Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

I had Waynes Wing's in San Antonio after a rec from Surly. While the wings were good and had a lot of meat on the bone I found them to not be my style. I prefer a pluckers/wing stop style wing where as this places wings were breaded then fried. My flavors I went with were lemon pepper hot and garlic parm.

Yep. They are more in the Austin Chicken House(rip) mold rather the pluckers. their Phillies are pretty legit tho, especially if Wayne is there

Huge Recruiting Weekend Ahead

Official and unofficial visitors:

RB Jamarion Miller, Legacy (Tyler, TX): Talk about timing. Getting the 5-foot-10.5, 185 pound tailback on campus this weekend is big. While running back recruiting in this cycle has been a tad disorienting, Miller is the pill to clear your head. He checks every box in the Steve Sarkisian running back book, and now the Horns get a shot at one of the top running backs in the south. The competition changes weekly, with Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Alabama as the likely competitors. Texas can put itself in position to win this recruitment this week.

OL Devon Campbell, Bowie (Arlington, TX) - UOV: After reporting last week the five-star offensive tackle would be in Austin this weekend, Campbell was a man of his word. After seeing OU and USC in an official capacity, Campbell will be making his third trip to the ATX in 2021. The 6-foot-3, 301-pounder with long arms is still very fond of the Longhorns and this weekend should only help solidify that.

OL Cameron Williams, Duncanville (Duncanville, TX): As offensive line recruiting unfolds, Williams remains a strong candidate in Austin. After being offered a few months back, UT and the massive offensive lineman have grown closer. He’s seen OU, Miami, and Texas Tech on official visits. Now, Kyle Flood has his say. If the final spot is him or Jacob Sexton, IT believes the Horns' chances are better with the DFW product.

TE Arlis Boardingham, Birmingham High (Van Nuys, CA) (June 24-26): If there’s one guy that doesn’t get mentioned enough, it’s Boardingham. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete/tight end has a lot of the qualities Jeff Banks holds dear. He was set to see Arizona State last week, but canceled. Boardingham is the most likely tight end take in the class at this point.

DB Bryce Anderson, West Brook (Beaumont, TX): This 1.5 day official visit is straight-forward, and about time spent between Steve Sarkisian and Anderson more than facilities, pictures, and whatever else. Anderson has all the data on both Texas and Texas A&M’s programs, and will not make a decision based on pomp and circumstance. This will come down to feeling most comfortable and putting his trust in a head coach, and the program he believes will develop him best at defensive back. If Sarkisian does his part, IT will like Texas’ chances quite a bit. If the chatter coming out of the OV isn’t great, Anderson will likely end up picking Texas A&M.

LB T.J. Dudley, Montgomery Catholic (Montgomery, AL): Dudley is an interesting prospect, but with Sebastian Cheeks and Jeremy Patton higher on the board, this feels like a contingency plan.

CB Jaylon Guilbeau, Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) #AllGasNoBrakes: UT has its hands full with Texas Christian lurking. The first commitment of the 2022 cycle, the four-star remains pledged to Texas, but not without a few potholes along the way. IT believes there is a better than 50-50 chance Guilbeau flips to TCU headed into the weekend.

DB Austin Jordan, Ryan (Denton, TX): UT has some hits and misses at Ryan High School in Denton. The four-star defensive back was once higher on the big board, but this new staff sees him behind a handful of others. This smells like OU, if he’s not a take for Ohio State.

DT Jaray Bledsoe, Marlin (Marlin, TX) - UOV: After arriving last night, the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder is near the top of the priority list for the Texas coaches. Bo Davis has done a terrific job of relationship building with the Bledsoes and earned points by emphasizing the importance of taking care of academics now. Bledsoe enrolled in summer school soon after to make sure he gets where he needs to be in terms of core classes. Getting him to visit now is important, because UT has to secure the official trip this fall.

DL Justice Finkley, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, AL): Finkley and his folks believe in the value of academics more than your usual prospect. That should benefit Texas. The 6-foot-2, 255-pounder notched 146 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks over the last two seasons at Hewitt. After seeing Stanford, Colorado and Michigan for official visits, Austin gets a look. The UT staff is high on the four-star from SEC country. Big weekend here.

DL Aaron Bryant, Southhaven (Southaven, MS): One of the more underrated defensive line targets in the country for the 2022 cycle. At 6-foot-4, 306 pounds, the three-star holds double digit offers including Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Texas A&M. He visited Athens and College Station for official trips already, and now gives the Horns a shot. Ole Miss might be a sleeper here, but Georgia looks solid today.

EDGE J’Mond Tapp, Ascension Catholic (Donaldsville, LA): The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder is a terror chasing quarterbacks. A four-star from Da Boot, he holds 19 offers including Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Florida. He took an unofficial to Baton Rouge on June 2nd, and you’d have to think the Tigers look good here. He’s a three-sport stud in football, basketball, and track and field (shot put, long jump).

EDGE Keahnist Thompson, Lakeland (Lakeland, FL): The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder from the Sunshine State is coveted by the Texas staff but he’s also a little redundant to new commit Anthony Jones. Thompson has visited UCF and Miami in June.

DE KJ Miles, Saint Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, NJ): After trips to Georgia Tech and Wisconsin, the 6-foot-3, 286-pound defensive lineman from up north is set to see UT this weekend. Miles holds 29 offers including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, USC, and Texas A&M, and is eager to see what Austin is about. In a year and a half of football, the four-star composite has tallied 55 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.

Priority targets:

OL Kam Dewberry, Atascocita (Humble, TX): IT spoke with a source on Thursday night who speaks with a family member of the long-armed offensive tackle. While the 6-foot-4, 315-pounder is visiting his personal favorite Ohio State this weekend, IT has always maintained that his family would keep him closer to home at the end of the day. The source told IT that the family member believes Texas A&M is the current leader, but Kam and family have warmed to Kyle Flood and the Longhorns have helped themselves quite a bit since the June 11-13 UOV.

OT Kelvin Banks, Summer Creek (Humble, TX): IT continues to hear the Longhorns are the heavy favorite entering the 6-foot-5, 295-pounders final official visit this weekend. Texas A&M will undoubtedly throw the kitchen sink at Banks. Banks and family have a very strong relationship with Longhorns offensive line coach Kyle Flood.

Texas’ eyes will also be on Tuscaloosa this weekend as the Crimson Tide host Denver Harris (North Shore) and Terrance Brooks (Little Elm) on official visits. IT has heard Alabama will offer a corner spot to Harris first and Brooks second. Both had great OV’s to Texas last weekend, and each is expected to make a commitment to a school prior to the start of their senior seasons, or in Harris’ case, just after.

Alabama trails Texas for Harris.

Dewberry was never a favorite for texas though right, so the fact that A&M is the leader isnt really a surprise?

Also I wonder what Fat Pat's schtick is to get Guilbeau to flip, and if thats why Austin Jordan is here on OV, incase Guilbeau does flip?

Dewberry is good, if a bit overrated, we like him. He's just good buddies with Kenyon Green and Atascosita is a hive of Houston exurb aggy.

More on five-star WR Evan Stewart and his recent official to Texas

More on five-star WR Evan Stewart and his recent official to Texas

Steve Wiltfong

If Texas is going to have the type of offense Steve Sarkisian wants in Austin, he needs players like five-star receiver Evan Stewart to do it.

The dynamic player out of Frisco (Texas) Liberty took his official to the Longhorns campus over the weekend and it helped the Big 12 program’s chances with the prized in-state recruit.

“The atmosphere was great,” Stewart said. “Nothing bad in Austin, Texas! The highlights were definitely the breakfast we had at Coach Sark’s house and the dinners!

“I learned how their thought process works and their minds of the game and intelligence. I have a new look at Texas now.”

Texas is battling Alabama, Florida, LSU, USC and Texas A&M for Stewart who at the recent Future 50 event in Bradenton, Fla. showed he is perhaps the top receiver in the 2022 class.

“The program looks like it’s going in a good direction,” Stewart told 247Sports at the event. “I want to see what they’re going to do this year and hopefully it’s impressive.”

Stewart has elite speed including a 10.5 100m dash to his name and he’s as explosive as it gets boasting a 24-6.5 long jump too. He’s incredibly confident, has outstanding ball skills and obviously makes things happen after the catch.

Stewart has three more officials available to him having taken just two with Florida getting the first one the first weekend of June.

Is there any concern that UT is using up all the official visit slots and won't have them available during the season?

Or has the thought process changed? Is UT going to largely full by the end of the summer, or is it going to be easier to get people to pick up the tab for unofficial visits?

As you may know, Sarkisian follows the recruiting methodologies of Mack Brown and Charlie Strong religiously. He is notorious for implementing early visits and locking up the silent commits of the entire class at Junior Day, but not announcing the commitments until they have already completed their first semester at UT.

Not at all. I think a lot of these kids are going to be committing in July and August. It is just a weird cycle due to Covid shutting down visits for over a year. Most of these kids would have already taken their OVs in the Spring and been committed already. The recruiting cycles for Top national kids is changing. I think OU nearly blew it, by wanting to wait until the fall. Plus, I think for a lot of these kids, it's easier to come in the fall for an UOV game day visit than spending an entire weekend, though some kids are waiting to the fall to take their OVs as well. I just don't think Texas could have waited on most of the guys at the top of their board.

Nah, every school is doing it. This class has less than 6 months to NSD1 so it's imperative to get a jump and show as much love to priority prospects as you can, especially given the 15+ months covid dead period. 2023 class will be different because those same variables won't be there.

In the thread Nahlin claimed that coming off his Texas visit high Harris almost cancelled his Alabama trip.

Between this and Anderson telling Saban "Hold up now, im taking my visit to Texas," when he tried to push him to commit, I like the way the class is looking.

I think part of that is that because visits to anywhere other than Tempe or Jimbo's ranch were shut down for so long, everyone, even committed players want to get some visits in now. So the hardball tactics like shutting down further visits are less likely to work.

It has been widely reported that Bryce will play in the state tournament until his team is out of contention, then make his way to Austin.

Beaumont West Brook is in Pool D with Azle, Atascocita, and Lewisville Hebron. The top two teams in each pool advance to the winners bracket that starts play Saturday morning and the bottom two to the losers bracket, also beginning Saturday morning. I am not plugged into 7v7, so questions:

  1. Is there any chance they don't make the top two in their pool?
  2. If they don't advance to the winners bracket, has it been reported that he would skip the losers bracket, or will he play until they're done playing entirely? I seem to remember the phrase "out of contention", but that could mean a few things

Here's the bracket for those interested

All of the play is also being streamed here

Let me answer your question with a question. Does Anderson strike you as the type that would leave his team mid-tourney regardless of results?

So A&M contacts him 3 times a week and says the same shit over and over again? Yep, sounds like aggy.

Also, 2 ways to read the comment about his  4th of July commitment. Either it’s already going to be UT unless UT fucks it up, or this is what A&M is offering so if you match I need to bump the date to figure out where I really want to go… so beauty in the eye of the beholder in that statement

Yeah could read into it a lot of ways. Maybe he's torn, maybe he is pretty sure but wants to confirm one way or another. 9.95ers on both sides seem to be hedging. ctj is the only one taking a stand so in ctj we trust.

Pretty much the opposite of Banks where 9.95ers on both sides are adamant they're in the lead.
