized aircraft.

I'm in the nay camp. There's a rational explanation for all of this that does not involve aliens or Steel Shanks "long" member...

In seriousness, there are pretty robust and well-resourced unclassified and non-government programs dedicated specifically to searching for evidence of extraterrestrial life and intelligence. The fact that it’s never those guys that find them, it’s always t people who have to keep secrets or people who aren’t systematically looking for them that see them…..is a pretty strong argument against visitors.

I’m in the nay camp too, but I must have been napping when we made an advance significant enough to qualify as a “growing understanding” of quantum gravity.

Do we?

I would say we don't, to keep it in mathematics perspective, I would bet we are closer to second/third graders who are just learning multiplication then we are to AP high school classes on calculous/trig and that's not even advanced mathematics. We've only been flying for a little over 100 years, this isn't meant to take anything away from Einstein Hawking or any other great physicist but in the grand scheme of the universe, we are children.

I do believe there is intelligent life out there and I also believe we have been visited but if we the US have had possession of an alien spacecraft for the past 80 years, we better have reversed engineered some bad ass tech from it.

quantum field theory.. I said it's growing... :)

Edit: my IQ is insufficient to really go deeper than this... Mindscape podcast with Sean Carroll is a pretty good source of info lol.

Yeah, I hear ya. But weren't we hoping the large hadron collider would break our understanding of physics but instead it's pretty much affirmed what we know? I think we have a pretty good theoretical understanding of the universe that matches observations. I would bet alien civilizations have as much difficulty funding their NASAs as we do.. instead promoting social causes, military spending, etc... I don't think advanced civilizations last millions of years... I bet they only last a few thousand. And that's not enough time to populate the galaxy due to extreme distances and limits on light speed, etc.

I still think if we are visited, it'll be by some probe that was launched thousands of years ago, operating off advanced AI, without aliens onboard, by some race that went extinct long ago.

I think our knowledge of physics on the grand scheme of things is so elementary that we’re not even close to knowing what we don’t know.

One way of looking at Newton’s explanation of gravity is to say he got it mostly right. Another is to say he wasn’t even close.

To me, saying we’re close to theory of everything, if only we could reconcile general relativity and quantum mechanics, is like saying Ptolemy was close to a theory of everything, he just had to work out that pesky retrograde motion.

(Presumptions abound below - I am speaking on what I personally believe having pored over this stuff for years)

The craft that they fly works basically by bending gravity around it to generate propulsion. So they sort of "fall" through or are pulled through space - like you had a huge vacuum in front of a speck of dust that stayed in front of the speck the entire time.

This is in contrast to the propulsion we have developed that pushes the craft in question.

It would stand to reason they can travel FTL. If they are from another planet/galaxy in our universe they would almost assuredly have to.

What typically fucks their shit up (reportedly) is lightning. They can be extremely advanced in ways beyond our comprehension - yet fairly similarly advanced in other ways.

Imagine human tech as a radial chart like this:

images(6).jpeg.46df0cca47e6f4774dae9d11c937d980.jpeg

They would have their own radial chart. In some directions they may blow us out of the fucking water. In others - like navigating alien planets flawlessly or withstanding the absolutely obscene power that comes from lightning strikes - they could be fairly comparable to us. In fact - earth lightning could potentially fuck their shit up way worse than it does to stuff like airplanes. Maybe they don't have lightning where they're from.

Assuming that they are omnipotent, flawless, masters of the universe just because they have tech that we don't is silly. A dolphin is much, much smarter than a bluefin tuna. But that tuna is stronger and can swim faster.

Also - thanks for the discussion, all. This is a fun thread. I don't think I'm right about everything - I entertain the idea that I'm wrong about a lot of it - and I don't want to make anyone feel like I'm demeaning their ideas or theories. But this is something I'm very, very passionate about and as such I am very well versed and researched.

I lean in the direction that aliens have NOT visited earth, but if they had, I think a simple answer to your question is that interstellar travel takes a very long time.

Suppose they originally sent visitors to scout Earth 100 years ago. Whatever tech they had in 1923 would have been easily able to evade our detection capabilities at that time. Our tech significantly improved over the past 100 years, and the aliens would not be able to instantly upgrade their hardware over a distance of light years to counter the advances we made. It could take them hundreds or thousands of years to send new shit here.

Or maybe it’s not a priority for them at all because they’ve long since found more important stuff to focus on, and they’re fine leaving their old shit here to confuse us, because honestly, wtf are we gonna do? Go after them?

But again, I’m in the camp that aliens exist somewhere in the universe but probably not anywhere near us.

Proxima centauri is less than five light years away and believed to have habitable planets. Assuming they have technology to travel at close to light speed, it wouldn't be a stretch for an life there to have made multiple trips back and forth.

I’m curious, has anyone here had any personal UFO/UAP experiences here?  I have.   Back in 1980, when I was 10.  I saw something completely inexplicable from our porch about an hour before dawn.  Completely inexplicable until 2011 when I saw my first civilian drone.

Sorry, I’m pretty sure you believers didn’t get abducted by Aliens and and anal probed.  It’s far more likely you just got roofied at a gay bar.

Sure, but that assumes that:
A) the aliens came from the next closest solar system
B) they are traveling close to light speed

We have no idea if either of those are true. It’s equally possible they come from farther away and travel slower, which could easily explain why their tech doesn’t update quickly to match our tech.

Maybe they do and reserve it for their fighter crafts similar to how we do. We have aircraft with stealth capabilities but none of our interstellar crafts do. We have lots of shit zooming through outer space and we didn't think it was necessary to hide them.

As a preface, I'm pretty convinced that the crafts spotted by pilots have terrestrial explanations and that the whistlebower's claims will be debunked with investigation. But to address your question....

Think about the steps of the Drake equation. We should expect that habitable planets are more common than planets with life, planets with life are more common than planets with intelligent life, and, probably, planets with intelligent life are more common than planets with intelligent life and the capability to detect and shoot down spacecraft.

So assume that an intelligent civilization studies star systems like we do -- detects exoplanets and does spectral analyses to look for chemical signatures consistent with life -- and then sends scouts out to explore interesting planets. They may do this for thousands of years or longer without ever encountering planets in that last category -- where intelligent life could detect and shoot down their crafts. In that case, it would be logical for the crafts not be equipped with stealth tech... because why would they need it?

I think the real discussion to be had here is not about little green men visiting from space, but what it means that someone on earth possesses a technology with potential military application that supersedes our own.  We haven't been in that position in a long time, and our superpower status and interventionist policies since the end of WWII have put a target on our back.  It is probably imperative to understand what these things are to find potential counters and get back to technological parity if not dominance.

I don't see this as legit... European powers don't spend enough, Russia is clueless and bankrupt half the time, and China only has what we developed, albeit like 2 months after we develop it...

I think this is all misdirection from the US... hiding in plain site new tech.

Ruskis aren't the clueless ones.  It's the Chinese who are clueless and that's why they have to steal it.  Designing super advanced tech requires creativity to complement the pure technical stuff.  Russians are a very artistic, creative, and poetic people.  Chinese are not.  They aren't allowed to be.  Both Commies but creative expression is at least still highly encouraged and valued in Russian culture.  In China creativity (not thinking like everyone else) is viewed as a potential threat.
