Okay. You're focusing on the energy aspect, understandable if that is your area and yes, it is going to cost more, but why throw out the whole resolution? That is not the only thing that affects quality of life for the poor. Drinking water such as in Flint is not potable at this time. Can we help them?

Some of the communities near Houston are polluted, can we help them? Those living near PNG, after the explosion two years ago, people were worried about air quality. Tough shit, they shouldn't live there?

Trade offs. Working together. Compromising. These are not dirty words.

Those and many other problems are best solved by prosperity. Making ourselves much poorer is a shit proposition for helping the downtrodden, social justice, and just about any other social issue you want to propose.

The rest of the world isn’t going to pivot to green energy as it’s going to be a disaster?  The rest of the world, for the most part, is doing exactly that...and for good reason, and getting cheaper all the time.  I strongly disagree with that sentiment.

What do you suggest?

You work on efficiencies, you devote a reasonable amount of money to research (which is already been done), you push nat gas. But ultimately I don't know how much can be done. Do we want to tell China and India they can't develop into first world countries? That is where the lion share of emissions is coming from and will only increase.

We've started it by artificial means. It will be a disaster. And that's just us. The rest of the world isn't going to follow suit.

Artificial how? And why a disaster?

The rest of the world is leading the way, we’re the ones following suit. Everyone is investing in green energy. Countries. Energy companies. Why? It is a better product. Period. Once the price comes down enough, and yes, they have been declining over the years, it will be a no brainer.

Dear customer, would you like energy from oil or from solar/wind? Same price. You choose. The customer will always choose column B. Of course we will always have oil/gas for intermittency issues and other things like feedstock, but it’s time as the dominant fuel source will be gone in 50 years.

The cheapest form of energy is burning wood / dung. Followed by coal. Followed by nat gas. Followed by oil. Not including nuclear because for some reason we hate it.

You think China, India, Pakistan, Malyasia, Central America, South America will be helped by green energy?

What kind of burden would we put on the middle class in this country to mandate electric vehicles, much less the poor.

That's not even getting into the fact that harnessing all this "green" energy actually requires more imput of carbon than actually using carbon as your energy source. Its lies.

Sadly, this is a non-serious answer.

I could write a novel on the GND and why it won't work. But the point is, its just another political invention to grab voting blocs and siphon tax payer money to friends of elected officials. That's it. Full stop. Same shit happens with Republicans on different issues. It definitely doesn't help the average US tax payer.

There it is. Trickle down economics. Makers and takers. Job creators.

Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor.

You guys don't like to dig to deep. China and India drive emissions. Do some research on their energy plans. Good lord.

You sure like to tell us how much you know about things without ever posting shit about it.

I hope we get a nice EV. I think it would be cool to own and drive. How will we power it?

You understand how electricity is generated, you seem to think renewable energy is incapable of doing it for some odd reason? I’ve yet to hear a good argument.

No. I’m not the one on here talking about how much I supposedly know and then not posting shit about it. That would be your dumb ass.

You are a joke and everything that this thread is supposed to be against. You're posting history proves that. Get lost and let the adults speak.

Our capacity to generate is dangerously near the point of intermittent outages in many parts of the country. Not just Texas and Cali. Renewables aren't even in the ballpark of being able to handle it. We could put solar on every roof and wind turbines in every field, won't get us there. Did you guys not learn your lesson in Feb?

Neon, I'll send you some stuff tomorrow if you're genuinely interested.

This is good one to discuss. Trump was a clown and a disgrace. But how is someone to vote that couldn't disagree more with the Dem platform? We were told not to worry about the crazies like AOC...now she has a little juice. We are heading full speed into the GND, which will be a disaster, but make Dem donors money. How are we supposed to vote? For a degenerate? Or for someone that is promising to do the opposite of what we believe is most important for the health of the country? Shit sandwich and Giant Douche.

The Green New Deal as envisioned by AOC will not pass both houses of congress anytime in the near future.  The idea that AOC is propelling US policy on climate change is absurd.

February wasn't about renewables.

With all due respect, not looking for the dissection of the thread title. Or the literal legal consequences. More of a discussion of how our tolerance of others has brought us to this place in 2021.

Words have meaning. Use the correct ones or don't get mad when someone corrects you.

In what way is AOC crazy? I'm assuming your knowledge is this is limited to talking point and actually paying attention to what she has said.

What on earth is this based on? Coal the second cheapest? Nuclear? What evidence could you possibly be relying on here. Solar and wind have been growing because they are now cheaper than all of those. Prior to that, natural gas ate coal's lunch. Nuclear, at least in the US, hasn't been economically attractive.

I learned that all power generation failed back in Feb. I learned that our state regulatory body didn’t do shit. I learned that there’s some glaring inefficiencies with the way our market is set up.

We're just far beyond differences of opinion at this point. The Republican Party is doubling down on its alternate reality and has shown repeatedly that is unable and/or unwilling to work in good faith. Rank and file partisans fall in line like sports fans. No reasonable person can work with someone who believes the Trumpist nonsense a lot of Republicans believe.

The platform? What on earth does a platform have to do with anything. Vote against clowns in office. If given the choice between a clown that’s in office and a clown running against them you vote against the incumbent.
JFC. Platform? “Promises?”  You honestly think we are heading into the green new deal and that it will be a disaster?

Wow, that’s some strawman. Don’t pretend you want some kind of elevated discussion of the topic of your post when you’re engaging in the very problem you claim to want to solve.

LCOE of onshore wind and utility solar is less than combined cycle natural gas, even without tax credits. Coal and nuclear aren't competitive.

I'm happy to provide more reports from other governments or other scientific studies if that is what you need.

I’ve read all of the stuff. I’ve worked in the energy business for 15 years. I know what our capacity is now, and I know renewables can’t come close to handling the load like South Austin’s mother can, but that has nothing to do with our discussion. I wasn’t arguing renewables were replacing oil/nat now, but within 50 years, and that the transition has already started, by energy companies, by countries, private equity, because it is a superior product. Your argument was it will be a disaster and it won’t happen. Neither of which have to do with current capacity
