PF Samuel Murray, Harrison Central (Gulfport, MS) (2022)

The 6-foot-8, 190-pound three-star picked up a Texas offer this week. It's just more of Chris Beard's new staff being proactive in the market.

While Kijani Wright is the top target at power forward, Murray is a rising prospect that is commanding more and more attention.

He holds nine offers including Baylor, Georgia Tech, LSU, and Missouri. I'm told Mississippi State is a quiet leader, but the Baylor offer might change that. He's certainly interested in Texas and would like to schedule a visit this summer, if possible.

It's just another example of Beard's boys looking everywhere. This 2022 class will be the foundation of Beard's tenure and these coaches are treating it as such.

It’s just a different ball game. As Beard’s staff gets poached, let’s hope he can keep this going. That’s what makes the elite, the elite. Hopefully we get a few years where they stay in tact.

Concern noted.

Nick at Nite: VIP intel on new Crystal Ball Prediction for five-star Keyonte George

Spoiler

Texas received some solid news on Thursday morning when Lewisville (Texas) iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy five-star shooting guard Keyonte George included the Longhorns in his top five alongside Baylor, Kentucky, Oklahoma State and Kansas.

From the moment Chris Beard stepped on campus with his newly-assembled mega-staff, he has made George priority number-one, and it's beginning to really pay off in this recruitment. With the George family focusing on the college route as opposed to the professional route, Texas is in the best position to land his services at the next level. Assistant coaches Ulric Maligi and Jerrance Howard have both been involved going back to their previous destinations, and it has resulted in Texas becoming the favorite at this point in his recruitment.

I have entered a Crystal Ball in favor of Texas with a confidence score of 7.

With visit season on the horizon, the Longhorns will secure George for an official visit next month alongside 2-4 of his other top schools. The biggest competition for the Longhorns moving forward in this recruitment will be Kentucky as assistant coach Jai Lucas has made the Wildcats at least a top school thus far. I also expect George to make it to Lexington for an official visit next month.

Lewisville (Texas) iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy four-star point guard Arterio Morris also dropped his top five this morning, and it also included the Longhorns alongside Georgia, Oregon, Kansas and Florida.

The big surprise is that Memphis was left off of his final list. Once a commit to the Tigers, Morris has previously said that Memphis will be one of the first places he takes a visit next month and that they are one of the two schools recruiting him the hardest. Who is the other school you might ask? Texas.

The Longhorns have put all of their energy into prioritizing athletic, skillful players in the backcourt for 2022 and Morris is one of the top targets for that fit. If the professional route wasn't an option for Morris, I would feel good enough to enter a Crystal Ball in favor of Texas, but those opportunities are going to be plentiful for him following his senior season.

This recruitment will be incredibly fluid, but Texas has put themselves in a position to win early on. I expect this recruitment to go all the way into next April, and with Texas already doing well for multiple backcourt prospects, I expect Morris to have a spot in the class all the way up until he decides.

Not to be read into too deeply, earlier this week Morris posted this picture on his Instagram story rocking a Texas shirt alongside George and Coppell (Texas) four-star combo guard Anthony Black:

Spoiler

Texas top target in the 2022 class Keyonte George (iSchool Academy) is expected to be in Austin the first weekend of June for an official visit. George will be accompanied by his mom on official visits. The Longhorns will begin the visit portion of the calendar in the pole position, but expect competition to emerge. Some schools were lightly recruiting George when there was chatter about the G-league being the No. 1 option a few months ago. Now that George has told anyone that will listen that he is going to play a year of college basketball, schools have turned up the heat. That includes Kentucky behind Jai Lucas, Bill Self is personally recruiting George for Kansas, and National Champion Baylor is getting serious. The assistant coaches that are said by a source extremely close to George as having had an impact in this recruitment are Ulric Maligi, Jerrance Howard (at Kansas and Texas), Alvin Brooks III and Lucas. IT expects Kentucky and Kansas at a minimum to receive OV’s barring a major change.

Point guard Arterio Morris (iSchool Academy) released a top five of Texas, Kansas, Florida, Oregon and Georgia. Texas begins June in the pole position here as well. A source extremely close to Morris told IT in recent days that a visit will happen in June, but dates weren’t locked in yet. The Longhorns have Maligi and Howard tag-teaming this recruitment, similar to George as both were recruiting Morris before arriving in Austin. Bill Self is also personally involved in the Morris recruitment, but not quite to the level as the George recruitment yet. The Jayhawks are the key competition right now. For those wondering if Baylor will try and jump in here, the Bears are focused more on Cason Wallace and Anthony Black currently at CG/PG.

June official visitors confirmed so far are five-star power forward Kijani Wright (Windward School/CA) June 9th-11th, eventual five-star center Kel’el Ware (North Little Rock) June 20th-22nd, and five-star guard Keyonte George the first weekend in June. IT expects Arterio Morris and Anthony Black to make June visits as well. Big man Felix Okpara (Hamilton Heights/TN) is more likely for a September OV barring a change in plans.

HOOPS

The Texas staff continues to take a very slow approach to filling out the 2021-22 roster. While the Longhorns could decide to add Dusan Mahorcic as a role-playing big man in the coming days, the staff could also wait to see who stays in the NBA Draft and who decides to come back to college. They could also look internationally as well. The door is not completely shut on Jericho Sims returning, but IT is not ready to say that is realistic.

One more key for the staff in filling out the roster will be getting a first look at the players in the program when they all report May 31 and June 1. The Texas staff is looking forward to getting an up close look at the squad as it stands now, continuing to evaluate the remaining needs.

On the recruiting front, 6-foot-7 Coppell CG Anthony Black has an official visit set up to Texas June 9-11th. Black will also make an OV to Oklahoma State in June. At this point, Baylor is considered a long shot despite his father playing for the Bears.

Texas confirmed June official visits:

SG Keyonte George, iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy (Lewisville, TX)- June 4-6
CG Anthony Black, Coppell (Coppell, TX) - June 9-11
PF Kijani Wright, Windward School (Los Angeles, CA) - June 9-11
C Kel’el Ware, North Little Rock (North Little Rock, AR) - June 20-22

IT believes Texas continues to lead for Keyonte George, and likely the same for Anthony Black. The Longhorns have a legit shot at Wright, and Ware is still TBD.

Expected 2022s on campus in June (others will be added):

CG Cason Wallace, Richardson (Richardson, TX)
PG Arterio Morris, iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy (Lewisville, TX)
SF Terrance Arceneaux, United (Beaumont, TX)

HOOPS

Texas reached out to people close to 2022 PF Yohan Traore (IMG Academy via France) to let them know that they would like to get the 6-9.5 fast riser on campus in June.

Traore will finish his school year at Prolific Prep in California, and is set to return to Texas June 7th or 8th. The plan is to get to Texas, make the short trip from Mansfield to check out TCU, and possibly a late June official trip somewhere.

The Longhorns have offered Traore, but Kijani Wright (Windward School, CA) is first in line. Creighton is expected to be the next to offer.

Beaumont United F Terrance Arceneaux continues to build a relationship with Texas led by Rodney Terry.

Arceneaux plans to make an UOV or OV to Texas in June. The 6-foot-6 bouncy forward has an official visit scheduled to Houston June 1-2, and a visit to Baylor in June is also in the works.

Nick at Nite: Trio of 2022 basketball recruits locked in for official visits; Emoni Bates update

Spoiler

Multiple sources were able to confirm to Horns247 over the weekend and on Monday that Texas is expected to host three 2022 targets for visits next month. Texas will host Coppell (Texas) four-star combo guard Anthony Black on June 9-11, North Little Rock (Ark.) four-star center Kel'el Ware on June 20-22 and Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward School five-star power forward Kijani Wright on June 9-11.

Black will also be taking official visits to Oklahoma State and Iowa State next month as his recruitment is starting to set up as a Big 12 battle. The son of former Baylor forward Terry Black, Anthony Black has also been given a full-court press by the Baylor program, but guards such as Bryce Griggs and Cason Wallace seem to be trending more in the Bears' favor at this point.

Chris Beard and his staff have been heavily intrigued by Kel'el Ware for about a year now, and now they will be able to meet the 6-foot-11, 210 pound center in person for the first time next month. Ware is also hearing heavily from in-state power Arkansas and Eric Musselman. Memphis and USC are also expected to land official visits as his recruitment will be a national battle between worthy programs. In gauging Texas' chances here, they will need to have a big visit weekend to catch up to the front of the pack, but they will at least get the opportunity.

Kijani Wright has had one of the more quieter recruitments thus far as he has done a good job of keeping information in-house. Horns247 was able to at least confirm that Wright will be on campus in June as Chris Beard is going big-game hunting in this 2022 class with Wright being one of the top targets on the board. The No. 11 ranked overall prospect in the country according to 247Sports Composite, Wright's recruitment will be crowded as Arkansas, Kansas, Stanford and USC are all expected to land visits as well. I will be heading to Los Angeles next week and catching up with Wright will be one of my main priorities.

Reports from other outlets have said that Lewisville (Texas) iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy five-star shooting guard Keyonte George will be taking an official visit to Texas on June 4-6, but we have not been able to confirm that with our sources at this time. The early indication is that George will not take his visits immediately following the lift on the dead period and will instead look towards the fall. This is a developing situation that we will continue to monitor as visit season approaches.

In looking at other recruits on the board, I expect Terrance Arceneaux, Sam Murray, Jazian Gortman, Arterio Morris, Jordan Walsh and Felix Okpara to take visits to Texas this summer/fall.

In case you missed it, 247Sports recruiting analyst DuShawn London caught up with the No. 1 overall prospect in the country Emoni Bates over the weekend and Texas was brought up in their conversation.

“Our relationship is really good, they were the first school to offer me after I decommitted from Michigan State," Bates said about Texas. "They just called, talked to me and reached out to my family. With them I haven't really gotten to watch them yet. I watched videos of (Kevin Durant) when he was there but not their game recently.”

Since decommitting from Michigan State, Bates has seen a flurry of Crystal Ball Predictions come in favor of the professional route, but he told London that he is still weighing his options with his family and is in no rush to make a decision.

As a result, I expect Texas to host Bates at some point this summer for a visit. Tennessee, Memphis and Michigan State are also expected to see Bates on campus after the lift on the dead period.

(Gerry Hamilton) IT presents: New No. 1 in the 2022 basketball prospect rankings, new addition jumps into top 10

Spoiler

Chris Beard and staff continue working to put together the best roster possible for the 2021-22 season, but the decisions on which prospects to go all in on in the 2022 uber important recruiting class is beginning to take shape ahead of June visits and live period at the end of June and into July.

Like the 2022 class on the gridiron, the class of 2022 is absolutely loaded inside the state lines with a number of top ranked players nationally.

With the spring AAU circuit now in the rearview mirror, IT has updated the top 25 prospects in the state.

Keyonte George has been flat out spectacular at times this spring, and makes the jump to No. 1 with Arterio Morris going to No. 2. From a pure talent level, these two are ahead of the remainder of a very talented class.

Anthony Black also moves up to No. 4, bumping Bryce Griggs to No. 5. The 6-foot-7 combo guard is playing at a very high level this spring having given up football and spending all his time in the gym working on player development.

Garland High power forward Zuby Ejiofor makes a jump into the top 10 with an improving perimeter game and confidence, while still maintaining his physical style in the paint.

The new addition to the IT Top 25 is Quion Williams of Mansfield Legacy High. He sat out this past season due to transfer rules, but his talents have been showcased this spring on a loaded Southern Assault AAU squad that includes George, 6-foot-10 Yohan Traore, Collin Smith and now Austin Nunez.

1. Keyonte George, SG, iSchool Academy
Simply put, George was born to score the basketball. The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder can score at all three levels, and does so with ease. His ability to go get his own shot going left or right is a differentiator. He has the ability to score from three levels going either way, and has NBA range. The control with which he plays under, while scoring the ball places him on another level. Strong enough to take hits and finish at difficult angles. More of an offensive minded player at this stage, but is improving on the defensive end. Texas is considered the favorite over Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

2. Arterio Morris, PG, iSchool Academy
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard has so much of the “can’t teach that” talent. Morris has elite athleticism for his size, but is more than a difference maker athlete. He can shoot the ball from NBA range, has improved in the mid-range and can finish above the rim in traffic with the frame to take contact and play through contact. Extremely dangerous in the ball screen game. Can appear as more of a scoring PG, but he sees the floor well and makes plays for teammates. Competes on both ends. The one-time Memphis verbal released a top 5 of Texas, Kansas, Florida, Oregon and Georgia last week.

3. Cason Wallace, CG, Richardson High
In a loaded class, Wallace is the prospect that competes on both ends of the floor the best. While he has the task of running his team, and scoring the ball and creating for teammates, he also always defends the best guard of the opponent. He has a Royal Ivey type competitiveness about him. An improved perimeter game to go with the ability to make plays around the rim has Wallace continuing to ascend in a loaded class. The June visit list will very likely consist of Arkansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas.

4. Anthony Black, CG, Coppell High
Black has grown to nearly 6-foot-7, and is ascending on the court after now officially giving up football. Black is strong in transition, will attack the rim and finish with one-handed dunks, can handle the ball and is a willing defender that has the ability to guard multiple positions. A difference maker rebounder at the guard position. Black will make official visits to Texas and Oklahoma State for sure in June. Baylor, Iowa State and Illinois are among the others on the list. His father played basketball at Baylor, and his mother played soccer at Texas and Baylor.

5. Bryce Griggs, PG, Hightower
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Griggs can score the ball, period. He does so without being an elite athlete, but instead with change of pace, feel for creating space, ability to finish in traffic playing through contact and is an elite shooter. Griggs not only can shoot it with ease from NBA range, but can also knock down the mid-range jumpers off the bounce going right or left. Griggs has immediate pro aspirations, but he will have to take his play up a few notches in July live period and as a senior to make that realistic. Houston, Texas, Baylor, Kansas, Memphis and LSU make up the college list.

6. Terrance Arceneaux, F, Beaumont United
The heroic state champion from undefeated Beaumont United will be another riser in the national rankings. At over 6-foot-6 with very long arms and a motor, Arceneaux impacts the game open both ends, which included nine blocked shots in the state championship game vs. Dallas Kimball. Arceneaux has shot 40% from three in each of his three seasons on varsity, and can put the ball on the deck, His mid-range game off the bounce has improved, and he can finish above the rim in the paint and in transition. Will have to cut down on the unforced turnovers at the next level. The early offer list includes Houston, Baylor, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M and Oral Roberts.

7. Zuby Ejiofor, PF, Garland High
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound powerfully build power forward has always shows physicality and the ability to play above the rim, but moves into the top 10 of the rankings with an improved face up game out to the three-point line. Ejiofor has made a number of corner three’s on the spring AAU circuit, which shows just how confident he has become facing up on the perimeter. The offer list includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia Tech, TCU, Houston, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech.

8. Cameron Corhen, PF, Plano John Paul II
The 6-foot-9.5 son of former Georgia forward Reggie Cohen is a fast riser and one that will move up the national rankings. His ability to quickly get off the floor and defend above the rim is welcomed by high majors. His offensive game is developing, with an emphasis on working on his face up game out to three-point range. The offer list is now over 15, including Georgia, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Arizona and Georgia Tech.

9. Quion Williams, SF/W, Mansfield Legacy
The state of Arkansas move in to the D/FW area last year is a new addition to the IT Top 25. While the perimeter game still has to develop, the nearing 6-foot-5, 185-pound wing plays a physical, finishing brand of basketball. He’s a high-major player in transition, playing through contact, rebounding from his position and competes on both ends. Very tough player that will not back down from a challenge. Houston, Texas Tech, TCU and Texas A&M have offered to this point, but that list will grow in July.

10. Austin Nunez, PG, San Antonio Wagner
The 6-foot-2 point guard flashes sneaky athleticism to go with good pace and the ability to make open three’s. The lefty is a crafty finisher inside of 15-feet, including a soft touch floater in the paint. The top two in recent weeks and months has been Virginia and Arkansas. The live period will be big in his recruitment now playing with a Southern Assault AAU team that features Keyonte George, Yohan Traore.

11. Colin Smith, PF, Dallas St. Mark’s
Smith’s strength is simple — he can shoot the ball from three at a high level for his size. His ability to help stretch the floor in the college game will allow him to make up for lack of ideal athleticism. He’s comfortable with the ball and has a soft touch in the paint. Also converts free throws. Plays with a calmness about him. Continuing to develop defensively as a paint defender and traffic rebounder will be key at the next level.

12. Lee Dort, C, Greenhill School
The Vanderbilt verbal is highly ranked nationally, and presents a powerful body in the paint at 6-foot-9 with good arm length. He possesses quick feet for his size with the ability to spin and pivot under control and finish with two hands on the rim. To eventually play up to the very lofty national rankings, his post moves are going to have to develop along with his ability to play over both shoulders from 10-12 feet.

13. T.J. Caldwell, SG, Waxahachie Faith Academy
The 6-foot-4, 175-pounder has been one of the pleasant surprises for IT on the spring AAU circuit. Caldwell is full of high-major athleticism on both ends of the floor. Strong body that can take contact and finish above the rim. Quick feet and flexibility with strength to be a redirect defender on the perimeter. When he makes perimeter shots consistently, he’s can ascend into the top 10 in the state. Make no mistake, this guy has the athletic ability and wiry strength one can’t teach. The early offer list includes Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Tulsa, SMU and TCU.

14. Brendan Hausen, SG, Amarillo High
IT continues to be a big fan of the 6-foot-4, 180-pounder. The ability to shoot the three, handle the ball and make quality basketball plays at 6-foot-4 makes him an undervalued four year piece for a high-major program. The offer list includes Houston, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Nevada, Rice, TCU, Texas A&M, Wichita State, Tulsa.

15. Jordan Walsh, SF, Waxahachie Faith Family
6-7, 185
Offers: Oklahoma State, California, Texas A&M, Texas Tech

16. P.J. Haggerty, SG, Crosby High
6-3, 175
Offers: Houston, Arizona State, Florida State, Arizona, Rice, TCU

17. Rylan Griffen, SG, Richardson High
6-5, 175
Offers: Creighton, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M

18. Ryan Agarwal, SF, Coppell High
6-7, 175
Commitment: Stanford

19. Cade Hornecker, C, Amarillo High
6-11, 210
Offers: Creighton, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Oral Roberts, Wichita State, TCU

20. Amaree Abram, CG, Summer Creek
6-3, 180
Offers: Oral Roberts, Louisiana Tech, Rice

21. Noah Shelby, CG, Greenhill School
6-2, 175
Commitment: Vanderbilt

22. Trae Clayton, SF, iSchool Academy

Gavin Perryman committed and I'm guessing as a walk-on?

If so, that's an absolute steal by Beard. Perryman can play. GASO has him ranked as the #27 player in Texas and he had D1 offers.

If he can shoot free throws as well as his dad, he will definitely get minutes towards the end of games.

Gavin Perryman committed and I'm guessing as a walk-on?

If so, that's an absolute steal by Beard. Perryman can play. GASO has him ranked as the #27 player in Texas and he had D1 offers.

Is his skill set similar to his dad?

Good to very good shot:

PG Morris, SG George, CG Black, C Okpara, PF Wright or Traore

That wouldn't be a bad 5 man class.....

(Brandon Jenkins) Updated predictions on where the top 2022's in Texas will go

Spoiler

The last time I wrote a Texas 2022 prediction article, three of the mentioned prospects committed to the programs I forecasted. Therefore, after three months of coaching changes and players elevating their stock, I felt it was time to update the predictions of the Lone Star State's top-100 nationally ranked prospects as we head into visit season:

KEYONTE GEORGE

Status: The top shooting guard in the country, Keyonte George cut his list down to Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, and Texas last week. With professional opportunities favored a few months ago, the hiring of Chris Beard at Texas with the addition of a star-studded staff may be enough to draw George to Austin.

Last Prediction: Professional

Updated Prediction: Texas

CASON WALLACE

Status: While no player made a bigger jump in the last ranking update than Cason Wallace, no player has also tried to keep as quiet of a recruitment as him as well. However, with Tennessee being the only program to receive a planned visit out of him, I see this being an SEC battle between the Vols and the Wildcats of Kentucky.

Last Prediction: Kentucky

Updated Prediction: Kentucky

BRYCE GRIGGS

Status: A five-star prospect who has a strong desire to play at the highest level of the sport, Bryce Griggs released a final seven list of options this past weekend. However, the glaring option seems to be the Overtime Elite one. Having not signed a point guard, expect Griggs to be the first at the position to capitalize on the league's momentum and join.

Last Prediction: Memphis

Updated Prediction: Professional

ARTERIO MORRIS

Status: Arterio Morris is playing his way back into five-star conversation and showing why he is the most talented point guard prospect in the class. The former Memphis pledge also released a final five list that included Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Oregon, and Texas. Out of each of the programs that made the cut, Texas looks to have the best shot at landing Morris. However, the professional opportunities the G-League or Overtime Elite league could potentially provide may be too much to ignore.

Last Prediction: Professional

Updated Prediction: Professional

ZUBY EJIOFOR

Status: Since the last prediction article, Zuby Ejiofor was a huge priority for in-state programs TCU and Texas. After a productive spring and a series of coaching changes, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma have wiggled their way into giving themselves a shot. With that being said, I still feel it will be hard to get the four-star big man to leave Texas.

Last Prediction: Texas

Updated Prediction: Texas

VINCENT IWUCHUKWU

Status: Vince Iwuchukwu recently told 247Sports this weekend that he is open in his recruitment. He said Arizona State, Florida State, Indiana, Purdue, Texas, and USC are a few of the programs that have been recruiting him the hardest lately. However, I still see Baylor as the program to beat in this case.

Last Prediction: Baylor

Updated Prediction: Baylor

RYLAN GRIFFEN

Status: Once a lock to commit to Oklahoma, Rylan Griffen was forced to re-open his recruitment after the retirement of Lon Kruger. Since then, Alabama, Arizona, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State have been in talks with the four-star guard the most. He has told 247Sports how he plans on visiting Manhattan and Stillwater.

Last Prediction: Oklahoma

Updated Prediction: Oklahoma State

AUSTIN NUNEZ

Status: Due to the hiring of Shaka Smart, Marquette has replaced Texas as one of the contending programs for the services of Austin Nunez. However, Oregon's hiring of Chris Crutchfield as an assistant may have been more important. As of now Arkansas, Marquette, Oregon, and Virginia are all in the mix.

Last Prediction: Texas

Updated Prediction: Oregon

ANTHONY BLACK

Status: Anthony Black has boosted his stock tremendously this spring with his play and his recruitment has certainly reflected his efforts. After adding in offers from Arkansas and Iowa State, Black has locked in visits with both programs next month. Texas also has a June visit set and have been looked upon as the clear favorites. However, with the live period dates on the horizon, I could see heavy hitters like Duke and Gonzaga coming into the picture to make life hard for the Horns.

Last Prediction: Texas

Updated Prediction: Duke

TERRANCE ARCENEAUX

Status: Houston will get Terrance Arceneaux on campus on the first-day visits are allowed. With Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, and UNLV all active in his recruitment, I see North Carolina (who has recently expressed interest in the four-star wing) as the only school to be in real competition with the Cougars.

Last Prediction: Houston

Updated Prediction: Houston

JORDAN WALSH

Status: Jordan Walsh is another Texas prospect who has elevated his stock with his play this spring. He is steadily turning the potential (that has caught the attention of high major coaches since middle school) into production. Walsh last told 247Sports that Arkansas, TCU, Texas, and Texas A&M have been recruiting him the hardest. As of now, this is a toss-up, so it makes sense to stick with my original prediction until further notice.

Last Prediction: TCU

Updated Prediction: TCU

He better hope Danielle Viglione doesn’t have a daughter at Texas

LOL.  My fading memory kept telling me that there was a female version of a 3-point/free throw shooting player that was on the 40 around the same time.  That's her.
