Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

IT Scoop Recruiting Matters

By: Justin, Gerry, and Eric

WR Brenen Thompson, Spearman (Spearman, TX) - 2022: Texas and the speedster from Spearman continue to stay close as the 5-foot-10, 165-pound four-star begins his senior campaign. Thompson hit the road hard this summer with stops at Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Oklahoma State. He's scheduled to see UT in an official capacity on September 18th-19th for the Rice game, and hit Stillwater for an unofficial visit vs Missouri State in week 1.

Thompson wants to drop a Top 3 before his season begins, with UT and Texas A&M almost assuredly in the mix, with Oregon and Okie State hanging around the rim. Thompson always wanted to play relatively close to home, and all of the above, outside the Ducks, hit that mark (relatively speaking).

Coach Steve Sarkisian and his crew keep close tabs on the west Texas turbo booster and he knows he's a priority. His timeline is undecided, but he certainly wants to take his remaining trips before narrowing down that decision. Getting Thompson back in Austin would be a big development as it feels like the Aggies have gained ground here over the last month or so.

OL Devon Campbell, Bowie (Arlington, TX) - 2022: After seeing Campbell on Friday night, the Horns remain the team to beat for the nation's top-rated offensive guard. He loves that Texas offered first, the new staff re-offered and actually push him the most.

He's built a fantastic relationship with Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood, and Chris Gilbert, and will return to the ATX for an official this fall, along with Alabama and LSU trips to be planned.

At 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, the highly-coveted offensive mauler is likely to announce in December, so the Horns just have to hold the reins.

OL Neto Umeozulu, Allen (Allen, TX) - 2022: The 6-foot-4, 305-pound four-star can be kind of an enigma at times, but after his USC official visit, he still has a number to use this fall. It's hard to get a read here and that goes for the Allen staff, too, not just writers.

LSU offered his little brother, Zina Umeozulu, over the weekend and we’d be surprised if the Horns and Aggies didn't follow suit soon. Neto likes Kyle Flood and what he's brought from Alabama, and proximity also benefits the in-state suitors.

After taking a few unofficials to Austin in 2021, we can certainly see him back at Texas for a game this fall.

OL Kam Dewberry, Atascocita (Humble, TX) - 2022: The 6-foot-4, 313-pound four-star recently proclaimed he'd take an official visit to UT this fall and then also catch another Texas game. That's rather large with Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas A&M squarely in the mix. He even claims Texas is pushing him the hardest, but we believe he's like many top targets in August; he wants to see what the Horns do on the field in 2021.

His timeline remains undecided with a decision likely later in the year, possibly December. UT has time to make up more ground in these sweepstakes. OU might be the team to beat as of right now.

DL Aaron Bryant, Southaven (Southaven, MS) - 2022: The On300 defensive tackle from Mississippi is set to announce his decision on August 26th with the Longhorns leading the pack. The competition is Texas A&M and Ole Miss, with Georgia lurking, but those close to the 6-foot-4, 306-pound four-star feel like Texas might be the call at the end of the day. Ole Miss will fight to get an official visit in the fall, even if Bryant does follow through and commit to Texas. Texas A&M could be short on room on the interior with plenty of big fish still out there in 2022.

DL Justice Finkley, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, AL) - 2022: The 6-foot-2, 255-pound EDGE has been a priority for the Horns for months. The staff killed the official visit with the Finkley family, and with the four-star's Top 3 of UT, Alabama, and Colorado, the Horns are eager to get him back on campus.

He told reporters last week a decision could be "very soon.”

We know how much emphasis his family puts on academics. Any player in Alabama that Nick Saban wants is extremely difficult to snag, but if the academic angle is real, and we believe it is here, then the Horns have a solid shot.

For those wondering, IT was told again Sunday that Alabama does want the On300 EDGE/defensive line prospect. Would he really pick books before ball? We’ll see.

DL Jaray Bledsoe, Marlin (Marlin, TX) - 2022: Texas and Texas A&M lead the pack with TCU beginning to charge hard and Baylor running fourth. The change in Bledsoe’s recruitment is the decision to stay in state barring a late run by Alabama. Bo Davis has a very solid relationship with Bledsoe and family. This recruitment will play out through the official visit process in the fall, barring a major change.

WR Evan Stewart, Liberty (Frisco, TX) - 2022: There is some quiet confidence on the Texas side in the recruitment of the five-star receiver. With that said, this will be an entertaining recruitment with Florida, LSU and Alabama squarely in the mix. Texas A&M will continue to push.

CB Denver Harris, North Shore (Houston, TX) - 2022: A notable crystal ball went in Alabama’s favor this weekend for the On3 five-star corner. However, since Harris hasn’t committed anywhere yet, and wont until he watches some actual games, that crystal ball is more of an understandable guess. Texas continues to plug away and has done well with certain family members. That’s been a theme of the cycle, however, even with key targets Texas has missed on (see below). Steve Sarkisian has been active in this recruitment and has built a strong relationship with Denver’s father. This will be Denver’s decision but Mr. Harris’ input is valued. Texas will host yet another Zoom with Denver and his father this evening.

Texas is not giving up on five-star CB and Ohio State verbal Terrance Brooks (Little Elm) and four-star OT and Oregon verbal Kelvin Banks (Summer Creek). The Texas staff remains in contact with key people in the circles of both prospects.

We’ll add team early afternoon. We’ve been hitting that hard and there isn’t too much to write.

Why would that help? University just blocks shit.

I think it'd be a huge help. While every other finalist talks about their deals and pimps their products, Bijan can just sit there and not do any of that, just to show the nation's recruits that you don't need deals and to make money "to get this far!"

On the bright side, at least Tom ended our shot at Ewers last year so we could go ahead and get the pain out of the way. Can you imagine how fucking crazy this board would be right now if Ewers, just in this past week, had flipped to and enrolled at Ohio State because our NIL was shit? Holy fuck, maybe that'd be what it took to get those fuckers going.

Are you going to publish this as satyanash erotic fan fiction?  Because if so, I will give you negative $9.95 for this content.

Why would the nations recruits want to see that?  Unless he's getting paid large money in some other way that's a bad bad thing for us.

This is dead nuts. Most people remember and love the Austin of old. Times have changed, people have changed. Families are moving to the burbs to get away from the big city life. A lot of these kids don't see these big cities and probably don't like it honestly. Kids from California are used to it. Parents here in Texas probably think Austin is too liberal for their kids and those thoughts might rub off on those kids.

I mean the area around the University where the football players are hanging out in is pretty much the same as it is ever been. I mean they don't need to worry about the high cost of housing. They get to live there for free. And as mentioned football players don't have a whole lot of time to worry about that stuff anyway they are going to be spending a ton of time in the athletic facility or dealing with their crazy busy schedule. It doesn't really matter whether you are in Seattle at UW or in Manhattan Kansas your life as a football player is not going to be too different.

And if everybody is leaving Austin, that would be great. I can finally afford to move back downtown. This must be one of those: it is so crowded that nobody goes there anymore jokes. Also I like the idea that there are no big cities in Texas. Dallas and Houston and San Antonio just don't exist. Everybody in Texas lives in small towns and nobody in California does. Nope. They all live in San Francisco and LA. No small towns in all of California, all the kids there are used to it.

Yeah the main "I can't imagine living or going to college in Austin anymore" have lived in a DFW suburb for the last 30 years and come to ATX for a football game and maybe one business meeting per year.

But what about women romancing women?

If you don't say "women romancing each other", folks might get the wrong idea and think you're talking about an infinite chain of women, each romancing the next. Like Yertle the Turtle, but with women and romance

Ewers would never have come here because the whole skipping his Senior year thing would have upset the almighty TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES if he did it to come here. Its totally fine for OSU though Ryan Day will still get sucked off at every THSCA meeting

That's a great point. Texas has to deal with the THSCA whining at them non the fuck stop and just incessantly bitching about how Texas coaches don't call them and fluff them within 15 seconds of being hired and on and on and on the fuck on. It never fucking stops and it never feels like Texas high school coaches make any effort at all to steer kids to UT but fall all over themselves for everyone else. They are all just a bunch of titty babies.

Man, I don't want to make this too political, but I am probably the best person to say this to you but.....

Did you forget what color football players are and what is the overwhelming voting trend of that particular demographic? The last thing these moms are going to be worried about is something being too liberal. When my brother went to Aggy, my mom was specifically worried about College Station and how my brother would be treated there. That was not the case for me. I hate to break it to you. Austin was always "Texas Liberal". It's just you didn't notice that when you were an idealistic kid yourself, but it was, and each generation pushes it a little further and further along. It's just that we are the olds now, and have long since hit the wall on our comfort level. Rest assured though, Austin IS NOT Cali. It has a long way to go to even be close.

I hate that this is going to get political, but it does play its part, and I may as well throw in: just because black people largely vote democrat over republicans and conservatives, doesn't mean they're "liberal." Most of the black people I know who yes, vote democrat, don't just fall in line on all of the normal liberal issues because of that vote. Just because they vote democrat doesn't mean they want their kids running a gauntlet of tweekers on a quiet Sunday afternoon just trying to get a burger at Casino El Camino. It's not as easy as just "liberal" or "conservative," or Austin would have all of your black recruits all of the time hashtagErrybody.

That's it, that's the tweet.

Yep.  Where are the best players playing?  The SEC.  How many of those cities are actually liberal?  Austin's liberalness is not a plus or minus.

I dont venture into CR and try to avoid most political stuff on other subs, but it's a fallacy to equate voting tendencies with someone agreeing with all policies of the left or right..especially when it comes to the extreme of each ideology.

We need WR and Oline in the worse way

If we can land Thompson, Stewart at WR with Campbell and Allen on O-Line that’s a win in my book idc what rank we have.

not to mention if we can flip Hudson and Get Dewberry also.

You’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
