Gerry Hamilton: Bryan Carrington expected to join USC staff

  Quote

Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington is expected to take a job at USC. Carrington would like to make a transition to on the field coaching in the future, and USC has a plan in place for him to work as a quality control analyst on the offensive side of the ball, learning under Trojans running backs coach Mike Jinks.

Yeah, Bill’s completely misstating the situation. USC had the #8 class in the country and landed 4 of the top 10 in-state. They’re hiring Carrington because he’s a good recruiter, not because they’re abandoning CA to focus on recruiting Texas.
It was hyperbole on abandoning CA, but vouch for Helton's popularity in state at your peril.

They were very, very close to a disastrous season in a very weak p12. They leveraged that and no HS football into a respectable class this year, but that doesn't make it a trend.

If a couple of those bounces don't go their way, Helton's seat is hotter than Tom Herman's last December and I suspect the recruiting would've trended accordingly.

We'll learn a lot based on whether Helton can keep pulling rabbits out of his hat this year or not. I've seen enough from him to believe he'll revert to his mean of being a sub-Herman level coach, complete with a bunch of Herman's assistants now. I don't believe the 21 season or 22 class will be kind to SC.

Gbenda really came on late in the season, and Tillman looked like a player before his injuries etc. Hullaby can also be an impact guy there but will need time.

Marshall Malchow started out as a GA at Bama before getting hired by Petersen heading to UW as an asst Director of Player personnel.  He then was hired to the main job at UGA the last few years and now aTm just stole him in January.  I'd say he fits the bill.  Maybe coach Pete has a connection.  Make those peasants squirm and show some interest.  Its not like he's settled in.  Also why would aTm's last guy leave to Baylor?  Just a thought.

Steve Wiltfong: Jaydon Blue gives Texas another elite running back prospect

  Quote

When talking about the top running back in the 2022 class, the first name that comes to mind for me is Houston (Texas) Klein Cain standout Jaydon Blue. The 5-foot-11 1/2, 205-pound newly-minted Texas commit is one of the top at the position regardless of grade. I'm not sure there is many in the 2021 class I’d take over him right now, putting him in a similar class with five-stars from that haul in TreVeyon Henderson and Donovan Edwards. “He’s Reggie Bush 2.0,” said Fast Houston founder Ro Simon who coaches Blue on the 7-on-7 circuit.

Blue’s ability to cut and turn on the after jets makes him different. He’s also physical between the tackles with excellent balance and easy after contact ability, and he erases angles with that 10.7 speed in the 100m dash. Fast, powerful and explosive, Blue has all the traits to come in as a true freshman and ultimately push Bijan Robinson who would be a junior that fall. “I saw it in eighth grade when he joined the program,” Simon said. “When I put him at wide out his freshman year he was running routes as good as any wide receiver, then I watched his freshman tape and he looked exceptionally well at running back.”

Blue has all the intangibles as well. “He has great charisma,” Simon said. “He’s a leader. He checks all the boxes off the field first and foremost. He’s a great teammate. Makes his teammates better. He’s more of a guy that does his talking on the field and his actions speak louder than his words.” Blue rushed for 2,155 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. He committed to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns earlier this week over the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Stanford and Texas A&M.

“I like a lot of things about Texas!” Blue said. “Good environment, great coaches, fans and a lot of other things. They have been the school that have been in touch with me the most since they have offered. I also have a good relationship with a lot of their coaching staff and with Coach Sark moving in I have already built that relationship up and he is a great coach! Texas is a school that I knew would be a good fit for me since they offered and they are just that.”

Blue believes Sarkisian will maximize his potential in Austin. “I think it will be good for me, I am very smart and I catch on fast so it will be fun to see how it goes,” Blue said. “The thing I love about Coach Sark is that he is a great person. He knows how to put running backs and a guy like me in the right position to be successful and to showcase more than just running the ball and that’s what I like most because I can also catch and run routes like a receiver even better so that is a big boost in my game.”

Blue was a big boost to a Texas recruiting class that ranks No. 10 early in the 2022 cycle. “He’s going to bring a whole lot of recruits with him,” Simon said. “He has a big presence in the 2022 class.”

Had a coaching buddy in that district tell me it's only a matter of time before he gets a 5th. Best RB in the country in a very tough Houston area district.

You aren't kidding about the Koolaid, their predictions would give us a starting class of:

QB: Ewers or Klubnik

RB: Blue/Miller

WR: Winfield/Coleman/Stewart/Thompson

TE: Llewellyn

OL: Campbell/Robertson

DT: Ross

LB: Johnson

DB: Guilbeau/Brooks/Harris/Hullaby/Anderson/Kerr

Would have to fill in the OL and front 7 from there but yeah...that would work. Most surprising to me is Gerry picking Anderson to Texas, I thought he was a threat to drop to aggy at any moment.

Anderson is weird. He's probably an aggy silent right now.

You follow these boards enough to know better about Thompson.

IT should be embarrassed to publish this. They always do go heaviest on the sunshine a year out. Can’t wait for pissy Nahlin for the rest of the year as his ridiculous predictions don’t hit.

Well, you are known for your unbiased, level-headed evals around here, so I guess I’ll have to go with you on this one.

With Ewers it would be 276.17 points with 18 commits and 2 of them unranked. Any news on which edge rushers (I guess OLBs in PK's scheme) they're targeting?

I am not saying that wasn't positive, but that is not Perroni-esque. That seems like they are saying everyone that we were in front for this last time last year, we are in front again. Too many 3rd place finishes and can't predict for it to be all sunshine.

Even with Conyers transferring Roach said he wasn't yet ready to predict Thompson here/ put in a CB as recently as last weekend

Roach hasn't decided to put in a CB for Vince Young just yet. I don't think anyone is ready to say Thompson to Texas is done, at all, instead simply that Thompson is not a lock to OU and that Texas has clearly taken the lead.

This is the biggest question right now. We don’t seem to be in a good spot for any of the elite in-state edge rushers, so we’ll need to go out of state. We need edge rushers badly and can’t afford to settle this year.

The bad news is that it also looks like a trash year at the position in California. And a trash year for talent period in AZ.

The good news is that with Covid nixing various seasons and camps there's a chance some guys will appear on the scene and make huge jumps out of nowhere. We're going to need to be ready to pounce on those motherfuckers fast, because it looks like shit. Fortunately, we have a fully staffed and prepped recruiting department up and running thanks to the excellent work of Christine Del Conte.

Anderson looks like the guy that suddenly started trending Texas. Go look at how they referenced his decommit at the time and what they just published about him. I'm going off of memory from this thread, but if I'm right, it's night and day.
