DCTF released their mock district realignments for next year.   Of course this is just them spitballing.   Some interesting proposals.

I saw they had Cuero, Wimberley and Navarro in the same district.

It's paywalled.  Can you provide please?

would love it if this ( or similar) scenario happens for Abernathy in Dist 3.  I hate the 3 South Plains teams mixed with 3 Permian Basin teams.  So stupid...

Damn, the Austin LBJ head coach lost his son in a pflugervillle shooting a few days before their most recent playoff win. @shadow_operative wtf is going on with your hood.

damn, Windermere. that's where i grew up. it's the hood now (as far as greater Austin metro goes), at least in certain portions of it. Windermere Drive (where this happened) and Fitchburg Circle are probably the two least safe streets in the city. old, dilapidated duplexes, tiny ones at that. i still drive through there regularly. sucks to see what it's become. that's a real shame that that kid lost his life out here like that.

I count 14 district rematches this week!  Wow!  Huge pet peeve – it really pisses me off that people call these the “state quarterfinals” instead of the “regional finals.”  Winning your region is a big deal;  “state quarterfinals” sounds like just another round.

CLASS 6A DIVISION I

Allen (11-2) vs Southlake Carroll (13-0), 2 p.m. Saturday at Denton’s Apogee Stadium
SLC hasn’t had a competitive game since 9/2 and have outscored their last two playoff opponents 94-7.  Allen has recovered from surprising regular-season losses to Atascocita and Prosper, and seems to be peaking now (or maybe last week in their 59-21 win over Trinity).  I’ll take SLC.

Duncanville (11-1) vs DeSoto (11-2), 7 p.m. Saturday at Frisco's Ford Center
Damn, this is DFW royalty matchup weekend.  Duncanville seems to be better than last season, largely because of a defense that has only allowed 136 points all year.  The Panthers beat the Eagles 42-21 in district on 9/17 and don’t give me that bullshit about how hard it is to beat a team twice. Duncanville has beaten Desoto three in a row, including this game last season.

Galena Park North Shore (12-1) vs Humble Atascocita (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Pasadena’s Veterans Memorial Stadium
Another district rematch, as NS beat the Eagles 31-21 on 10/29.  NS nearly blew a 26-0 lead last week against Tompkins, but have I mentioned that I hate that hard-to-beat-a-team twice thing?

SA Northside Brennan (13-0) vs Lake Travis (11-2), 2 p.m. Saturday at Dripping Springs’ Tiger Stadium
LT looks ripe to go down, but I can’t buy into Brennan being the team to get it done, given the dogshit schedule they’ve played.  Yeah, they ripped Bowie a new one, but so did LT earlier in the season.

CLASS 6A DIVISION II

Denton Guyer (12-1) vs Prosper (9-4), 1 p.m. Saturday at Allen's Eagle Stadium
Here’s another district rematch; Guyer won the first game 35-7.  No reason to expect anything different.

Cypress Bridgeland (11-2) vs. Tomball (10-3), 2 p.m. Saturday at Tomball ISD Stadium
Tomball was one of the most impressive teams I saw last weekend, whipping a really good Heath team by physically dominating them.  Bridgeland’s D played their game of the year by holding Cedar Hill under 100 yards of offense, but I’ll take Tomball to pull an upset.

Katy (13-0) vs Humble Summer Creek (10-3), 1 p.m. Saturday at Houston’s Rice Stadium
Summer Creek ran up 62 points last week, but they’ve lost to every powerhouse they’ve played (NS, King, and Atascocita) and well, Katy’s next.

Austin Vandegrift (12-1) vs Austin Westlake (13-0), 2 p.m. Saturday at Austin’s DKR Memorial Stadium
Not gonna happen, in spite of TreatyOak's epic trolling.

CLASS 5A DIVISION I
Mansfield Summit (10-3) vs Colleyville Heritage (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at North Richland Hills’ Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex
Another district rematch, which CH won 35-34 the first time.  No reason to think this will be anything other than another tossup.

Denton Ryan (12-1) vs College Station (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Waco’s McLane Stadium
Two best 5A teams in the state.  Ryan won last year 52-21 in the playoffs, but CS is a much better team this season, and completely dominated a really good Lone Star team similar to Ryan two weeks ago.

Katy Paetow (12-1) vs Fort Bend Hightower (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Houston’s Rice Stadium
Paetow is so new that I’m not even sure how to pronounce it, but it’s another district rematch that Paetow won 55-7 the first time, so don’t expect anything different.

CC Flour Bluff (11-2) vs CC Veterans Memorial (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Corpus Christi’s Hornet Stadium
Yet another district rematch!  FB won the first 39-7, but after watching their shitshow of a victory last week over G-P, I’m expecting Vets to turn the tables.

CLASS 5A DIVISION II

WF Rider (12-1) vs Lubbock Cooper (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Abilene’s Anthony Field
Best rivalry in west Texas!  4 straight years that these district rivals have met in this game.  Roho is 5-2 against LC in the last 4 years, but both losses are in the playoffs.  Cooper won the first game this year 20-12, and they have the better defense, so I’ll take them again.

Dallas South Oak Cliff (11-1) vs Lucas Lovejoy (12-1), 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Frisco’s Ford Center
Who expected this? You? LIAR. SOC’s only loss was Duncanville’s closest game of the season, so they’re for real.  Lovejoy was in this game last season, losing a heartbreaker to Aledo.  Something tells me that SOC’s heads are going to be stuck in last week and Lovejoy is really going to be ready for this one, so I’ll take the Leopards in an upset.

Texarkana Texas (12-0) vs Crosby (11-2), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lufkin’s Martin Stadium
Crosby has won 11 in a row and reached the state title game last season. I think Texarkana’s D will be good enough to keep Crosby from going nuts, so I like the Tigers here.

Liberty Hill (11-2) vs SA Alamo Heights (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at San Marcos’ Bobcat Stadium
LH is not as talented as they were last year, but that Slot-T offense can sneak up on opponents. The Mules have a stout defense, but not good enough in this one.

CLASS 4A DIVISION I
Springtown (10-3) vs Wichita Falls Hirschi (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Allen’s Eagle Stadium
Hey, district rematch!  Hirschi has won 11 in a row, won the first game 40-30, and seem to have gotten better every week.

Stephenville (13-0) vs Melissa (11-2), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bedford’s Pennington Field
Stephenville knocked off Argyle last week, but Melissa beat Argyle in district play.  The Cardinals have won 11 in a row and blitzed a La Vega team like you’re not used to seeing La Vega get blitzed last week.  Complete tossup in this one.

Tyler Chapel Hill (10-3) vs Little Cypress-Mauriceville (11-2), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cypress’ Cy-Fair FCU Stadium
Both teams pulled off upsets last week, with CH taking down Kilgore and LCM controlling El Campo’s previously-unstoppable offense.  CH finished 4th in their district and is led by freshmen at QB and RB.  I’ll take LCM just on experience and defense.

Austin LBJ (13-0) vs Fredericksburg (9-4), 3 p.m. Saturday at San Antonio’s Alamodome
This one is probably going to be uglier than the 40-14 score in the October matchup.

CLASS 4A DIVISION II

Aubrey (12-1) vs Celina (11-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Denton’s Apogee Stadium
Aubrey beat Celina last season for the first time in about 30 years. Celina spanked them 49-14 in their district game in October. I’d be shocked if Aubrey wins and surprised if it’s close.

Texarkana Pleasant Grove (8-5) vs Gilmer (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant’s Parker Field
PG’s last two victims came in a combined 22-1, but Gilmer is a whole different animal. The Buckeyes’ offense has rung up 71, 68, and 56 in the playoffs, and while their defense is kind of porous, it’s good enough with that offense to finally send PG home. Gilmer won the district matchup 55-14.

China Spring (13-0) vs West Orange-Stark (11-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Tomball’s Tomball ISD Stadium
Two damn good teams. China Spring outplayed previously-unbeatable Carthage last week, in a game that really was never in doubt.  WOS’s D shut down unbeaten Bellville’s powerful running game. Bellville’s O was pretty 1-dimensional; CS’s O isn’t, and that will be the difference.

Cuero (12-1) vs Geronimo Navarro (10-2), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bastrop’s Memorial Stadium
Cuero lost a non-district game to Navarro 29-27, but has gotten better every week since.  Navarro hasn’t been as good as past years, but they’re here. The flaw with most Wing/Slot-T teams is that they usually can’t pass if they fall behind, and they’re not good at defending the pass, and this applies doubly to the Panthers.  Cuero’s QB had his best game of the season last week, and he has an athletic 6’3” WR to throw to, so I expect them to have big games.

CLASS 3A DIVISION I

Whitesboro (9-4) vs Brock (13-0), 7 p.m. Thursday at Arlington’s Globe Life Field
Another district rematch, won by Brock 42-21 in October.  The Eagles hung a jaw-dropping 70 on defending champs Jim Ned last week and that’s all I need to know.  This won’t be close.

Mount Vernon (13-0) vs West (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Frisco’s Ford Center
MV clearly misses Art Briles.  Fuck you, Art!  West has had their best season in forever, but MV has scored at least 37 every game and their closest margin has been 20, so there’s no reason to pick against the Tigers.

Diboll (10-3) vs Lorena (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Bryan’s Green Stadium
I hopped on the Lorena bandwagon before they dismantled Columbus last week, and I’m not getting off now.  They lost the first two games of the year to Franklin and China Spring and have been unstoppable since.  The Lumberjacks are OK (seewhatIdidthere?), but they’re not beating Lorena.

Vanderbilt Industrial (11-2) vs Lago Vista (9-3), 7 p.m. Friday at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium
LV was a small disappointment in the regular season, but their win over Edna last week was impressive and I think they’ll have enough to take down the Cobras.

CLASS 3A DIVISION II
Abernathy (12-1) vs Lubbock Roosevelt (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Lubbock’s Jones Stadium
Hey, a district rematch!  Roosevelt held on for a 58-56 win in October, and seem to have gotten better since then.  Abernathy took out perennial region royalty Canadian last week, so they’re tough to bet against, but if I had to, I would.

Holliday (13-0) vs Gunter (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Justin’s Northwest ISD Stadium
Gunter beat Holliday in this game in 2018 & ’19.  Holliday needed OT to beat a good-not-great Bells team last week, while Gunter has scored 62 three games in a row.  Gunter big in this one.

Daingerfield (11-2) vs Waskom (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Nacogdoches’ Bryce Stadium
Waskom has scored 732 points this season and hung a 42-6 L on Newton last week.  Daingerfield is peaking at the right time, but I think they lose this in a shootout.

Franklin (13-0) vs Poth (11-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Pflugerville’s The Pfield
Congrats to Poth on getting this far, but this is a mismatch.  Franklin has scored 768 points and just steamrolls everyone with their Wing-T.

CLASS 2A DIVISION I

Cisco (11-2) vs Hawley (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium
Hawley has allowed only 80 points all season.  I wouldn’t bet against that.

Marlin (10-3) vs Crawford (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Belton’s Tiger Field
Marlin pulled an upset last week to make it here, and Crawford always has one of those steady teams that just seems impossible to beat.  Their D has allowed only 105 points, so that should be the biggest difference.

Timpson (11-0) vs Centerville (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Jacksonville’s Tomato Bowl
Timpson brought almost everyone back from a team that got embarrassed by Shiner in the state semis last year, and they look to be on a mission.  They’ll win this and get a rematch next week.

Shiner (13-0) vs Refugio (13-0), 7 p.m. Thursday at Victoria’s Memorial Stadium
You could have penciled in this matchup in September.  Both teams have just been destroying overmatched opponents week after week.  I’ll take the defending champs to prevail, as Refugio has a history of melting down when things don’t go their way, and having a freshman starting at QB can’t help if that starts to happen.

CLASS 2A DIVISION II

Wellington (9-3) vs Stratford (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Amarillo’s Bivins Stadium
Wellington has gone on a huge run to salvage what, for them, had been a disappointing season.  But at some point, you end up facing a team that’s just flat better, and that’s Stratford.

Windthorst (12-1) vs Albany (12-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Graham’s Newton Field
Windthorst is a great program, but Albany has allowed only 76 points all season and easily handled Windthorst’s district champ, Muenster, last week.  Denney Faith has had a lot of great teams at Albany, but this might be his best.

Mart (13-0) vs Chilton (11-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Hewitt’s Panther Stadium
District rematch! Mart’s closest game this season was 42-16 and they beat Chilton in October 56-6.  Should be similar.

Burton (5-8) vs Falls City (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Seguin’s Matador Stadium

Burton is 5-8 because they had to forfeit 7 games for using an ineligible player.  Their only on-field loss was 43-0 to Shiner.  FC’s only loss was 17-14 to 3A Poth.  They have a crushing D that probably wins this game for them.

Shiner with a pick 6 on Refugio’s first drive.

massive crowd. Line of cars is miles long. People are just parking wherever and walking to the fence. VPD sending more cops to help people park in a near by field.

my dad and his buddies got there 5:30 and the stadium was 60% full
