Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Think about it another way. We landed Bijan with Herman as the head coach and a less than stellar coaching staff. I feel a little more confident now with Sark as the head coach and a spider monkey with the program. I understand the angst, but I feel no need to hide in my shell when I hear Ohio fucking State has interest in a recruit.

Technically, it's a capuchin...

(Darius Terrell) What do Parents and Top Prospects Really Think?

Spoiler

What do Parents and Top Prospects Really Think?

With things in a holding pattern until the calendar turns to June, I thought that this week would be a good time to do some digging for the readers of this site. You get the weekly updates on recruits and you see them saying a lot of the same things to everyone. You also have your handful that play to the audience and say what they believe wants to be heard.

I decided to do something a bit different. I used my contacts and decided to survey about a dozen individuals, spanning from 2022-2025 recruiting classes to get their real thoughts on things. I also made sure to get someone from each position group so that we could get the full picture.

Because this was an exercise completed in anonymity, I made sure to keep things relatively broad while still allowing folks to go into detail without possibly compromising their identities. The goal here was to bring you all some transparency to what recruits and parents in the state of Texas really feel about things currently.

Every father that I spoke with has a child that holds a Texas offer and the younger guys will undoubtedly hold Texas offers in the future.

Hope you all enjoy.

2022 Defensive Parent

“Alabama.”

2023 5 Star Parent

“We haven’t really experienced any of that yet. Just folks saying Texas kids need to get out of Texas and spread their wings.”

2023 5 Star Parent

“A coach at Oklahoma.”

2023 OL Parent

“Texas Tech”

2022 DL

“Nobody.”

2023 Offensive Standout

“Texas”

2023 5-Star

“Baylor”

2023 Defensive Offer

“Probably SMU.”

2024 5-Star

“I haven’t heard anything yet really negative.”

2025 5-Star

“Nobody really”

“More important: Being a featured player or making the CFP?”

2022 5 Star Parent

“Great question. I’d have to say being featured.”

2022 Defensive Parent

“Making CFP.”

2023 5 Star Parent

2023 OL Parent

“Being in the proper scheme. Development matters.”

2022 DL

“Honestly, this is a tough one. I think being a feature guy, man.”

2023 5 Star

“Being featured.”

2023 Defensive Offer

“Being featured for sure. Have to be in the right situation to be able to make plays. The rest will take care of itself.”

2024 5-Star

“Being featured in the scheme.”

2025 5-Star

“Probably making it to the playoffs. I want the big stage.”

“What’s really the most important factor when it comes to your son’s decision?

2022 5 Star Parent

“You know it’s about the league. It’s still early for us and I’m letting him do him. We’ll probably sit down after the visits in the summer and have a real serious conversation about it all.”

2022 Defensive Parent

“Him being comfortable.”

2023 5 Star Parent

“The environment outside of Football. Is the system in place a system that helps kids grow? Is it a place that he would want to stay outside of just Football? Can you really enjoy being in college there?”

2023 5 Star Parent

“You have to show us you’re a real family. We’re prioritizing the “real” and we will be seeing through any fake stuff. Has to be a program that develops players and can get him where he wants to go as a man and athlete.”

2023 OL Parent

“Academics for me. And when I say academics I don’t mean ratings. Do they have a good alumni base? Are they pushing the kids through or is it a genuine program where kids are learning and truly being prepared for the real world as men?”

2022 DL

“The culture is the most important. The best blend of Football and a real education.”

2023 Offensive Standout

“My relationship with my position coach. That’s going to be #1. It’s all about trust.”

2023 5-Star

“Am I going to play early, relationship with position coach, can you get me where I’m trying to go (NFL).”

2023 Defensive Offer

“Has to feel like home and I won’t just settle for going for a big-name school. It has to be real and my family has to agree with it too.”

2024 5-Star

“How it feels. I have to feel like I can spend the next 3-5 years of my life there and that the position coach has my best interest in mind.”

2025 5-Star

“Definitely will be based on relationships and how my mom feels. She has to be able to see me play.”

*I thought that there was a lot to unpack here. I’ll be sure to leave some more thoughts below later. I’d love to hear what you all concluded from this deal.*

2023 5 Star Parent

2023 5 Star Parent

2023 5 Star Parent

2025 5-Star

“Definitely will be based on relationships and how my mom feels. She has to be able to see me play.”

*I thought that there was a lot to unpack here. I’ll be sure to leave some more thoughts below later. I’d love to hear what you all concluded from this deal.*

Anybody that has listened to Terrell's podcast shouldn't be surprised by any of this.

I haven’t. Are you meaning that this has been well established or he has a bias and lacks credibility?

Terrell is very critical of the Texas Program. His most consistent whine is Texas not offering local guys early. Some highlights include verbal sobbing about Latrell McCutchin and Caleb Burton. Terrell has a narrative and he picked out the quotes that help his narrative. He's not biased, he's a 9.95er.

Also how in the hell does Terrell know what 2025 recruits are 5 stars? Let's wait on some varsity film before we start anointing junior high players 5 star recruits.

“Hmmmmm. Tradition. They don’t recruit as hard as others. They rely on the big name more than building relationships so far. My son is disenchanted with them right now.”

Texas hasn't offered what A&M is offering.

I hate to tell you, but the football team at Ohio State is going to pull pretty girls. The top end talent at a college with 50k students is going to be just fine even if the median is a lot lower.

Not sure which underlined statement is more WTF.  Some stupid kids and parents in that '23 class to be honest.

I would take Darius's Q&A with a big grain of salt.  He's always very negative and critical of the program.

He's been critical of some petty items, most of the time he is defending nonsensical takes from Will. My ears say his frustration is with our coaching, administration and working to have Shemar gives us a real look.

I mean I know who Shemar Turner is. But how's he relate to Darius being pissy about UT?

JFC tex, you're a recruiting junkie and know that our rep in South Dallas is not good. When you don't have bags or titles, you end up being the target of the mob selling anything but Texas.

I'd never read anything about him and assumed he was a regular recruiting writer - dude played before I cared about the roster below the stars. Looked him up and found the DeSoto connection, which is what I'd been missing - why he'd care about Shemar Turner more than any other frustrating recruitment.

Thanks to all for the history on Terrell. Agenda or not, unless some are made up which no one is alleging , the comments are disturbing. Hopefully a small sample size that more reflects on the prior staff than the current one.

Alternatively, knowing what we know about this staff, their early returns, Terrell's agenda, and the fact that the comments are anonymous, the comments aren't disturbing at all and are literally meaningless.

Coming in as a new staff and without even having the ability to see recruits in person they have closed on a few big targets and they are right in the mix with pretty much every target we could reasonably hope for. They have secured official visits with most of them when they will finally be able to meet prospects in person and make some big moves in some of those recruitments and close out the leans. All while recruiting has been at a standstill across the country for the past few months. We're fine.

Regarding Terrell, I don't think anything is made up. I do think that getting takes from guys like Abor and the handler for someone like Miller is a part of what he reported, and that shit is laughable.

Anthony James and Pettaway as well.

Mike at Night: More on Blue, new out of state DL name to watch

Spoiler

— The big news of the day is that Jaydon Blue will opt out of his senior season at Klein Cain. Sources near Blue alerted us to the possibility early in the day but asked us to hold off as Blue wanted to make the announcement. Blue had a lot of carries over the last few years and sat out for some of spring practice to try and maintain his body. I was told he and his family came to the decision for him to get healthy before moving on to the next level. Blue was already planning on enrolling early at Texas. While I’m not sure it’s beneficial for kids to not play in a lot of cases, running back is a position where the year off won’t hurt and could even help. I was told that Blue’s commitment status isn’t affected by this and he communicated everything properly to the Texas staff.

— There’s a development I’m keeping an eye on but it’s still premature. There is one member of the Texas class considering opening his recruitment, but from what I know it’s still in the decision process. As you guys know, when a kid isn’t that far down the line I won’t release his name because many times those decisions die after a bit of thinking it over. Visits can’t come soon enough as this staff is built to shine while hosting players in Austin.

— On a more positive note, Texas has been quietly making progress with an out of state defensive lineman. I spoke with Jersey City (NJ) St. Peters Prep defensive tackle KJ Miles earlier today. Miles was originally offered by Chris Ash last year but he’s been quiet over the last few months. Texas continued to engage with him under the new staff and he will make a visit to Austin on June 25. Miles spoke highly of the Longhorns and I believe they are in his top 2-3 schools. Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Virginia and USC are the other favorites, but Texas will get the last visit and Miles will decide shortly after. Watch out for the Longhorns in this one.

"What do you think the Devil is going to look like if he's around? Nobody is going to be taken in if he has a long, red, pointy tail. No. I'm semi-serious here. He will look attractive and he will be nice and helpful and he will get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation and he will never do an evil thing... he will just bit by little bit lower standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance... Just a tiny bit. And he will talk about all of us really being salesmen. And he'll get all the great women."

He's showing us who he is, so we shouldn't be surprised or complain when he sits out half the games during his time on campus because of some bump or bruise in his pursuit of "the next level". He's not the number 1 TB on the board and this, to me, has me rooting for Texas to do what it takes to get Miller, even if that means Blue heads elsewhere.

I'm not sure why it's a "kids today" rant versus viewing this kind of action as bullshit showing a lack of character. There is no honor in skipping a senior season of HS football and bailing out on your teammates because you think you've got some higher mission with the sport. There is no love or passion for the game from someone taking his kind of course. It comes across as empty and selfish and easy to root against. If that's not very woke of me, I don't give even the tiniest fuck.
