I don't really care for Once Upon a Time in America but I've seen the other 2 plenty of times tho the forgotten one For a Few Dollars more only a few times. While Leone was a master cinematographer and a brilliant use of music the acting, narrative and pacing of his films is sloppy at best and that's not even accounting for the ridiculous voice over work. Leone gets way too much credit for "revitalizing" the western

Yeah, I’m essentially in this boat as well. Clint’s Man With No Name character is iconic in cinema and there are some other great performances like Henry Fonda, Lee Van Cleef, Bronson, and Eli Wallach. There are some great individual scenes and scores that I still listen to periodically, but Leone’s Spaghetti Westerns are all about 45-60 minutes longer than they need to be and have a lot real slow patches in them. They are all worth seeing but just not real high on my list.

OK I was out after I thought I won the thread by being crowned Dumbledore on the Harry Potter test but they keep pulling me back in...

I think it was mentioned a couple of times but the answer is The Wild Bunch and nothing else comes close.

I spent way too much of my young life sitting in front of the TV watching old movies. And i didnt get to " once upon a time in the west" till late. And i remember the most jarring thing about the movie was Fonda playing the heavy.

I loved the movie. Beautifully shot. Yes, too long and slow at places, but a great watch altogether.

But Fonda playing the bad guy and so well really made the movie for me.

Fuck that. I’m going BoysTown. You can go into any canyon you’d like. I’ll be watching, doing Scarface lines and getting a blowjob from a 55y/o Mexican hooker who can slice bananas with her cooter.

Ah yes.. Maria. Great gal and hell of a good cook too.

I did a google search and that Mexican hookers talents are nowhere to be found. I guess some things in life just have to be experienced in person.

This reminds me that Pale Rider hasn’t been mentioned and that that is a shame.

Not as good as Shane, which it is essentially a remake of.  It's not at all bad, but not one of CE's best.

At risk of conjuring up a certain poster I'd rather not, let me just say that Quigley Down Under was great. Of course, anything set in Australia is arguably so far western it's actually eastern. Cue another geography derailment.

In a different vein, I had remembered Young Guns being great when I watched it as a kid. Watched it again at some point over the last 2 years and it’s…not.

Early on in Covid, when the kids were home from school full time, we watched Young guns and it was awful. Same with the original Red Dawn, although it was a bit better than young guns.

When was the last time you watched it? It was hands down my favorite movie as a kid, it didn’t hold up when I watched it recently. If you haven’t watched it recently then I suggest you don’t, I wish it was still as good in my head as I thought it once was.

I was gonna put Terence Hill in a while back. They Call Me Nobody is almost as good as The three Stooges with Curly:

Yeah. Sucks Acuna ain't what it once was. Grew up there as a youngerd. Been in the lower valley for the last 15 or so years. Reynosa, Progresso, Matamoros. Funny enough, ran into a couple of her primas. One had a prosthetic leg that was great for leverage and storage. Bought a nice Nacho Libre tricycle off the other.

Watched it with my son a few years ago.  We then watched the remake. The remake sucked….the original with Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C Thomas Howell. Jennifer Grey, and one of my all time favorite Texas actors, Powers Booth….was fucking money.

Agree 100% on the remake, was absolutely trash. Also could have been made worse watching the original by having kids asking irrelevant questions about what was happening and why. Maybe I need to give it another watch sans kids.

talk about a rollercoaster of a book. It's hours upon hours of "can't keep my eyes open" followed by a few chapters of "I can't put it down" that's just enough to keep you coming back for more.

So tell me where that starts because I’ve picked it up several times but dont think I ever finished. And I do feel ashamed at that.

Most of these have been mentioned, but to reiterate their excellence and put in my two cents (no particular order, apart from when they popped into my head):

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence

For a Few Dollars More

Hateful Eight (Extended Version is so much better than the regular)

Little Big Man

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Dead Man

The Sons of Katie Elder

ALSO:  Haven’t seen The Outlaw Josey Wales mentioned.  What?  (I may have missed it, in which case I apologize.)

Appendix:   There was an old western called “Last of the Comanches” that I remember watching as a kid that involved a stagecoach being stranded with a cavalry escort in an abandoned fort and defending themselves against a horde of native enemies.  It wasn’t good but the nostalgia factor is high.  Haven’t found it to stream yet.

Had a little crush on Sydney Penny for a few weeks when I was a lad because of that movie.

I loved it as a kid, but in hindsight, Emilio Esteves doesn’t exactly scream hardened weathered rider on the range. Dirty Steve and Lou Diamond Phillips still fuck though.

OK - apologize for the recruiting content/threadjack.  Aggy just hired Durkin to be their DC.  I get NIL/bagman/etc. controls, but how is it not easy to recruit against a guy who basically got fired for abusing players?
1.Because kids are dumb, 2. anything that happened more than 4 years ago may as well have happened in the cretaceous age, 3. aggy will endlessly pump up Durkin to be the greatest defensive mastermind of the 21st century. 4. See #1
