Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Watch Brooks sign with tOSU and then Kerry Coombs leave right after. Which is why NSD1 is dumb..

The smoke about Coombs is out there. If Brooks signing to tOSU is contingent on him being coached by Coombs then he can wait to sign on NSD2. No one is forcing him to sign on NSD1.

Seems like BJ is hitting the portal a little late. Wonder is there is a place he is targeting. He might ended up getting burned.

So when is the optimum time to enter the portal ??

A lot a variables to consider including coaches leaving, new staffs being built as we speak, what spot is open assuming a stud doesn't come in on signing day that has a guaranty he'll immediately be starting...

So best time to portal ??

Real quick Friday Kelvin Banks update

Brian Perroni

Josh Henson used his weekly visit to see Banks at school on Wednesday. The Aggies are waiting to use Jimbo Fisher's until January. Steve Sarkisian is still expected in today and you can bet that Texas will try hard to get him to sign early. Banks said this week, though, that he plans to wait and others around him said the same thing. It would seem to be an honest statement as he put out a plea for social media followers and said he would have news on Dec. 15 if he gets to the level. That pretty much always means a graphic with a top group.

As for other schools, both Alabama and Clemson have been by in the latter part of this week as well. Banks mentioned those two, along with Michigan and obviously Miami with Cristobal, as schools that were coming on strong since he decommitted. I think he stays in state but Alabama and Clemson are going to continue to recruit him. He is out of official visits, so would have to use unofficials in January if he wanted to see either place.

Harvdog with the timely update, as always. About as timely as his realization that his son's best friend/bully isn't, actually, a great kid.

You may have beaten that drum more relentlessly than anyone with anything on this site other than Randy Duke about aggy.  And yet, I still don't know if you mention it enough for my tastes.

The most important thing when entering the portal is to pick your target and pick a good trajectory to get to that target.  You have to anticipate your competition's moves, and adjust accordingly.  Once you get within striking distance, you must strike quickly and decisively and wrap that opportunity up.  Otherwise you will likely get burned with mud in teeth while your opportunity races past you.

Humidor:

RECRUITING

This Saturday the staff will have one last opportunity to host recruits before signing day next Wednesday. Here are some notes for your consumption as we enter crunch time.

#22EFFECT DAY, Austin, TX

QB Quinn Ewers, Southlake Carroll (Southlake, TX) - 2021

The former five-star and Ohio State quarterback is returning to Austin. After stops in Lubbock and Fort Worth, as well as an in-home with new Texas Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley, it’s time for Steve Sarkisian to close the book on this recruitment once and for all.

IT has liked UT’s chances since earlier in the week when it became known Ewers was working to find out where the state’s top players were leaning and he was receiving solid feedback regarding Texas.

WR DeColdest Crawford, Green Oaks (Shreveport, LA) - 2022: Maybe

We haven’t confirmed with Crawford he’ll visit. When IT talked to him earlier in the week he said he might be in Austin. We’ve heard from others he’s expected in town and it makes sense given we know he was excited about the initial interest, plus UT needs receivers. If Texas pushes hard here it has a good chance to lock up the recent LSU de-commitment.

WR Johntay Cook, Desoto (Desoto, TX) - 2023

If there’s a party in Austin, there’s a solid chance the On3 four-star might show up. Cook remains one of UT’s top receiver targets for 2023 and getting him back on campus this weekend is an even larger development. Texas needs to give him reason to be optimistic about quarterback and one way to do that is to have him visit when Ewers is in town.

TE Lafayette Kaiuway, Sam Houston (Arlington, TX) - 2023

The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder might be unranked by On3, but that won’t last long. With offers from Texas, Ole Miss, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Boston College, the junior tight end appears to have caught the eye of the UT staff. He’s high up the 2023 TE board and is one to watch down the road as a potential Horn.

OL Kelvin Banks, Summer Creek (Humble, TX) - 2022: Maybe

The On3 five-star tackle re-opened his commitment this week and not a moment too soon. Texas and Texas A&M have remained in the hunt for the 6-foot-5, 315-pound monster, with Alabama trying to slide into the conversation. If he truly wants to stay closer to home, it’ll likely be the Longhorns if he signs next week. If he holds off until February, LSU and Texas A&M will come back into the picture more. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal made an in-home Wednesday night, but IT was told that the Hurricanes aren’t likely the destination, as of Friday afternoon.

Bottom line: IT is watching to see if he signs. The feeling on this one is he will not push his decision to February but we don’t know for sure. If he signs Wednesday, UT has the best odds.

OL Kam Dewberry, Atascocita (Humble, TX) - 2022: Friday or Saturday

It’s hard to miss the 6-foot-5, 310-pound On3 four-star. He plans to visit Austin and College Station over the weekend before preparing to make his decision on December 15th. This race began with 30+ offers, but Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma appear to be all that’s left standing. Mom prefers Texas A&M. Kam prefers path to the field quickest.

A&M is most likely.

OL Devon Campbell, Bowie (Arlington, TX) - 2022: Maybe

The Campbell recruitment took a few turns this week with a potential USC trip and Georgia visit were in the mix. Much like NASCAR, those turns took him right back to where he started. The visits didn’t happen and Texas remains in the driver’s seat.

UT is in a position of strength in this recruitment.

OL Cam Williams, Duncanville (Duncanville, TX) - 2022: Maybe

After de-committing from Oregon, the 6-foot-5, 350-pounder is the fourth 2022 prospect to back off their Oregon commitment since Mario Cristobal left for Miami. Williams visited Miami in June, and Cristobal was by Duncanville this week to work on the athletic big man. Just how much does Cristobal covet Williams? He asked a national recruiting analyst at a high school game in Texas earlier this season if that person though Banks or Williams had the highest upside? Chalk that one up as interesting. UT and Texas A&M look to be the contenders, but watch out for a recent offer from TCU. TCU is trying to get Williams on campus Sunday and of course the Horned Frogs have the Samples ties.

There’s a good chance Williams will push his decision to February.

LB Anthony Hill Jr, Ryan (Denton, TX): 2023: After a tremendous junior season for the Ryan Raiders, the On3 consensus five-star continues to rise up the rankings. The No. 2 linebacker in 2023 is focused on track and field and 7v7 this off-season, he tells IT. Texas A&M, Ohio State, and OU are among his top suitors. He’s visited UT a ton of times already, and hitching a ride with Austin Jordan is eco friendly.

DB Xavion Brice, Seguin (Arlington, TX) (OU) - 2022 (OFFICIAL VISIT): The On3 four-star hosted Texas and OU in the last 24 hours, and is set to see Austin this weekend. Brice visited UT last summer with teammate and current 2023 Texas pledge Jamel Johnson. While he visited Lubbock last weekend, it appears the Oklahoma pledge is focusing on the Sooners and Longhorns.

Brice is expected to wait until February to make his decision.

ATH Savion Red, Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, TX) - 2022 (OFFICIAL VISIT):

The former SMU commit is set for his official visit to Austin this weekend. At 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, the underrated athlete might be a tailback take in this cycle. With very few offers, Red appears to be a prospect Texas would like to slide into this class. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will have to make the ultimate decision if Red is what he sees as helping elevate the talent level in the program.

People familiar with the Grand Prairie program rave about Red like he’s a can’t miss stud.

COMMITS from 2022 —

OL Cole Hutson, Frisco (Frisco, TX)
EDGE Derrick Brown, Texas High (Texarkana, TX):
LB Trevell Johnson, Martin (Arlington, TX)
DB Austin Jordan, Ryan (Denton, TX)
DB Jaylon Guilbeau, Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) - 2022: Texas A&M has been contemplating throwing a late offer at the On3 Consensus 4-star with On3 Consensus 5-star Jacoby Mathews (Ponchatoula, LA.) slipping away to Alabama or LSU.

**Westlake’s Connor Robertson and North Shore’s Kristopher Ross are still competing in the playoffs. Aledo’s BJ Allen won’t make it this weekend.

A huge in-home visit tonight

CB Denver Harris, Houston (North Shore, TX): The coaching carousel has been extremely kind to Texas this cycle and it may benefit the coaches on the recruiting trail yet again in the recruitment of five-star cornerback Denver Harris. Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko isn’t expected to return to A&M. This is on the heels of LSU losing its best selling point in Harris‘ recruitment in cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond. Losing Elko doesn’t kill A&M’s chances like losing Raymond did for LSU, but it does help UT.

Long an afterthought, A&M made up ground at the end with an aggressive pitch while also assembling a strong class. At the same time, UT’s defense vastly underperformed.

Tonight, the Texas coaches have one last chance to put their best foot forward. To not only sell Harris on why UT is the best option for him, but to also convince him he’ll be joined by more top recruits in this very class.

Bottom line: Check back tomorrow. A lot rides on how well tonight goes.

I feel like the problem here is that IT has no downside to saying that he will sign next week. They can hope that the Sark in-home convinces Banks to sign, and if he doesn’t, they can just say that Banks changed his mind.

It's not just BP saying that Banks told him he's pushing back his commitment to February.  Suchomel, Harris and Roach all echoed the same thing.  I think Harris was the first one to actually get the quote from Banks at the Football awards thing that happened a couple nights ago.

I'm holding out hope that Flood/Banks/Sark can close this out.  Wasn't there someone saying he and his family were getting really tired of the whole process?

Honestly, i don't know why we don't take a flyer on Kevin Coleman? He's rated as a 5*, and since we aren't getting Stewart we might as well see if Coleman can live up to the hype.

LMAO, I know we said no articles about Ian Boyd but this post of him defending Brockermeyer and his unathletic ass.

Made all the more frustrating by watching Jaylan Ford come in all season and improve the defense for a few snaps only to be pulled over and over. How dare he play on the offense's side of the LOS. Watching Ford make 2 TFLs put Kansas in 3rd and very long and then be pulled only to have Kansas score on 3rd and long when Brockermeyer couldn't get to the edge when they ran the same exact play was peak Choate substitution.  Injury forcing Brockermeyer out only exacerbated that frustration because Texas was far better across the board, but specifically in that C-Gap run support vs an opponent in KState that is dangerous off-tackle. If they had played Ford all year he'd have developed via experience and put himself in a position to make a nice leap into 2022 --  Hell, he'd have improved our D this year because he was better in limited snaps by a large margin.

Save advice considering this was the infamous source off during the summer where IT folks were adamant about it being Texas… despite everyone else saying Texas was out and it was an Aggy/Oregon battle.

Hope IT doesn’t get duped again here.

Yes - the source is the actual words coming out of the kids mouth.  But it also wouldn't be crazy for the kid/family to decide to shut it down and sign on NSD1.  If he was tired of people being up his ass 247 - the best way to put them off is to tell them he's signing NSD2.

We'll see what happens.

On the bright side, sources on all sides seem to have UT in the lead for Banks at the moment. The question is whether he signs next week or drags it out until NSD2 giving more time for us to blow it.

IT didn’t specifically say that a source said he’d decide to sign early, just “the feeling.” If they do end up right then kudos to them but it’s pretty hard not to take the kid’s own words at face value on something like that.
Geeze Perroni is blowing up this kids phone by the hour.  Shut it down Kelvin.

Pretty good way to rush him into signing early lol
