Wofford transfer guard Max Klesmit hasn't even been in the transfer portal 24 hours, but his phone is ringing off the hook. Since Wednesday, Klesmit has heard from Wisconsin, Iowa State, Butler, Texas, Georgia Tech, Loyola (IL), Santa Clara, Southern Illinois, UW-Green Bay, and Davidson.

A native of Neenah, Wisconsin

Might be difficult to pull him away when hometown programs come calling

allen is not NBA ready. do any scouts think he can actually make a squad next year? i see the D league for him. i guess it's ok since he'll be getting paid to play bball.

A year isn't going to make him NBA ready. He isn't magically gonna become a 36+% 3pt shooter on volume or grow 4 inches. It's Europe or Texas. Also, it hasn't been called the D League in 5 years

His only shot at the NBA is as a defensive specialist with a 3 point shot. He's not a bad defender, but compared to PJ Tucker, who had the same 3 point shooting deficiencies coupled with sub optimal height, Allen isn't nearly the athlete or ball handler - or defender - in college Tucker was. Plus, as hard working as Allen is, he's not nearly as relentless as Tucker was. And even then Tucker played 5 years overseas before sticking in the NBA. To his credit. He completely reshaped his game in those 5 years. But that's a heck of a grind.

On the other hand, it'd be great if he returned to Texas. He's a versatile player who can fill a lot of roles on a college team.

He's a really good coach and basketball recruits are even more mercenary than football recruits. Checks out.

This.

Dude has NBA and international experience and has taken his teams to at least the Sweet 16 in 3 of the past 5 years with back to back Elite 8s.  Plus his high energy personality and his willingness to adapt his offense to his players instead of the other around way - he seems like a great guy and coach to go play for.

Fuck Arkansas the school though.

Morris was hailed as the best fit for Beard's system at the guard position (more so than George) exactly because of his rounded skill set, including elite level D. I wouldn't start passing judgement on the kid based on an all star game.

I think that was Cason Wallace who was the Beard fit because of his defense.  Morris has the highest ceiling out of the (very good) group of guard prospects from Texas this year since he has NBA All Star level athleticism, but there’s a risk of things not meshing well with Beard.  I think Dillon Mitchell is going to have an easier adjustment to college based on playing with other elite talent at a high profile prep school vs. Morris playing at Kimball.

Speaking of Mitchell, he could be in the NBA dunk contest one day, and he is expected to be a lock down defender.  A 6’8” wing with that kind of athleticism is going to bring a very different dimension to the team next year.

Ah yes, you're right. Getting my 5 star guards confused.

Wasn't there a game where he shut down another 5 star?  I seem to recall this a few months ago.  I want to say it was George or Black.  But yeah, drawing conclusions from an all-star game seems absurd.

I wasn’t drawing conclusions from a ASG. I was commenting on his performance in the ASG. if I said, “we are screwed and the kid will never play D”, then I get it. But he played very little D last night and less so than everyone else. That was an observation.

There are things you can take away from last night performance in that there is a reason why Wallace is ranked above him. Wallace seemed to be more in control and had a better shot. But I came away thinking Morris might have more potential. George seemed sloppy. I have seen him too many times to think it was indicative of his potential.

Other notes:

As noted by the announcers, talent was not close to equal to last year. But there is a lot of  very good basketball players. If these kids were staying two or three years, I’d have a different viewpoint of this class. But these guys are not physically ready for the NBA unless they completely change their bodies

Duke has some really good players coming in but they need some guys to stay if they want to be back at FF.  They were the class of the game.

Mitchell was difficult to get a read on. He was out of sync and was looking for dunks all night. Kid jumps out of the building but didn’t really have any desire to do anything else. He has played completely differently at Montverde.  This weekend’s tournament will get us a good look at that.

He’s like a slightly more talented Askew. But he’s a black hole and a terrible shooter, so no obvious positives. Not sure how you have both on the roster. I’d take Askew because he seems to care about D and distributing the ball. Curbelo would do well to go to a mid major and take over a team versus trying to try and be a bench option.
