Kevin Coleman visiting next weekend along with Skinner.

Makes sense. FSU was the leader in the clubhouse for Coleman, but at this point he’s gotta know that coaching staff won’t be there when he would get there.

I thought Texas had cooled on Coleman and is all in on Brenen Thompson.

I don’t know why this would be an either/or situation. We only have 1 WR committed and he’s been waffling.

Gerry Hamilton: Texas Longhorns football 10 most wanted recruits

Quote

The Texas Longhorns beat up Rice 58-0 with 5-star Harold Perkins and 4-star Brenen Thompson in the stands. Perkins, the No. 8 ranked prospect in the 2022 class, is one of the most coveted prospects on the board for the Texas staff. And Thompson has the speed and playmaking the staff desperately needs in numbers. Inside Texas takes a look at the 10 most wanted recruits yet to commit.

Texas 10 most wanted recruits

Arch Manning, QB, New Orleans Isidore Newman
On300 ranking: No. 1 in 2023

Manning made June visits to Clemson, Texas, Alabama and Georgia. And July one-day trips to Ole Miss and LSU. The Mannings are in Athens this weekend, and will be at Alabama Oct. 2 for the Ole Miss game. Texas will host the Mannings Oct. 16, Ole Miss on Oct. 23 and Clemson on Oct. 30.

Evan Stewart, WR, Frisco (Texas) Liberty
On300 ranking: No. 5

The 5-star will make an official visit to Alabama for the November 6 beat down of LSU. The Tigers could also receive an official visit. Florida and Texas have already received official visits. The Gators have a close friendship with On300 quarterback Nick Evers and early opportunity in their favor. Texas has early opportunity, an inviting offensive scheme and brand opportunities in the Longhorns favor.

Devon Campbell, IOL, Arlington (Texas) Bowie
On300 ranking: No. 18

Campbell has been impressed with Oklahoma offensive line coach bill Bedenbaugh. He made an unofficial visit to Norman last weekend, and an official in June. Texas will receive the final official visit, as of today. Alabama will receive an official October 2, and LSU is also expected to host Campbell.

Denver Harris, CB, Houston North Shore
On300 ranking: No. 12

Harris is a “maybe” to commit in September. Alabama continues to be the leader over Texas with LSU still fighting. Texas A&M also stays in touch, but isn’t expected to be there in the end.

Harold Perkins, LB/hybrid, Cypress (Texas) Cy Park
On300 ranking: No. 8

Perkins made an unofficial visit to Texas on Saturday. The elite athlete likes the idea of being in Austin for his college experience. Texas A&M has felt very confident since June. LSU will be in it until the end. Perkins is scheduled to make an official visit to Florida next weekend. Alabama is also in the mix.

Neto Umeozulu, OT/IOL, Allen (Texas)
On300 ranking: No. 58

Umeozulu told IT Thursday night that Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama and Oklahoma are on him the hardest. USC was considered a player, but now there is uncertainty. Texas is in good position to receive an official visit.

Kam Dewberry, IOL/OT, Humble (Texas) Atascocita
On300 ranking: No. 68

Dewberry made his official visit to Oklahoma this weekend. He will make a final official visit to either Texas or Alabama. The four-star lineman will take in games at Texas and Texas A&M (Alabama game) during the season.

Earnest Greene, IOL, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
On300 ranking: No. 133

Greene is scheduled to be back in Austin on October 16, this time for an official visit. Green has made trips to Ohio State and Georgia the last two weekends. The USC next head coaching hire could also factor into this recruitment.

Brenen Thompson, WR, Spearman (Texas)
On300 ranking: No. 24

Thompson is finishing up his official visit to Texas today. He has met with the football and track staffs. The immediate family preferred Texas heading into the visit.

Jaleel Skinner, TE, Greer (S.C.) IMG Academy
On300 ranking: No. 17

Texas is in the final five along with Alabama, Florida State, Clemson and Miami. The big question with Skinner’s recruitment is now centering around if he’s a take for Alabama. If he is, it could change the recruitment. Jeff Banks is doing a terrific job of making Skinner feel wanted in Austin.

* Also considered are No. 87 Shazz Preston (Saint James, La.), No. 22 Quency Wiggins (Baton Rouge Madison Prep) and No. 41 Jacoby Mathews (Ponchatoula, La.) Texas is still recruiting committed prospects. That list includes No. 26 Kelvin Banks, No. 29 Jordan Hudson and No. 20 Bryce Anderson.

Knowing Gerry's M.O., sounds like Perkins is a silent commit to A&M

I think Perkins likes Sark and likes Austin. Aggy thinks he's a lock and he may have already made a commitment video for them. Things can change in a hurry with these 5 star kids. Seemingly out of "nowhere".

Perkins is a strange cat and not in a bad way.  Seems like he could end up anywhere and have all the $9.95ers thrown off.  If he was a silent to aggy Wiltfong would already have a CB pick for him to them.  His only picks to aggy are from, surprise surprise, Perroni and Hattersley.

Yes.

Did he ever rule out Sebastion Cheeks? UNC defense is an absolute goddamn mess and at the same time there is a clear chance to get significant playing time with us as a FR at LB. Makes more sense to me than Anderson or someone else already wanting to flip just based on what we've seen so far.

Yea I think he's enjoying the process. Sounds like he's leaving every visit he goes on with very positive feelings about the school. He has openly recruited for aggy in the past though. Thats what makes me think they still have the edge. Can change on a dime though.

Gerry:

Texas did Very well with Brenen Thompson (Spearman High) over the weekend according to a source. A highlight was spending time with Jordan Shipley. Those guys connect on fishing. Had a good conversation about the outdoor life around Austin. The source said the Texas football and T&F staff are on the same page, and did a quality job with Thompson. The football staff talked about getting guys like Xavier Worthy and Thompson on the field at the same time, and how difficult that would be to defend.

Thompson plans to attend the Alabama at Texas A&M game October 9. It will be Thompson's first game day at Texas A&M.

If Texas has an advantage, it could be the number of targets Thompson would receive at Texas per the source.

This is not a recruitment that will do into December, as IT has previously reported.

Harold Perkins had a terrific experience at Texas. He went with his mom, uncle and teammate at Cy Park. Perkins will be at Florida next weekend, Texas A&M for the Alabama game, and will also make visits to LSU and likely Alabama. Long ways to go in this recruitment. First week of January is expected to be when a decision is announced.

Texas is doing well with 5-star IOL Devon Campbell (Arlington Bowie). The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder has been on campus in Austin more than any other university. Oklahoma has done a solid job in this recruitment, but the Longhorns began as the favorite and the staff has impressed Campbell and those close to him. Alabama will receive an official visit Oct. 2, LSU is likely to receive one as well. Texas would love to get Campbell in the weekend of October 16 for his official visit.

Brennan has to know he has a good shot once he heals his foot injury, soon as he steps on campus for immediate playing time

I know it was discussed, but what was his foot injury and is it something to be concerned about long term?  Think I remember it being mentioned he still plans to run track in the spring.

Fracture with the talus bone. He is sitting out rest of football to prepare for track where his goal is to run a 10.18
