CDC better make sure there's plenty of security on hand.

This game feels like it will be a real battle and a larger number of Tech fans than normal in Austin is only gonna add to fuel to the fire... 🔥🔥🔥

$25K?  Ha...fucking rubes.  We can make that up on souvenir Bon Jovi hair mousse sales next month alone!

I think Texas is about a top 12 to 18 team right now.  Which considering what he inherited is a fucking fantastic coaching job

We were penciled in to finish dead last in the conference before Beard.

It wouldn't surprise me if those are tickets Tech fan bought from Lubbock, never intending to go.  just depends if they want to eat them to have less Texas fans in the building.

Beard said today no student will be turned away who wants to go to the Tech game. Got some quote tweets of (near) approval from both CDC and Hartzell.

I didn't pick up on this for some reason. I don't know why I was thinking of the Baylor game, when obviously that's going to be in Waco. Tech is the next home game.

Look guys, this is fucking hilarious. There was a minor controversy covered by the local Lubbock news for the Texas game because Tech officials guaranteed students would be able to make it into the game, told them where to go to wait and at what time (several hours before tip off) and then DIDN'T LET THEM INTO THE GAME!

There is zero doubt in my mind there's a bit of institutional flexing going on here, with a subtle dig at his former employer.

If someone can hand KU a loss Texas would technically control its destiny for the B12 title.

I think it's very unlikely Texas finishes undefeated but it could happen I guess.

no it can't. nobody in this league is running the table, and i wouldn't be surprised if 8 or 9 teams lose two.

Kevin Garnett on line 1 for your bitchass.

Fuck that KSU loss. We'd be right there at the top. Baylor isn't playing well right now, so if we somehow win this weekend, you can expect a hug leap in the polls, likely 8+ spots.

That KSU loss PISSES ME OFF so much.

In my mind, trying to chalk that up to the typical mid-season, WTF, wake-up call loss. Since then, no doubt they’ve been playing with a sense of urgency. 5-1 with 3 wins over ranked teams. If the by-product of that loss was the nice run they just had…I’ll take it.

You're right.  Since that game, we went on a nice tear defensively -

66 given up to KSU, followed by: 51, 50, 51, 64 (at Tech), 41, 76 (to KU)

I'm still just so salty about giving that game away.  65-60 with 3:32 left and we never scored again, including Timmy's 2 missed FT.

That’s also just how CBB goes. Teams are inconsistent and they’re way more likely to win some they shouldn’t and lose some they shouldn’t than they are to go chalk the whole way through.

I think the main thing is keeping the WTF losses to a minimum, which we have so far and TCU at home is really the only one remaining.

I should say, that KSU loss may have given this team a good learning opportunity on how to close out games by hitting your FTs late - we followed it up with closing out the Tenn game after blowing a huge lead (TA hitting a FT with 6 seconds left to give us the lead) and then KU (Carr hitting the 2 FT with 6 seconds left).

Oh no not UNI again. Not liked we’d actually see Shaka in round 2 😂

ha.  we are in everyone's heads so bad.  20 different places you could put marquette and they chose to have us and them in round 2.  I bet every bracket prediction will have us facing marquette 2nd round and the NCAA will make it so if at all possible.

quick poll, just to see where everyone's head is at:

would you rather Shaka lose to Chattanooga in round one, or have Texas beat Marquette in round 2? with no other context, give me a one-and-done for Marquette all day. i never want to see Shaka win a tourney game after spending six years here with no wins.

that said, it would be hilarious if we met them in round 2 and Marquette was up like 43-21 at half time, only us to storm back and win 63-62. that, for me, would just be perfect.

I would rather avoid stupid NCAA/media manufactured drama for ratings and the incessant discussion about Shaka and Texas for clicks.  no upside at all for us.

Id rather he be in a totally different portion of the bracket or lose to his first round opponent.

1. Fuck Shaka, it don't make a shit

2. Fuck the committee/ESPN/media trying to make the tournament into a soap opera with manufactured drama and storylines

3. If we did face Shaka, IT DONT MAKE A SHIT.  Until he wins an NCAAT for the first time since 2013, he ain't gonna

If the NCAA somehow needs Texas to face Shaka Smart to drive ratings during MARCH MADNESS, it has a much bigger problem.

As a fan I would covet the chance for this Longhorn team to face a Shaka coached team. I don't see how anyone who has followed the Longhorns the past 6 years could feel any different.

To me, Shaka is like the girlfriend you thought was gonna be long-term but ultimately it just turned out way worse than you could have imagined, so you cut bait.

Never in my life have I given a tinker's damn what a former girlfriend did, who she dated, etc.  Hell, that's even true for my only former wife.  It just doesn't matter.

I think this Texas team would turn Marquette into a 45-point scoring girls team.  (No offense to girls teams.)

To me he's like the con man who started dating your sister, moved in with her and her kid, got her to ignore the kid, got her to start using again, pilfered her bank account, and then ran his mouth about how she wasn't shit as the police finally escorted him out six years later. so we see things a tad bit differently in this case.

My vote would be for us to face them in the second round. We would be down by 5 at half time and Beard wouldn't be able to come back in the second half because Texas Tech fans bombarded the hallway to the lockerroom and he can't safely leave. As it turns out, we are in the same location for games as Tennessee. After some discussion with the refs, Rick Barnes agrees to step in and coach us. As the final seconds tick of the clock, Barnes is licking his lips at the scoreboard showing Texas down by 32 with our starting 5 somehow already transferred to Miami. Tom Penders from the third row, stands up with a handle of vodka in one hand and a desert eagle in the other. He looks down at both, lifts up the Stolichnaya for one last swig, then lifts the gun to Barnes and Shaka as they shake hands and shoots them both in the head, only to turn the gun on himself next. Beard walks out on the court looking up at the student section with a tear in his eyes and simply says....

"Thanks for coming."
