Clearly:

  • Saban is retiring. Assistants are aware and are making plans for their future
  • Ofc we're not dumpster diving to fill up WR. When Coleman is replaced, they'll bring a starter with them
  • Holmon Wiggins has (reportedly) the best relationship with Preston of the schools recruiting him

Draw your own conclusions.

would love to hear @closetojumping take on this. is saban finally retiring?

Saban isn't retiring for at least a few more seasons or at the soonest next season. They will have a graceful transition of power, Saban owes it to Alabama they have paid him well, given him everything he's asked for from a facilities perspective and he's won and continues to win.

Coleman isn't going anywhere, the class will fill out itself.

Thank you for your very earnest response to my message board post.

Any others you think might get processed out?  I know you assholes have been trying to get that Swanson kid out of the class since he committed - did the Senior hudl abate any of those feelings?

Swanson's Sr. Huddle is really frieking good. I made a comment about him earlier, but I think that kid could be a monster. He is super disruptive and has some legit pass rush skills with some very good athleticism. His Sr. hudl is essentially 5 minutes worth of TFLs and sacks. He could be the Van Filinger that we missed on last year.

Would explain the ongoing dismantling of Clemson.

not wearing that specific tin foil hat but I have a friend who knows people in the machine (at MUCH lower levels than CTJ) but he swears Dabo is only leaving for 1 job - Bama.

people quickly forget this:

People don't forget about that, it's literally mentioned all the time. Anyways Saban isn't leaving soon so it doesn't matter.

What is the logic in taking a long snapper as a recruited player? Isn't this normally a position that you can find someone currently on the roster to do and not have to take up a scholarship?

A good long snapper will rarely win you a game. They can definitely lose one, though.

1992 recruiting class: https://www.texaslsn.org/john-mackovic

Mackovic signs a recruiting class of offensive lineman who earned their moniker the “class of beef.”

Edit: list conflicts with what @Handcruser posts above, defer to that.

Thanks for settling it. I am getting old and memory is not what it use to be so that is why I said it gingerly.

User name and all for me but this is the kind of shit Bill Belichick does with the Patriots.  He always seems to draft a long snapper and specific guys to be gunners on special teams along with the return specialist type guys.  He apparently thinks special teams is a key to a football team's success and makes sure that there are key people in those positions.  Not sure if that works in college with the limited scholarships.

This is a common NFL practice.  The NFL is more limited on special teams because of roster limits (53 vs a travel limit of 70 in NCAA).  There's simply no room for ST-dedicated positions with the exception of P/K.  As an example, it's normal to cut a good #2/3 RB to pick up one who is viewed as worse but will be a returner.  Same with snapper and center, backup LBs and safeties must be able to play coverage, etc.

Still, ST specialists getting a scholarship is becoming more and more of a thing in NCAA.  LS is the next logical step.

Counterpoint: Saban hasn’t looked at there. I honestly hope he doesn’t have health issues.

No shit. Show me in what universe aggie is equal to Texas and ahead of Ohio State, Bama, etc. And where fucking Arkansas is more valuable than USC. Gotta be the worst valuation list ever.

They are using a 3 year average based upon the funny aggy math regarding their stadium improvements donations listed as revenue...

If you look at the methodology and where those #s are coming from it is easy to realize it is garbage.

It's worse than that ~70% of the stadium is bonded.  They are counting debt as revenue.

In consecutive years, Sark has had a WR win the Heisman followed by another win the Freshman All American honors (with herpa derpa QB and OLs), yet Stewart finds Demond Demas' stats more appealing. 🤣🤣🤣

Stewart's dad finds the big bag of cash more appealing.
