You guys acting like Meyers was a finished product coming out of spring. He hadn't been anything special in the Minors (2017-2019) and didn't play at all last year. He needed a half year of AAA pitching and he has mashed. Straw, even with his hot June, is still 13% worse than an average MLB hitter. He's also been horrible in July (.234/.310/.297/.607).

how many teams chasing us traded a starter to start an unproven rookie ?

if leon hadn't broke his hand, he would have been the call up

Probably. Still though, Straw was easily the most replaceable player on the team, and you addressed a real concern with a guy that strikes people out.

Yeah those of you wringing your hands about Straw need to relax. He’s a JAG. I agree that it’s an odd move for a pennant run, and I can only assume a Buxton deal was discussed until the last possible moment, but he ain’t gonna be missed that much. It would be like missing Willy Taveras.

I have been on the anyone but Straw bandwagon since before spring training.  It was clear he wasn’t capable of playing center last season.  They are having to do this because either Click is a bad gym or Crane wouldn’t pay for a decent center fielder.

Exactly.

I think they were definitely chasing Buxton and decided that the risk/reward of trading Straw for relief pitching was worth it because of Meyers.

Or they really like Jake Meyers, who has clearly been a good surprise for player development this season. If Meyers had done this last year instead of losing a year of development, he's probably already on the team.

And at least the Astros have a pretty decent floor guy in McCormick, who in nearly 200 less PAs has nearly as much WAR as Straw. (1.1 to 1.5)

Looks like he needed time to bulk up and grow a proper MLB flow.

Hartman is already off of it.

Graveman took Joe Smith's spot.

Montero took Toro's spot.

Garcia took Pruitt's spot.

Maton takes Straw's spot.

Hartman was DFA'd this week, so the Astros had an opening, or did someone come back from injury?

So dusty won’t play chas so click traded straw so he has to play chas. If that’s the case then there’s a inward fight going on which isn’t good when you’re on a work series run.

Well, Philip Seymour Hoffman refused to play a game Chris Pratt. It happens.

They don't have an opening, someone has to come off.

Ivey to the 60 day IL makes the most sense.

They could also put Jairo Solis on it as well but if they do make that move with either one of those injured minor-leaguers, that starts the service clock increases the salary.
