#218 St.Thomas follows their hotly contested game against marquette witu games against something called Crown, followed by Wisconsin River Falls. naturally this wisconsin based powerhouse pushed marquette to its limit.

you see that marquette fans? it’s called Shakablah. it’s the ability to beat a top 10 team or two one week, only to turn and and struggle to win home games against western idaho ministry college for pygmies. turns out that there aren’t very many teams that you can’t beat and/or lose to when you don’t recruit shooters but you give your entire team the green light to play like morons with zero repercussions. marquette fans gonna find out sooner or later that no amount of SEAL training and better tomorrows can make up for fraudulent leadership and substandard coaching. this is the type of win that they’ll look back on in five years and say, “the signs were there.”

this might be my favorite screencap from above. you kill #20 Butler, you play very close with three top 10 teams, then you damn near lose at home to virginia commonwealth and tennessee state. never mind that this screen cap includes the infamous duke game where shaka favored eric davis jr. to guard marvin bagley in OT over the likes of james banks, jericho sims, and royce hamm. this month of results is the perfect encapsulation of shakablah.

Lost at Providence to start 0-1 in Big East play. Shot 20% (4-20) from three and 32.1% (18-56) overall. This is the story of Shaka-coached teams. They're lethal and can play with anyone when they're on, but they have a lot of jack-up-the-threes-and-miss types of games.

This, after beating St. Thomas (MN), by just five this past Thursday.

Never change, Shaka.

“i think the basketball gods allow you to make more shots and finish better when you have ultimate connectivity, and we did not have that tonight.”

😂😂😂😂😂😂

great analysis Tony Robbins. im sure that your players will have many more better tomorrows as soon y’all work out your ultimate connectivity. 😂😂😂

you can’t make this shit up.

Yup, just too inconsistent based on how they shoot from 3.

I'm still fully expecting an early round exit when they shoot 3/20 from 3.

they’re also #284 in the country in OReb%, by design, same as his teams at Texas. since one of his core philosophies is eschewing offensive rebounding to get back on defense, when his teams inevitably do have a poor shooting day they go one-and-done on offense all day long. that’s why he doesn’t just have a bunch of early round losses, he has a bunch of early round ass whoopings.

  • 2 weeks later...

even in a game like this where they look really impressive in the 2H, those of us who’ve had him as our coach can spot that this style of play will not be sustainable in march, barring a hot shooting night every single time out. they have a really imposing and talented team,  it the hallmarks of shaka smart (lack of discipline and questionable shot selection) are still evident. they’re gonna be really tough to beat when they’re on, and then they’re going to lose by 20 when all of the shots aren’t falling.

this is getting kind of sad

i assume you’ve made this same post in the mack brown, charlie strong, chris beard, and rick barnes threads, yeah? why do you care about what other people watch and post about? every two weeks a couple of us watch a marquette game and make a few posts about it, and you feel compelled to come into the thread and tell us that it’s sad. you ever ask yourself why?

It ain’t December anymore

It’s too predictable at this point. It’s ingrained in his aura as a coach. Generate endless non-conference hype, then get to conference play and drop games (especially on the road against average or worse competition) ad nauseam.

Shaka is again marking all the proverbial boxes. We’ll see what the tournament brings.
