Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

I polled some folks yesterday, and didn't get too much of a response because they were all pretty busy. That being said, this feels like the best, well thought out, fully constructed class we've had in a long time. It's light on LB. but I mean, the work in the trenches, at all spots, plucking a 5 star level CB on signing day, and a generational QB...it has to be the best class we've had in well over a decade in regards to team needs and fit.

Get me a stud WR from the portal soon, and we're going to be in business.

Especially when you consider our 5-7 record, this is a heck of a class. Definitely need some portal WR and LB but otherwise excellent class.

People just whining because Aggy bagged a historic class despite their own disappointing season. Which is understandably annoying.

He's a composite top 100 player, I don't think anyone is sleeping on him especially with that 10.3 speed.

I like the idea of Law at receiver with his speed and that guy is just a pure football player. Hopefully he has soft hands.

Worthy 10.5-10.6 100m
Law 10.4-10.5 100m

Brennan thompson 10.2-10.3 100m

That is serious serious speed.

Yeah, I'm excited about Brennan, but also fully aware that only having 3 receiving threats (one who is injury prone) isn't enough and we need more help there.

and those Dline recruits should make it a lot easier on whomever is playing LB.

Yeah that's part of it for sure.

But those same people should take comfort knowing the ags are pissed off in their own right, knowing they purchased an historic class, but they truly believed that after a 5-7 season Texas recruiting was dead and buried, yet here we are.  They might not admit it, but for many of them, that has really spoiled their enjoyment of their own class.

Yeah bro it’s hard to defend him. He coaches receivers who can’t catch and he didn’t recruit a swinging dick this cycle. He owes Thompson’s recruiting victory to Jordan freaking Shipley. His ass needs to be gone and I think he probably is considering that I didn’t see him in that terry joseph video yesterday.

No. We didn't. We also didn't have all the anecdotal information we have on the other players.

I'll tell you what, I'll take a bet of the amount of your choosing that we're not landing Stewart or Harris.

Abgo and Perkins are irrelevant to discuss, they're not signing until NDS2. There's optimism, which is fine (if misplaced) and then there is literally making shit up that isn't possible, much less likely. Not everyone here is a trust the coaches, rah rah because I want a fucking excuse to rah rah because you're a weirdo who also likes jerking off, but not to completion and wallowing in your blue balls. If you want to do that, great, just go do it privately. If you want to continue to share stupid sentiment here, most folks are going to tell you to STFU and that you're an idiot.

It's a message board. "Psych yourself out" is a weird concept to have. And some of us have actually worked to help the football program in tangible ways.

Brenen was barely mentioned as part of the amazing haul we had yesterday, and people continued all day yesterday with "We need to sign a WR. What are we doing with WR? Are we gonna get Stewart/Shazz/Armani/Law/ etc.? Really, we're going with Savion Red as our WR?" .  That's what I meant by "sleeping on him".

I think he got a little forgotten in this class, but he's one I'm super excited about.

Was scanning the signee list yesterday and was surprised to see so many schools with less than twenty signees, and many in the low teens.

Don’t know if that is unusual or not, or a reflection this year of a higher reliance on the portal or Covid hangovers. Either way, Texas is bringing in way more high school early signing talent than a lot of schools this year, as promised.

Red was recruited as a RB. Just because he wasn't mentioned yesterday doesn't mean he's being slept on. Be thankful he wasn't mentioned much yesterday because that would have been a negative thing for us...he's a locked in commit that is cut and dry signing, not sure what more you want. The mentioning of all the guys you listed has more to do with the fact that overall our receiving room is one big heaping pile of dog shit that needs to be elevated by more bodies than just 1 person.

It’s insane, Sark said yesterday that we could have around 40% of our roster being new players by fall camp.

🤔🤔 when did I say we were getting Harris and Stewart??  Only thing I said was instead of always being negative try a little positivity and let’s hope we get the rest of our targets cause it’s definitely not of the realm of possibility with the way this recruiting cycle has gone. . . If you don’t that’s cool, but why bring others down cause they don’t share your same mindset

Re: Non-Limus

What's the current feeling about Blue's prospects here? He signed. He didn't play last year. What's the feeling?

He's a top 3 national talent, with questions about his attitude/teamwork/buy-in/dedication/knuckle-headedness . Not quite on the level of Zach Evans, but still questions. If the team culture during his tenure is similar to what we saw in 2020, he'll probably be a bust. If the team culture gets sorted out and player-led accountability returns, he could be a top-10 all-time Texas RB.

Don't start fucking jerking off in vain to guys who aren't coming here. Enjoy the fact we're still in it for Mathews, Campbell and Abor for NSD2, and we could get Law on Friday.

But..... that's sort of our thing

2) I'm telling you it's out of the realm of possibility.

3.) You're whole posting cycle here is literally telling other people that they're wrong for not having YOUR mindset.

finishing with those two are great and far from complaint worthy.

Yeah- I wasn't saying that would be a bad finish- merely that's the most realistic scenario that's plausibly optimistic.  If we got Harris and Stewart and Perkins and the OL from California and Mathews on top of those two it would be orgasmic. It's not going to happen.

I view that not as jerking off in vain for players we're not getting, and more of a justifiable criticism of the staff and administration that fucked up their recruitments. Entirely different. One is constructive criticism. The other is Satya porn.

I think people are sleeping on Brenen Thompson. He's a low floor/high ceiling dude, but if he can get a little more muscle on him and stays healthy, he could be great.

Serious and likely dumb question:  are there examples of small receivers who played small school competition who have gone on to ball out / ball out early on big stage?

I really like the kid but it's also not reassuring to know that my ass would have been good enough (i.e. a barely athletic warm body) to play for most of the teams he's owning in his tape.  Did he dominate 7 on 7 circuit against better competition?

I'm glad he's stepping into a RB room with excellent leadership in Bijan and Rojo. Drayton would've been a good influence so that may hurt.

But yeah seems like his rating drop was all off-field issues. He was the #1 ranked RB beforehand.

No, everyone should relax because we signed an outstanding, well thought out class. And we have good shots for a few more guys for NSD2. You were wrong to tell people "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN GUYS HOLD THE LINE STOP BEING NEGATIVE." There's a difference.

I honestly don't know. But I mean, with worthy and perhaps another WR schematically causing issues. Thompson really only needs to be able to catch the ball cleanly on WR screens and start running to either exploit coverage weaknesses, or to just eat up a CB to take him out of the play. Anything else is gravy, imo. Hell, if we can make him decent at getting off press, even better, but that's probably asking a lot of a small freshman if he's playing wide.

Off the top of my head, Jaylen Waddle played 4A. Jordan Whittington played 4A.

Sark didn't forget and mentioned him in his PC. Was a good perspective on Spearman and the lives of small town Texas high school football players.

Sark's comments spoke well of the methodical nature of this rebuild and him choosing the right ballers like Brenen. I'm excited for Thompson as well.

he is a shitty (high school) team mate.

if Texas had better options they liked more and could have gotten, he wouldn't have been in this class.

if Texas could have dumped him to keep Miller, they probably would have.

the odds of him playing meaningful snaps at Texas based on his last 12 months isn't super high.

he is really damn good at football.

Thought of it second I clicked submit:  It's a different world now but the obvious high profile Longhorn example would be Jordan Shipley.  Burnet was 3A at the time but that was also before the classifications expanded.   The talent on the roster his first two years at UT was better but he didn't really take off until his third year in the program (16 and 27 touches his first two seasons).

I don't know man- I think people view him as a fast guy who has the chance at being a deep threat but not somebody you are going to count on to move the ball consistently down the field.
Will it be good to have another guy who can rip the top off? Sure.  But that doesn't solve our needs.  What we really need is a Lil Jordan or Kwame Cavil or some other type dude that can catch a ton of balls, move the chains and keep drives going on when we need 7-10 yards.  X has plenty of big play ability but he's small and slight and you don't want him trying to make a living as a possession/move the chains kind of guy. Thompson doesn't help us there.  Carl's cousin could be that guy if his hands weren't subpar and if he could play for more than 3 games in a row without gimping himself.

We solved a whole bunch of problems (probably) with this class.  We just didn't really do anything to solve our gaping hole at receiver (or LB, or TE). The hope at TE, obviously, is that the guys we got last year will be dudes (TE isn't really a position that is known for true freshmen showing out) and start showing out next year, but we still are lacking that other dude at WR.  Hopefully it happens in the portal.  Mim has been my hope since Riley left.  Not super likely, but that would be awesome.

His first couple of years were injuries....nothing related to talent.

I am very curious how we address WR in the portal now. Seems like we nailed every other position group except that one. I wonder if Coleman's keycard works this morning.

Yes. It's a 4A private school. Or were you under the impression that all of the private schools in Texas were in the same classification?

I would think he qualifies as an "example of small receivers who played small school competition who have gone on to ball out / ball out early on big stage?" .
