Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

IIRC, we still have the Minnesota lineman who is was waiting to commit to us. I think the staff was fishing for bigger prospects so who knows.

At this rate take them all and the numbers will sort themselves out.

Remember the class with “the Berlin Wall” at Florida?  How did those guys end up doing?

He’s a guard.

Will schools still feel obligated to give full rides to student athletes making more than enough to pay their own way?

Yes. That’s how scholarships work. Quinn Ewers and Ehlinger are from comfortable families. In your mind they’re not scholarship players?

The Texas Longhorns enter Sunday with the No. 6 ranked class in the On3 Consensus team ranking after the commitment of 5-star OT Kelvin Banks (Humble, Texas/Summer Creek).

The class is certainly now one with the potential to finish in the top 5, and possibly as high as third.

The Longhorns remain in the mix for four more On3 Consensus 5-star prospects, and at least 10 4-stars.

This morning, it’s time for another game of yes, maybe or no. No, in this case is long shot.

Yes

Quinn Ewers, QB, Southlake (Texas) Carroll

On3 Consensus: No. 1 in the 2021 class

A commitment wouldn’t count toward the 2022 recruiting class, but the Ohio State transfer

Devon Campbell, IOL, Arlington (Texas) Bowie

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 10

The staff that puts together the Under Armour All-America Game is no longer expecting Campbell to announce during the game January 2. Texas is in a solid position here over USC and Alabama.

Denver Harris, CB, Houston (Texas) North Shore

On3 Consensus ranking: No 16

Today will be big if Harris shows up on a campus. There has been confidence on the side of Texas, and Texas A&M. Either team can win out here. Mom is certainly the champion of this recruitment with the older brother a key voice for Denver.

Malik Agbo, IOL, Federal Way (Wash.) Todd Beamer

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 355

The On3 Consensus 4-str is very much a lean to the Longhorns. He is scheduled to announce December 15.

Cameron Williams, OT, Duncanville (Texas)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 394

The On3 Consensus 4-star was on FaceTime with Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood in the locker room following Duncanville’s win over Southlake Carroll according to a source at Duncanville. That’s the spot the teams in contention wish they were in. IT expects Williams to sign with the school of his choice December 15, as of today.

Savion Red, RB/WR, Grand Prairie (Texas)

On3 Consensus ranking: 3-star

This is all about the numbers game. I believe he will end up in the class, as of today. Red is certainly talented enough to play at Texas. Physical with good feet. Tough competitor. The 7v7 team he plays on includes stud junior linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. (Denton, Texas/Ryan) and 2023 commit Jamel Johnson(Arlington, Texas/Seguin). Ohio State portal defensive back Ryan Watts (Little Elm, Texas) was also part of that group in high school.

Maybe

Harold Perkins, LB, Cypress (Texas) Cy Park

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 3

Perkins is scheduled to announce during the Under Armour All-America Game January 2. And doesn’t plan to sign until February. This battle between Texas A&M, Texas and LSU has a long ways to go in the recruiting world.

Jacoby Mathews, S, Ponchatoula (La.)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 32

Texas has quietly hung around here. Mathews has definitely cooled on Texas A&M in the last two weeks. He couldn’t make an official to Alabama this weekend due to playing in the state championship game. LSU has also ways been the pick if all things are equal. Florida and Georgia are also lurking. Mathews is scheduled to announce January 2 during the Under Armour All-America Game.

Terrance Brooks, CB, Little Elm (Texas)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 41

Ohio State is battling to keep the On300 5-star in the fold with Texas making a strong push. Texas A&M also tried to make a late push with an in-home, but Mike Elko left two days after and that blew up the Aggies chances.

Bryce Anderson, S/N, Beaumont (Texas) West Brook

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 52

The Texas A&M commit definitely hit the pause button with the Mike Elko news. As Elko also served as the safeties coach. Anderson and Jimbo Fisher have a terrific relationship. We’ll see if Texas can overcome that. IT can say that Steve Sarkisian spoke with the Anderson circle Saturday morning.

Earnest Greene, IOL, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 59

This would normally be a no for me, and probably should be. Alabama is considered the favorite, but Texas has done enough to be in the conversation after a Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood in-home. Ohio State and Georgia are also in it.

Kam Dewberry, IOL, Humble (Texas) Atascocita

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 63

When a player is down to two schools, it’s a maybe. Texas A&M has felt confident since Jimbo Fisher’s in-home two weeks ago.

Larry Turner-Gooden, S, Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 243

Could LTG potentially get caught in numbers game? Maybe, but Sarkisian loves to recruit the state of California.

Terrance Gibbs, RB, Winter Park (Fla.)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 401

This one will come down to how comfortable the Texas staff is that Gibbs can continue to recover, and inch closer to being close to the player he was prior to a serious knee injury. That would take time, however.

Xavion Brice, CB, Arlington (Texas) Seguin

On300 ranking: No. 254

The Oklahoma verbal will sign with either the Sooners or Texas Longhorns December 15. Texas Tech is the third team on the list of finalist. Brice made an official visit to Texas this weekend.

No, or long shot

Evan Stewart, WR, Frisco (Texas) Liberty

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 4

Stewart is back at College Station this weekend. This would have to be one of those magical signing day flips. But you recruit through the whistle if you are Texas.

Shazz Preston, WR, Saint James (La.)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 38

Alabama is all over Preston. Texas has continued to try to close the gap with an in-home by Steve Sarkisian and staff two weeks ago. Where does LSU fit? That’s the big question.

Kendrick Law, S/ATH, Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 85

Texas tried to get Law back for a second weekend in a row. Law is on an official visit to LSU this weekend. Confidence is growing on the Alabama side. Florida State remains in the fight.

Neto Umeozulu, OT/IOL, Allen (Texas)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 95

Neto is in Norman this weekend. Kyle Flood was by Allen Thursday. Umeozulu visited Baylor Wednesday. He has also made officials to Alabama and USC. What does it all mean? Heck if I know on this one.

Armani Winfield, WR, Lewisville (Texas)

On3 Consensus ranking: No. 223

Decommit remorse is getting strong with this one. With that said Michigan State and Baylor have made him feel like a priority for weeks.

I could see a program needing a spot for a player and a current player, with a large nli money deal, sacrificing his scholly. Sort of the college version of the nfl pay cut to give the team room to sign a key free agent.

Banks, Hutson, Robertson are committed

Campbell, Williams, Agbo, we currently lead for.

And we’d still take one of Dewberry or Greene if they wanted to come. But at this point they are just luxury takes. What a crazy turnaround.

Kelvin Banks is starting the second his ass is on campus.

we’re going to sign a couple of portal OL.

It’s really the staff doesn’t know because Stewart is a “out of the blue” type. With Ewers in They think we can get him but they also believe he’ll stay with A&M .
They really just don’t know

I have no idea what Andre Coleman does well for us. WR was one of our worst position groups on the field and now it’s our worst position group in recruiting.

I was just going to rant on this. We have a top flight QB coming after a freshman wr smashed all of our records and Coleman is having trouble closing JAGs. WR should have been begging to play here but instead we have to hope Stewart portals in 12 months to salvage the clas.

I whole heartedly believe we can get Bryce. He’s just like Banks grew up a longhorn fan and always wanted to play for UT. With Gilbeaux already in and if we can pull Harris, with the coaching debacle I think we get Bryce. Remember he was a strong lean here for awhile and Fisher threw everything he had at him and the main reason was stability. With that now in question this is as a good of a time if any to get him back in the boat

I agree it’s going to be fine I’m just saying anyone that thinks we’re starting all freshman and kicking ass is dumb. Banks might be the only one but any school that is killing teams have a veteran line and then maybe one super stud freshman. I like our class but we also need a quick turnaround through a couple of

portal OL.

These are the very best OL prospects in the country, they can play.  We probably do need 1 veteran via the portal.  But if Banks-Angilau-Majors-Campbell-Karic/Jones is our starting OL to open next season we will likely be a LOT better than we were this season.

We're looking at the Wisconsin center. Also, we're probably going to start a portal OT. Banks-Angilou-portal-Conner/Campbell-portal IMO.
