Anyone have experience with one of these?  I bought one and it has already shipped, so be kind.

No more amps for me for a while.

I got this thing today.  It's bigger than I thought it would be (have fun with that).

This is my first tube amp, and I'm freaking impressed so take that for what it's worth.  In reading the reviews, I pre-ordered some JJ tubes to replace the stock tubes.  I don't think my ears will know the difference for a while.  I'm going to hold off on changing them.

My only disappointment is with Musician's Friend.  It was an open box model and they used some really shitty tape to attach a tag along the top of the left side.  I tried to remove it with an alcohol swab and that shit will not let up.  It is still stuck to my hands.  I don't want to use goo gone because I'm afraid it might damage it.  Also, there was a random screw in the box that I'm going to have to figure out.

It's damn loud.  I'm going to have some fun with this thing when my husband is in his deer blind.

6V6's? The JJ's are pretty bulletproof, but the Tung Sol's are much more musical, IMO.

When I took it to Will a couple months ago, I was gonna get the baffle made and grill cloth mounted. He looked at it closely and could tell that it had been recovered previously. It didn’t have the seams in the right places and the tolex was slightly thinner than 60s tolex. But he measured the cabinet with templates from an original blackface DR and looked at the inside including the tube chart, and he was positive it was a 64 cabinet. So I decided to have him strip it, repair the gouges from the previous owner’s cat and recover it with the correct seam patterns exactly like it would’ve had originally. Will said that when he stripped it, he could see remnants of the original 60s glue and tolex underneath.

The baffle is made of fir plywood and made just like a 64 no logo model - without the triangular piece of wood in the upper left corner that supports the Fender logo in 65 and later DRs. The grill cloth is from an original blackface Bassman cab. Will centered the cloth perfectly so that the “ring” from the 12” Bassman speaker fit right over the speaker on the DR. I was really happy with the way it turned out.

Next up is getting the caps replaced and electronics up and running. And making a decision on what to do about the faceplate.

What did he whack you for on that cabinet?

We worked out a deal for $200 plus he kept the other half of the original blackface grill cloth and the Larry Rodgers reproduction cloth I’d purchased previously to use on other projects. A baffle and grill cloth runs about $100 and a tolex recover costs about $200, together about the same price as the new cabinets he builds.

Turns out, this is correct.

It won't turn on.  It's going back.

Any suggestions on a tube amp under $500?

Although not tube, the dudes on here really like those Boss Katana amps.

Googled best amps under $500, and Guitar World agrees.

You might try out the Vox AC4 but try the one with the 12" speaker, not the 10".    It is PLENTY loud.

I like mine the more I mess with it, especially with humbuckers.  (Don't remember which guitar you ended up getting...sorry).

AC4 is a nice little amp, can be a bit shrill to my ears. Now the AC10 is a GREAT amp, everything I wanted and didn't get out of the AC4 (my brother-in-law bought one and I'm thinking about it) and under 500 bills.

Thanks! The Vox looks like a winner. I’m playing a telecaster.

Need some sleuth help. Decent chance I get drunk and click on one of these this weekend. Need to understand difference between knobs on top and knobs on the bottom and how that affects tone. Too much driving right now for me to research.

Curious why you would sell this.  Seems like a great amp.

It is a great amp, especially if you need a lot of headroom at high volume.  Which is something I rarely need nowadays.  So I don’t end up playing it and I feel guilty every time I see it just sitting there taking up floor space.

details please and thank you.

I will, but you're not going to like them.

A friend bought it and asked me to take it to the amp shop because it wasn't working properly.  Just as I got it home and took these pics, he discovered that he had a faulty cord.  Took it back to his place, and he discovered (outside my presence) that the amp worked fine.  I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  When I do, I'll report back.

I absolutely love my Blues Jr, but it sits in a closet and rarely gets played. I'm thinking about bringing it to Texas so I can play the hell out of it when there.

Surprized how many times Vox made that list. I love the way they sound, but I have a cringe worthy Vox story that would probably get me banned from this thread that keeps me from getting one. Horrible memory they remind me of.

1)  Blues Jr  2) Katana-50

That little Yamaha is a surprise at 3.  Surprised the Kemper is that high as well given how expensive it is.

Bassbreaker fell off the fn' map, thanks to the DougO curse. Just like the Super Champ x2.

Don't matter, they're dang good amps.

Popular =/= good.

Plenty of good equipment out there that won't make a list.  Like this for example:

Well, maybe that's not hte best example.  But still, you get what I'm on about.

Yeah, I would have lost the bet that the DSL40C/R would have been on that list. Up until a year or so ago, it was the go-to entry Marshall and Marshall's only real modern gigging solution. And it had an army of vocal proponents who used it in some prominent roles.

I wonder just how disruptive Katana has been regarding the DSL40's - DSL40C was top 5 or something last year, IIRC.

Also a little stunned the Blues Jr. was able to hang on to number 1. I would have put money on some flavor of Katana running away with it.

Now, I'd put money on 2020 being the year the little solid state amp that rewrote the rules takes home the gold.
